In short, simply blown away!
This review is after about 3 months of usage. In short, simply blown away! This is by far the best 'thing' I've ever slept on. From floors to air pads, dorm room bunks, blow-up mattresses, dingy motels, and 5-star hotels - you name it, I've slept on (or in) it. In detail, I'm 6'5", 180lbs and went with the queen 8" mattress for me and the full 4" mattress for my daughter. I slept on a luxury queen pillow top mattress and box spring for the last 6 years. We moved into a new place and I decided to use these mattresses temporarily while I took the time to test out my next long term set. On morning number one, for both my daughter and I, we couldn't stop talking about how insanely comfortable the mattresses were. Here are some factors that coincide with my experience. With my Garmond health monitor, I could see a distinct positive difference in my deep sleep cycle between the previous mattress and this Zinus Sleep Master. I used to fall asleep with books, magazines, remote control on the bed next to me and wake up with them on the floor. Now, they stay right where I left them. I may roll over once or twice but I usually wake up in the same position I fell asleep in and when I wake up, I'm awake! It's almost scary to realize how much of my life went by without this kind of rest.I did read a ton of comments and the ones that cause most concern I'll compare. First, the packaging was fine. The box is big and bulky but I could carry it up 2 flights of stairs without rest or the need for help. The mattress comes vacuum sealed in a thick plastic wrap. Be careful slicing it open as it's tight on the mattress and you can accidentally cut the removable (and washable) zippered wrap or even into the mattress itself. Regarding the odor that people have noted in other comments. There was a factory/chemical/plastic smell. I'd have to say something closer or comparable to a very light 'new car' smell. Like anything new I wear or sleep under, I washed the thin zippered wrap by itself and dried it once. I've always put a couple dryer sheets on a mattress when I change sheets and did so again with the Zinus mattress. There was no chemical smell after washing the wrap and I'm actually in bed now laying on it while writing this review and there's no smell at all. There was no mold anywhere to be seen. It's unfortunate that people experienced it and I'm not sure if it's a factory issue or a storage issue. Both mattresses came vacuum sealed in heavy plastic - heavy enough to keep the mattress compressed until it was removed from the box AND cut open. I didn't see it mentioned whether or not the mattress seal was broken or the box it came in had any damage. I'd be turned off as well if I saw that kind of mold and wouldn't buy again but having slept on it - It's worth returning for a new one in my opinion. It did take several hours to uncompress. No more than 24 hours for the 4" and 8" sizes but we both slept on them the same evening and experienced an incredible sleep.I did purchase two collapsible smart frames (another great purchase I'll have to review later). There's literally no need for a box spring in my setup as the smart frames are high and built to use bins underneath for storage. As is, they would replace your current mattress and sit on top of your current box spring. My daughter had a fruit punch Gatorade (red) that was not sealed all the way in her soccer bag. It leaked into the center of the mattress about a month ago. To clean, we used a little detergent and warm water to saturate the spot and pressed a towel down to absorb it. Repeated until there was no red coming up but there is a noticeable red stain (as there would be on any mattress I'm sure). What made it easy to absorb is that you can push down into the mattress without air or spring coils so saturating the spot with clean water and detergent really got the bulk Gatorade out.In the future, I would get the 12" for myself (because I enjoy a high bed) and the 8" can go to the guest room. I'll be getting another 4" full size for the pull out sofa mattress and I'll get my daughter a 4" twin when she goes off to college.

7 years later
I am writing this review 2 months shy of my 7 year anniversary with this full sized mattress. I bought it for my very first (&tiny) apartment in a city - the fact that it comes in a box was very important for transporting it up the fire escape entrance. It actually moved with me to three other apartments, and the way you can bend it to go up and down spiral staircases, through narrow sallyports, and (spoiler alert: to the parking garage dumpster soon) was also great.I absolutely loved this thing when I got it. It was perfectly firm but would sort of melt around your body as you heated it up. My dad liked it too and bought a similar one for their guest bedroom.Through my time with this mattress I spent about a year on it (usually) alone, close to 5 years with a partner full time, and then the remaining time with a partner part time. My weight has been between 130 and 150 pounds, and my partners have been between 185 and 215 pounds.Over time the bed has most certainly lost its firmness. I'm not a fussy person and don't have *major* issues, but my current partner is at the point where the back pain after a night on this thing is unbearable. We've tried rotating it and everything, but it's just worn out all around. Unfortunately we will be getting rid of ol reliable, BUT after looking at my order history and realizing how many years I got out of it for the roughly $210 I spent on it at the time I think it was worth the investment.

Very firm and I love it!
I'm the type of person who likes a very firm bed, just short of hard as a rock, lol. I sleep on my back and weigh 140lbs. This grew in a day and was up to 6" and fine to sleep on by night time. I left it to air out and went out of town for about 4 days and it had no more fume or anything when I got back. I have this on top of another 8" foam mattress that I always thought was too soft and too hot. This is nice and firm, with a little bit (about 1/2 inch) of give at the top. I used to toss and turn and wake up all hot in the prior one I tried which was a tempurpedic, mushy marshmallow foam that you sunk in to and I hated it. This is the opposite and zero complaints here I can actually sleep 10 hrs and wake up feeling great.

Not made for side sleepers
First of all, I want to point out that all these reviews that do not mention body size or sleeping position are all useless reviews. Anyone shopping for a mattress should know that the mattress type that will be best for them depends on body size and sleeping position. So reading a review that says it is great, or not, or causes back pain, or whatever, is totally pointless as there is no way of knowing if you will have a similar experience unless the reviewer provides that vital information.Stomach sleepers need very, very firm beds. Back sleepers need next firmest. Both will get sore backs without the proper support. Side sleepers need a softer mattress to sink into and cushion their hips and shoulders and to keep the spine in proper alignment but with a supportive base below the cushioning to support the weight. Featherweight side sleepers are too light to sink in and will get pain pressure points in their hips and shoulders unless they have the softest mattress of all.I am a strict side-sleeper. I am 5'3" and weigh 185lbs. I am also a senior citizen with arthritis and neurological problems. I therefore need a firm base but a deep soft top layer to cushion me. I thought this 12" Zinus mattress would do that. I was wrong. It is not as bad as my old bed. But it is too hard and I do not get as good a sleep as I should. I wake up after only 6-7 hours (normally an 8-8 1/2 hour sleeper) because of the pressure pain in my hips and shoulders from this mattress. When I first got my previous mattress (a 10" Spirit Sleep Serenity Theratouch Memory Foam) I used to audibly sigh with contentment when I got into bed - feeling the comfort of being enveloped softly and gently. But it did not last long - after 6 years and 3 moves it was done and I had to get a new one. This Zinus mattress definitely does not leave me sighing in contentment. The person who reviewed it and said that we only need to rotate it every week otherwise we shouldn't complain about how hard it is - wtf? You want me to rotate my mattress every week? You want a senior citizen lady with health issues to rotate a 12" king foam mattress every week? I think not. Even once a month seems extreme. I normally do it every 6 months with daylight savings time changes. And what if there are two 'heavier-than-average' individuals in the same bed? A better option is to buy the mattress that is right for your size(s) and sleeping pattern. The other comment I wish to make is about the price. Don't forget that the foundation that is designed for this mattress is about the same price. This king mattress with foundation came to almost a thousand dollars with tax. And the foundation does not have legs or any way to attach it to a headboard. So you also need to buy a bed rail system adding to the cost. Now, because it is not soft enough, I also will have to buy a thick memory foam to try to soften it up and that will make it so thick I will have to buy new sheets with deeper pocketsIt did expand quickly after being taken out of the packaging and it did expand all the way - in fact an inch thicker at 13" (I bought the 12"). It is even a bit bigger in length and width than the matching frame which I also bought. But not enough to be a problem. The height though you need to think about. With the mattress and foundation on a standard bedrail frame - at 5'3" I cannot sit on the edge of this bed. I can only kinda lean against it and roll myself in. And since I have to now buy a thick soft memory foam to put on it, the thing will be even taller and I will have to get a flipping diving board to be able to throw myself into it at night (and careful I don't break a hip getting out in the morning). Add that to the cost.I was surprised at how little it smelled. I could smell no odor at all. I think I used to be a Border Collie in another life as I have the most highly developed sense of smell of any human. I can detect smoke, mold, chemical smells, etc at the smallest level of microns per volume. I did not smell a thing on this mattress.

Worth it
I purchased these for my kids bunk beds and the 6” mattress were perfect! They are firm, but very comfortable and the best price I could find since I needed 2! I highly recommend for small kids.

just as described
the mattress came fast and conveniently in a box, it expands quickly and is comfortable. only down side is this bug that was inside the plastic and stained the mattress.
