After years of using the MS Press ‘Inside Out’ series, and the Sams ‘Unleashed’ series, I had to give up on them after they shrank by nearly half (from around 1300 pages to about 800). This left them so superficial that they became useless. (I note that the 2017 edition of Sams Server 2016 book is up to 1500 pages again. Maybe it’s better…)I was wary of buying this IT Pro Library edition because it’s Kindle only, and expensive. But I needed a decent book on Windows Server 2016 so I had to get this one. I’m very glad I did: it’s excellent, and digital copy is much quicker to search. Also, the digital format allows for more content for any given cost. Thus, you get 2100 pages here.Stanek’s writing style is engaging enough for such a technical tome. He includes a huge amount of information and presents it smoothly and logically. I have used it extensively over the last couple of years and would not have wanted to try and managed without it. Still, I would have paid extra for an even more detailed publication.It’s not the font of all server knowledge, but it’s as practically close as you can get for under sixty quid. It’s well laid out, easy to search and (thankfully!) devoid of the typical Kindle typos and shoddy editing that drives me nuts. This is top-drawer: highly recommended.
