Fabulous book
This book answers questions you might not even have known you needed answered. Great explanations of English grammar and how this relates to the Spanish language and Spanish grammar. The differences between Spanish and English are well described and there are many study tips for acquiring a functional knowledge of the Spanish language. For instance, the author explores how in English one can add various short words to change the meaning of the verb "look" (ie, to look for, to look at, to look into, to look after). However, in Spanish, each of those meanings is represented by a different verb (buscar, mirar, estudiar, cuidar). And then those pesky little words in Spanish (le, lo, te, se, su, mi, me, nos, etc) are explained in clear detail so one can begin to use them appropriately instead of guessing and plunking them in at random. There were some gaps in the language workbooks I've been using, and though I expect over time they would have been filled in, this simple, brief, and thorough book is giving me a deeper understanding and clear explanations now, while I am extablishing the foundations.

My favorite book for learning grammar!
I absolutely love this book. It's not a workbook, it's a guide and an instruction. The approach is that it first teaches you the English grammar, then shows you how it's done in Spanish. This makes it all so much easier to understand. As a native English speaker, we are total experts on English grammar, but often times we don't *know* the specific rules and tenses and when and why we use them, things just "sound right" or they don't. So it's important to first understand your own language's grammar so that you can more easily understand how it presents itself in another language. I love this book so much that now that I'm going to try to pick up some Italian, I'm going to buy their other book, English Grammar for Students of Italian. These books are logical and well organized and a great reference. Highly recommended.

Best Spanish grammar text because it is aware that Americans don't know English grammar
I am an intermediate level learner of Spanish and this is the best introduction to the Spanish grammar I have used. I just finished cleaning my bookcase out and another 5 or 6 are in the garbage. Most importantly, it also explains English grammar. Despite being more educated that 99.9% of the population (I am not bragging, I have two advanced degrees) I was never taught formal English grammar beyond a very basic level. Therefore telling me something is in he past imperfect was of little use. This book supplies the background I am lacking in English. It also explains the Spanish very well. It is both a good introduction and a good reference work.

Vamos a Espanol!!!
Not the greatest book ever made for learning Spanish, but definitely a top ten (and I've been through hundreds).I love its no-nonsense approach. It is the bare essentials book on how Spanish grammar works. For me, I would compliment this with another book on words, usage, slang etc. and you would have something almost as good as a teacher.

Very helpful.
This is an excellent book to clarify grammar concepts in both English and Spanish. It explains the parts of speech in English and the differences between both languages. The explanations are clear and they are followed by examples. There are also versions in French, German, Italian, Latin, Russian, Japanese, Arabic, Chinese and one of Spanish Grammar for Students of English.

A fantastic tool
I am a good English grammarian and speak and write intermediate Spanish. My Spanish studies are ongoing, and this book does a fabulous job of placing English and Spanish grammatical rules alongside one another for the sake of contrast and comparison. Spanish grammar is in some ways more difficult than English grammar in that Spanish requires number and gender agreement and more tenses and moods are distintly different. In addition, there are some challenging components (i.e., the por/para rules) that require a lot of prtactice and memorization. This book is a great help to the student of Spanish who knows English grammar well or to the one who would like to bone up on both.

Great resource
Wish I had something like this when I was studying French more than a decade ago. Now it's a great resource for me as I study Spanish. The sad truth is that many of us (myself included) are deficient in *English* grammar, which makes it more difficult for us to grasp the complexities of Spanish grammar. This book is a no-nonsense, no-fluff explanation of concepts in both languages, side by side. It's helped me quite a bit.

Recomendado
Buen libro, lo hojeé rápido, y se ve muy didáctico (adultamente hablando), no es extenso, así que confío en que será útil para reforzar los mínimos.

making trying to acquire a second language a tricky business because terms like 'present perfect continuous'
Absolute lifesaver for anyone school in the 90s, when grammar was off the curriculum beyond 'verb', 'past tense' and 'adjective', making trying to acquire a second language a tricky business because terms like 'present perfect continuous', 'past tense passive', 'pluperfect retrograsive regressive lunaticiple...' even more obscure and harder to grasp than the target language. This book gives a handy explanation, with examples, of how the tense works in English, thus demystifying it and reminding us we know what it is, and when/how we use it, and then over the page, you see how it's used in Spanish. As we've just gotten comfortable on the English page, the Spanish now doesn't seem as daunting.I refer to it all the time, it's excellent for tackling new topics and going over old ones again.

Excelente ayuda
Recomiendo este libro a todos que hablan inglés y están aprendiendo español y a todos los hablantes de español que están aprendiendo inglés. Es un libro corto pero explica los conceptos extraños con ejemplos en ambas lenguas.

Really useful
Having done a number of languages - this is so useful a book to explain how grammar in English relates to Spanish, and also what it really means in English (as we are not taught the structure of language properly in the UK now) - I intend to buy another one for French and Italian too.
