I've actually made starter felt projects for my 4 year old granddaughter to use and she was able to use this set with little instruction and a bit of example. She made the seahorse the first day but has sewn before. For an absolute beginner, choose one of the simpler shapes (starfish, stingray) - they can lose their attention span before a harder item can be finished. The kit has everything needed to make the items and they are very cute. This is a PERFECT gift for any child wanting to learn to sew/create and yes, an adult should be doing this with them. There are sharp items - but the whole point is doing something WITH the child - as in together. So much more fun for them and you are making a memory they will never forget. Do crafts together instead of sitting them in front of a gadget or screen. Nobody involved will regret it.

This is such a great kit - love how it has everything you need and the bright, fun colors! Kids had so much fun sewing and making their sea creatures! Fabric is soft and easy to work with. Loved that there is enough sewing needles etc that all the kids could be working on their own sea creature at the same time making it a fun family activity. Simple enough for the kids participating (ages 9 to 12) to do mostly on their own and good instructions if needed. Just had to help with tying knots. Needles and scissors are perfect for kids - not to sharp but did the trick perfectly. Loved the pre-drilled holes for easy sewing. Make sure to let the glue finish drying before sewing so the glued parts stay on better. Kids love their cute sea creatures! Product idea shown are super cute but also like that the kids could put their own spin on their creature if they wanted. Great product - loved it and so did the kids!

If no experience hand-sewing, then this is appropriate ONLY if someone who knows how to sew is involved to teach. Quality of product very good for the price. A plastic needle as with other children's sewing projects would be better, especially if working with lower of the age group recommendation and having no experience.

My kids are 5 and 4, but very active and curious - always asking for a new toy. We decided to try an activity instead. The box says for kids 7+, but with some careful supervision, this was a great activity for our kids! This is one of the few things we've EVER done with them where their attention didn't drift after the first few minutes.The pre-punched holes make it easy for the children to follow the pattern for sewing each side together. Even the 4-yr old was able to sew her chosen creature with minimal assistance from my wife or I. Great product. Great 'non-screen' activity. I'd venture to say our kids learned some manual dexterity by sewing!

My kids have admittedly been having WAY too much screen time so I got this kit to do with my 5-year old. Even though the recommended age is 7, I was able to help her through it. She loved doing "big kid" sewing and learning how to thread a needle. (She also thought the tiny scissors were "so cute.")I also got a kit for my 11 & 7 year old niece and nephew. The 11-year old was able to follow instructions and help instruct the 7 year old to put together the whole kit. So adorable! We'll definitely be grabbing more kits to keep on hand for quick gift giving.

This Beginner's Sewing Kit by Jueybean is Fantastic! When my daughter is with me, we list activities on the whiteboard that we would like to do in our days together... My daughter loves arts/crafts activities, and this product was recommended to me by a friend. I bought it and spend a wonder afternoon with my daughter sewing fun under - the - sea creatures. My daughter loved it, and I was grateful for an activity all planned out and ready to go!

This was such a cute and well thought out sewing kit. My kids loved it! I have a 7 yr old girl and a 9 yr old boy. Even my 12 yr old daughter did one as well and enjoyed it.Each project comes individually wrapped with it's own easy to follow instructions. There are enough needles, pins and strings for all projects to be made at the same time, which is great for a birthday party!I appreciated the quality of the materials, they were very well made and very vibrant. The fabric was thick and well cut out. I loved that everything I needed was in the box, no need to dig in my sewing drawer!

This is such a fun craft for kids to do. There are directions that step them through the process. They are so cute and both my girls had a blast making them.This would make a fantastic gift for kids. It is also a great activity to get kids off screens.
