Worked perfectly, right out of the box.
Trying to find a CAC reader that works with a minimum of fuss turned out to be harder than I thought. I tried various readers (including theĀ Rocketek Smart Card Reader , which didn't work at all) before coming across the SGT111. Plug in the SGT, Windows installs the right drivers and, boom, you're on your way. I didn't have to install any 3rd party software or play around with Windows Cardspace. In literally seconds I was able to access secure sites, OWA, and anything I had a need to. I highly recommend the SGT111.

Bought this Smart Card Reader to Telework from Home during this COVID-19 crises, it didn't work!?
This smart card reader is advertised to work with practically any or all smart card security identification software and Network security authentication server process... Hence, this particular card reader says that is FIPS 201 and TAA compliant, however it would not work with my home teleworking authorized USAF- Government VPN security networking services? It would seem that this product is not universally network security complaint with all current US Government IT networking authorization\security services...

Plugged it in and it's working perfectly, so easy.
I plugged this into my computer, booted up, and was able to use it with no other actions save for inserting my card. The red light comes on to tell me it's recognized by my computer, and it comes on again when the card is reading. I work for the federal government and was recently informed that I would have to use a card reader in order to telework, so I ordered this from Amazon on Wednesday, received it on Thursday, and teleworked on Friday. No installation required, and no additional software. I have Windows 8, so I didn't even need to download Activ Client. If everything in life were this easy, I can't imagine how much less stress there would be.

Got if fast, cheap and it worked flawlessly with no effort - that's a perfect trilogy.
I ordered this late on a Friday after my previous card reader failed and it arrived in my mailbox about 15 hours later....pretty amazing and a good start. The card reader worked as described right out of the box by simply plugging in the USB and inserting my smart card. It literally took me more time to get the package open that it did to get this to work. That is as simple as possible. The product was also quite inexpensive - about half the price of my previous card reader - so I was concerned about quality and read several reviews before ordering. While most people indicated satisfaction, several claimed it stopped working relatively quickly. I've only had mine for a few days so time will tell but at less than $15, I'm just going to buy two and keep a spare. In the meantime, I'm extremely pleased with this choice,I used this to connect to the VA VPN using a VA issued PIV CAC card and had no problem connecting.

Only Partially Works
Just looking for a new smart card reader to replace the failing one on my GFE furnished Panasonic Toughbook. Fortunately, I have multiple laptops and a working USB Smart Card Reader (IOGear GSR 203) . Although this reader authenticates properly with the stored PIN, and will list stored certificates on the card, it will not properly link a stored certificate to the card's PIN when trying to login my Agency's secured network via a web browser. The IOGear GSR 203 works fine, and even my 8 year old Dell E6400 laptop works fine - so this is not new technology.

Great CAC reader for your DOD ID card
Item does what it says it supposed to do. It was easy to plug in and my Dell windows 8.1 machine recognized it and loaded the drivers. As you know you need to download the rest of the software from your military branch website to make it work. I have the newer version (V2) ID and it read it just fine and I can access what I need online with no issues. The cord is the right length and the black finish matches my stuff on my desk. When I inserted the card it doesn't seem to scratch the card it fit perfectly inside the reader. I'm very happy with this card reader.Update June 2015: Had it for 7 months now and still working great no problems. Still say this is the best one out there to buy.

Great Product
Great product ! I work for the Federal Government and we just switched over to PIV access to read info at home. TheGreat product ! Worked right out of the box. The hardest part of the whole process was plugging it into the USB port. I would highly recommend this product and this seller.
