These do not fit 99 VW Jetta w/ old body style; produced in 1998.

It is a toss-up. They were easy to install and were a big improvement over my original shocks in my Jetta. However the passenger side started failing after 10k miles. I tried lubricating the bearing and it would quiet for a day or two but the spring noise got progressively worse. The driver side is still good after 100k miles but the passenger side can't take any more. It is possible that a complete rebuild of control arm, sway bar and ball joints would have made the life much better but I am going with a different set for this round.They did ride fairly well when new. A bit stiff but I don't think there is a comfort model available for a Jetta. If you are going to rebuild the entire suspension system then these are not a bad choice. If you are planning on just replacing shocks, you take your chances. Everything for the hardware portion was included and it took about 90 minutes to do the swap on both with just one person!

I am not one to complain much (my wife does agree with this statement but its true). I put these on my MK4 TDI and the car road pretty good for a month or so but the ride quality and the ride height both starting getting worse. My car now looks like a 70's hot wheel sitting a few inches higher in the front than it does in the back. The car now bottoms out on the smallest of bumps and rides like an old rigid gokart. It makes me dislike my car and that sucks. The car is great, but now it rides so rough that I hate going on road trips in it.I purchased these about a year ago, and after about 6 months the ride quality went south so I had Amazon warranty them. Second set installed without a problem, and the fact that its an assembled strut is the only reason I gave it 2 stars rather than 1. However the second set hasn't lasted but about 3 months. I hate spending my money on an item than I later have to replace because it didn't work like it should.

EXCELLENT fit on my '05 Golf 2.0.Simple to install and have a nice ride feel. Worth the money!

They are very soft for my taste. Not recommended at high speed.

Ordered these for my 2000 VW Jetta with 159,XXX miles. These are a huge upgrade to what I had. The car drives smoother, tighter and straighter. I love Gabriel struts and will continue to use in the future.

Just installed 2 weeks ago. Big improvement over struts that had nearly 100,000 miles on them. I didn't have to deal with compressing coils.

These went in easy, not having to use a spring compressor and vice. The ride is great, like new again!
