For starters, let me put a disclaimer out - I did not purchase this knife through Amazon. Shocker...found a better deal on a different knife website.This knife should be a 5-star knife...and if you find the right one it IS a Five-Star Knife. I would recommend only purchasing this model if you can see the knife in person. Why - defenitly quality control issues. Not sure if it is more Case than Winkler or the other way around. I had to exchange my the first knife ordered due to a few issues. 1. The micarta was messed up...you could see sanding marks and grooves where the scales were shaped. It also had some discoloration that initially I thought was just the micarta itself. But after further inspection it was due to the shaping and scratches on the scales. Now this wouldn't necssarly deter me because as a user it will get worn and dirty but...2. The blade - didn't look used - but was sharpened uneven both on the recurve and both sides. One side was ground higher than the other and mid-recurve was a very slight burr. The knife looked handled but not used - perhaps a bad showroom model -- BUT...that doesnt excuse the sharpening of different heights on the blade. I was going to keep it, resharpen the blade but then I remmebered the price of this thing and decided to return it.Once exchanged, the newer knife is pristine. Sharp, even on both sides, and the micarta is smooth and finished. I have some custom blades and some production blades by Busse and Fiddleback and THIS knife is at home with any of those. Suffice to say, it will be my main camp/hunt knife. It can handle all the necessary chores of camp life and after briefly putting it through some paces it has shined. If you like a meaty knife (this is 1/4" thick steel) that can do the majority of camp tasks - this is a sound knife. While no knife can do it all - this does a laundry list of tasks above standard (within reason). Can this skin a moose? Absolutly! Can this filet a fish? Yes, but not as well as a filet knife. Get what I'm saying.As for the other add-ins...don't care so much for the lighter but its a zippo. The sheath is well made and probably where some of the price hike has gone to...the design is well thought out.I will update if needed.
