Q: Will this work with Sprngfield xd 9 mm single stack magazine

I would e mail Tapco, a loader is usually provided with XDs in the box, the Up Lula 9 mmLoader is first class.

Q: When you press down to load a round is there enough room to actually load it? I have a similar one but it stays down and there is no room for the load

this speed loader is the only one I have found that push's the spring down leaving enough room for the load. If you do not have this particular loader you may have to bend the tongue down to compress the spring farther to make room for the load. good luck.
