Waka Quality Instant Coffee, Medium Roast 100% Arabica, 8 Servings

Got the 8 pack of sachets for a backpacking trip for 2 adults. Added powdered coffee creamer and it made for a great cup of coffee each morning. Easy to make, very little garbage, and great taste. Will definitely purchase again. Would be a great gift for a backpacker.

This is our second time ordering. We count on this coffee when we are camping. Not only is it convenient packaging wise, it tastes good. Waking up to coffee that tastes like what we brew when we’re home adds so much to our travel experience pleasure. Glad this is still available!

I’ve been making French press coffee for over a decade, and just got into V60 pour over this year. Most days I bring 500 ml of pour over in a good thermal mug that keeps it hot all day. That said, I’ve been trying to figure out how to make good coffee at work, and after months of researching hand grinders and electric gooseneck kettles that won’t blow the surge protector at my desk, decided to try “good” instant. Some of the other brands of “good” instant can be over $3/cup, so when I found out about Waka, decided to give it a try. At the end of a 12 hour day today, in an empty office, I had a chance to try it. Brewed about 8 ounces using the filtered water dispenser that has a hot water spout (water is hot enough to be undrinkable for a few minutes, so it’s plenty hot). The verdict? It tastes like good diner coffee. Which is a huge step up from any the other instants I’ve tried (including Sbux Via). A solid earthy coffee flavored coffee. It certainly doesn’t have any of the subtle flavors one would expect from fresh ground coffee made well, but it’s far better than the coffee that comes out of my work’s coffee pot.

I have not had a cup of instant coffee in years, but every now then I just don't feel like brewing a pot. Wire-cutter gave Waka good reviews. I Don't agree. No coffee aroma. First cup tasted like just hot water, so I made the second cup using less water - still no taste, but a tiny aroma. I'll use two packets for my next cup. If it still doesn't taste and smell like coffee my next cup will be two packets and less water. But one thing for sure I will not be buying any more Waka. It's not that it has a bad taste or smell it's that it has none. Update to my update. I have now purchased 2 other brands of instant--looking for the best occasional alternative to brewed coffee and low and behold the first I tried was the best, so I will be buying Waka--the 8oz. bag, making it easy to use the desired amount to get the desired result.

I have not purchased instant coffee in a long while mainly because I never could drink up an entire jar before it went stale. Recently, I decided to try individually wrapped packets because I was confident that they would stay fresh a lot longer. I did an on-line search for best instant coffees, and Waka was one of them. Waka was even at the top of a couple of lists. I wanted a sample before I ordered, but seller does not provide samples. I ordered the 8 pack and had my first cup this morning. My impressions follow. It was fresh. It tastes good but not exceptionally good. I honestly cannot tell the difference between the Waka and other instants I have used such as Folgers and Taster's Choice. The latter was my go-to instant for many years before they changed the container size. In short, you can get as good a cup of coffee from Folgers, Taster's Choice, and I presume a few others. The Waka is not worth the extra cost in my opinion, which was why I wanted to sample before I purchased. Still, I have seven more good cups of coffee left over, and I am not worried about the packets going stale before I can use them up. I am just glad I did not take the hype to heart to the extent that I purchased the 3 box size. Re strength, one packet to 8 oz of hot water makes a quite strong cup of coffee---too strong for me. I like my coffee a bit weaker. 8 oz is far less than a full size beaker, which is what I use, so I just added more water to top it up and then added a bit of half 'n half and of course a little sugar. It made a good cup of instant coffee. It would probably work well to turn into a liquid topping for desserts, too. However, if you are on a budget, just know that you can do just as well with some other brands. If you live for good morning coffee, then either brew the best you can find, or better still, if you have the freedom to do so, then go to a good coffee shop and have your morning coffee there. One aside I would mention is that the BEST coffee I have ever tasted in my life---smooth as silk, smelt heavenly, not bitter, and packed an unsuspecting wallop of caffeine, was coffee my spouse brought back from Colombia in the 1980s. We shared several of the coffee bricks with friends, and without exception, everyone and his dog absolutely raved about this coffee (it was the kind you brew in a drip coffee maker) and wanted to buy it. It was no exaggeration to say it was simply divine coffee. However, I have never seen it for sale anywhere in the U.S. in all of these years. I have no idea why. All I can tell you is if that coffee were made available here, they could sell it for several times the price of the Waka, and it would put Waka and every other coffee seller out of business. I think it could even have converted people who generally did not especially like coffee. The upshot is you can keep searching, but I doubt you are going to find anything better than the brands I listed. By all means, try Waka, but keep your expectations within a normal range. I could serve Waka blind to friends and family, and I do not think anyone of them would find it any better than most other "good" instant coffees.

Loveee it! Its such a great coffee. Its super smooth and yummy. Just sad that most variants are usually sold out as im waiting to try some of them.

I never thought I would find what I would consider to be the perfect cup of coffee in an instant form until I purchased my first box of WAKA Colombian Coffee. The flavor is the best I have tasted from any instant coffee on the market and I have tried many of them. Far better in my opinion than the big brand version that we all know has a shop on every corner. I believe the the folks at WAKA have very high standards when it comes to the flavor of their coffee and the process they use to make sure no flavor is lost in the process that they use to make this instant coffee. You would really be hard pressed to choose which coffee was a coffee shop coffee and which was an instant coffee if you placed them side by side. Being a very active backpacker and outdoorsmen the afternoon coffee is something I really look forward to. WAKA comes in convenient little packs that are easy to dissolve in hot or cold water which makes getting that coffee fix a breeze. Buy with confidence that you are receiving a high quality product.

I generally drink only brewed coffee, but wanted a super quick way to make a single cup once in a while. I've usually found instant coffee to have a disappointing taste, but thought I'd try a better quality instant. And Waka is better than most instants. If I was traveling, I'd like the single packets, but since I'm using this at home, I feel the packets are wasteful... and they are a little annoying to open at times. I also dislike packets if I want to adjust the strength of the coffee. And this is a bit expensive at $1.50/packet. All in all, this coffee did not disappoint in flavor, but I probably won't get it again, unless I plan to travel.
