How does this help - you have to load the speed loader to load the gun - seems like extra steps - so how does this help?

If you use nothing but the loader it is not that much help. However when you team it with the ammo block that holds 10 rounds in a circle ready to go , it is much faster. I have 2 of these blocks so I can have 200 rounds ready to go. https://www.speedbeez.com/ this link has a video that shows how it works. I really like mine. You go from fumbling with loose ammo to ammo in the block. Push down the loader on ten rounds, pick it up and push them into your revolver, close the cylinder and fire.

I am trying to determine the difference among the red vs gold vs pink speed beez loader for smith & wesson model 617.

Color preference only. Made for 6 & 10 shot. You'll need the loading block to work with them efficiently. I have 2 blocks and two loaders.

Will this fit the new Colt King Cobra in .22 lr?

This loader was designed for a smith wesson 7 round 22lr. I m not familiar with thr cobra and would have to research this. I would suggest that you contact colt to see if thecolt is chambered the same as the sw 617. I love this product. Regards
