Ramsey FM30B Digital FM Stereo Transmitter Kit

I previously built the cheapest Ramsey FM transmitter but was not happy that the frequency drifts with variations in the room temperature, and it is susceptible to interference from other nearby equipment. This model is a professional design. Assembly took the stated amount of time, and was not a problem with a temperature controlled soldering iron. I found the final assembly instructions slightly confusing, partly because I was in a hurry to turn it on, but got it put together ok. The instructions indicate to put the LCD contrast control midrange, or it may not be visible when the unit is turned on. I found this was an understatement, the LCD was not visible at midrange, and it has to be adjusted until it is visible. For my purposes I keep the output power at the minimum. My only suggestion for improvement would be a backlight on the LCD.

This is the second time I have constructed an FM30B. I gave my first one away, and it is still in use after more than 7 years. I liked the first one so well that I decided to buy another. It is one of the very few kits that allows you to adjust your output power. Why broadcast over a 1-mile radius when you just want to dependably reach your back yard? The kit is very well designed and the parts are top-quality. After construction it is easy to operate, transmits a clear signal and is very stable. If you have never built a kit you should probably have some experience soldering small components on a circuit board before you try this one. Also, you MUST take your time to ensure you understand the directions fully as you build the transmitter. But, once it's finished you will love it! I hit a minor snag with mine (one tiny capacitor was missing), but I got on the phone and called Ramsey and they had the part to me in 3 days. The price seemed a little high, but it was worth it, because it performs beautifully!

If you are confident in assembling circuit boards this will work well for you. I knocked off a star due to a mis-marked part and being unable to get any support from the company. Having an electronics background I was able to resolve the issue. The sound is very good.

I love this FM transmitter. I'm the type of person who loves to build things so this kit worked out for me perfectly. It took me about 6 hours or so to put the whole kit together. Worked great after powering up. I ended up using a dipole antenna to extend my range and I can pretty much hear it clearly all the way around my block. I'm using this for my light displays that I put on at my house. Definitely recommend.

Assembly was straight forward for a seasoned kit builder. A novice with some background in elementary electronics assembly may take a little more time, but doable. If you have no electronics or soldering experience I would not recommend this kitIt worked perfectly upon completion. Operation is very simple and the manual is great. I have used the unit extensively to stream my favorite internet radio station to my FM headset while performing chores around the house and yard. Love it.

Totally blown away with this products quality. Eight hours assembly time and worked perfectly at first power up. Could not be more pleased!

Love it. It went together fairly easily, and workedwell when finished. I would recommend it to anyoneinterested in building kits.

Superb quality transmitter. Worked extremely well as part of my automated Christmas lights display. It took me eight hours to solder up/assemble - but most of that time was looking up each resistor to make sure I used the correct value (it's been a long time since I've soldered anything up). Highly recommend it to anyone who wants a well-built, high quality FM transmiter.
