Great portable camera drone!
Purchased this drone because I own other Syma products and love their value/price proposition! I own an X8C and X20, both of which held up well (with commonly available battery packs for the X8C).Out of the box, it comes with one battery (I wish it came with two!), propeller guards, charger, screwdriver and a set of 4 spare blades.Downloaded the SYMA FLY app on my iPhone and was off. Connecting via Wi-Fi was painless. At low altitude, it had trouble maintaining stability and I had to trim to keep it level. The range was a good 200 feet or so. There is a touch of latency with the controls, but this isn't meant to be a maneuverable drone, and more so for capturing aerial shots and scenery. This is extremely portable, as I throw it in my bag to capture some impromptu landscape video in a pinch. The battery life is pretty standard for the course, 7-8 minutes, (more reason I wish it came with two batteries!) and it the video it captures is adequate. It did much better during the daytime compared to nighttime, which isn't too surprising considering this is a lower-priced item. No SD card required as it saves any photo/video directly to your device with a real-time view. I didn't find the route tracing feature all that useful, since it was easier for me to simply navigate the drone to my desired location and keep it steady. With moderate wind it holds up fairly well, but it may drift quite a bit in heavier winds.I personally find myself using this the most out of my 3 Syma drones, simply because it's so easy to throw in a bag and go.Highly recommended for portable aerial shots and fun!

This one has no controller and instead uses the cellphone as a controller. In the past I have used drones that were mostly uncontrolled by the phone. The Kudrone that I purchased from Indiegogo was a nightmare. This drone seems to read my mind and be ready to move the second I start to move the phone controls without over reacting. So the controls are solid. The hover function is also solid, Photos I am just beginning to test and it has been far to windy for me to take it outside so I flew it around inside some.I absolutely love the fact that it folds up so nicely Makes it a breeze to move around. I just through the box into my backpack and go! I am anxious to give it a try outdoors up in the mountains but as I said it has been pretty windy and I would still rank all of us as beginners. The control panel provided by the phone software is pretty complete. Just be certain to choose the correct drone when you open up. I was confused as to why could not start it up the second time I used it and it was because I had not selected the drone from the drop down menu of different drones offered. The only issue I had and it could be due to my phone was that i could not get the software to download for me. I did a few minutes of research and just just found the same software from Google Play instead and was up and running in a few minutes.Over all I would certainly purchase again just for the pure portability of the drone. Next I plan to test it more completely for taking photos.

The drone is excellent for beginners (12+). Controls are easy to use. Need a cell phone to operate the drone. The Z1 comes with no remote control. Instruction is ok to set up the drone. Need to download Syma FLY APP to your cell and learn how to used, there is no instructions manual for the controls. Battery just last about 5 to 8 minutes. Not a big ride but a good way to learn to control a drone. Especially if you have never fly one of this drones. Maintains height altitude with almost no drifting. If you are not an expert, use the drone outdoor in the open with no trees around. I already lost testing a Syma X21 on the trees which is also small and too fast. Good pictures and video for the small drone.

Syma Z1 - Difficult to fly, gimmick.
This review is for the Syma Z1. I think that they have it on the same page as the X23W to pad the reviews. The Z1 looks good on paper and has tons of cool features but it is difficult to fly!I have owned over 15 drones. Some as cheap as $15 and some as expensive as my Mavic Pro at $1,500. The Syma Z1 has been the worst flying experience yet. Make sure you have plenty of space and are ready to hit the power button when starting. The trim was so far off that as soon as it turned on it would zoom away. Took 2 battery chargers to get it to hover without zooming off.All of the other features are more of gimmicks (sales pitches) and are not very easy to use and don't necessarily make it easier to fly either. All controls were on a good 1 second delay from my phone. That means I would motion to turn and it would take a second to react. Doesn't seem like a big deal but every change in the controls adds up. You never quite feel like you have control of it.I definitely do not recommend this drone to any one. If you are new to drones I recommend buying one with a dedicated remote controller. You can have your phone as a display on the controller but don't buy one that only uses your phone for controls and display.
