The vasque lost 40 is a modern mukluk that is tough, technical, and built for cold. At its heart is a 7mm thick felted wool, removable liner, 200g of 3m thinsulate insulation and aerogel insulating foam underfoot for warmth. Anchored by the vibram overland sole molded in ice trek compound, the lost 40 grips frozen surfaces. With two zones of speed lacing for a snug fit, durable rough out leather, and a snow shedding soft shell upper, this is the one boot for those of us who have to work and play in the cold. At Vasque, they are committed to making functional, innovative and aesthetic footwear that performs to the highest standards. Their ultimate goal is to make shoes that inspire you to get outdoors and embark on an adventure. Incorporating and developing new and innovative technologies into their boots is what keeps Vasque at the top of their game.

Know your Vasque boot/shoe size
Ordered the same size on a hunch (and for a now removed discount) which this person fits in his other Vasque products (which is a wide size, as well). The Lost 40 fits just larger than my equivalent sized Vasque product. Replaced the stock insole with wool super-feet, and yet may slip in wearing a heavy smartwool sock with the boot fully loosened. Have not walked more than a mile in them yet, or tightened the fit at all. Mukluk. Decent grip on ice. LIGHTWEIGHT. Foot does not warm up a cold boot without body movement.Wanted these primarily to operate vehicles during sub freezing temps, when having too much boot would be dangerous. Toe profile is excellent. Thought a stick punctured the softshell from my own weight while walking, but not a mark was in left shedding it. The shell is a very dense weave.

Lighter than Sorels.
I've wanted a pair of mukluks for awhile. These seemed to fit the bill. They are a little tight putting on, but the fit is solid. I've used Sorels for years, and I love them; however for a long winter hike, they're a bit too heavy. I see these as a good winter camp shoe, but not so good with snowshoes. Im trying them out in the Adirondacks in a couple weeks.

Excellent boots except the drop
I live in Maine, and the boots are very warm for short times outside, <2 hours. Waterproofing has been adequate for shoveling snow; no leaks, no soaking through. The problem is the drop from heel to toe of the mid-sole. The heel is high enough that the drop to toe is steep. It's so steep it's like a wedge. It's a problem for me with a bad back.

Great boots
Love the boots so far. They do run small- I ended up with boots one size larger than my normal shoe size. I too found them difficult to put on. Solved the problem by wearing just a pair of silk sock liners instead of regular boot socks. The boots are so warm it doesn't make a difference, even here in Wisconsin. I also removed the lace sliders from the lower laces. It does mean I need to tie two sets of laces on each boot and it shouldn't even make a difference but it seems to. My boots go on easily now.

Went hiking on Mt Rainer and they were a dream dry and warm feet all day very comfortable can't ask for more than that
Boots do run somewhat small as others have stated , what I did is use a street sock instead of a athletic or a thick sock . Went hiking on Mt Rainer and they were a dream dry and warm feet all day very comfortable can't ask for more than that !

Awesome Boot!
Light weight, sturdy, no slip- by far best winter snow boots I’ve ever worn. Best fit for slender calf’s as it’s a high boot.

Can not get my feet into these.
I am a size 10.5. The boots were 11.5. I could not even get them on. The boot tops are too tight to allow your foot to get into it. Even with the laces removed I could not get my foot into these. Not that they were too tight when I got them on, I could not get my foot to slide into these boots.

Order 1 size larger for best fit
After reading the reviews of others, I bought a pair that was roughly one size larger than my normal shoe size and it seems like a perfect fit with room for a wool sock.

Can't get your foot into it.
Ankle was to small, extremely difficult to get your foot past that point.
