Sioux Chief 653-B Hydra ester Water Hammer Arrester for Piping Systems

It should have listed in the specifications that it is a 3/4" male NPT fitting (a standard male pipe thread) on the device. I needed an adaptor as my in-ground fitting was 1/2", but that's no big deal to use an adaptor as long as one knows that one has to use teflon tape (or pipe seal or both) when screwing things together. I have the water hammer arrester installed on my yard irrigation system. It immediately stopped the "boom" that happened when the sprinklers turned off. The installation was "easy" only if you are familiar with connecting pipes together and have the tools and material to do this. I used a very large crescent wrench, a vice (to hold one of the parts so that I could screw the adapter onto the water hammer arrester) and I also needed a pipe wrench and teflon tape. The threads on the water hammer arrester were perfect and I did not have to clean them up. I had no leaks on my first attempt as connecting thing so the "fit" is excellent. I don't know how long it will function so I can't say anything about durability. However, the construction of the water hammer arrester seemed robust. AS water hammer arresters typically last 5-10 years, and I just installed it about a month ago, I do not know if it is a good value for the money. So far, so good and I have no reason to think it won't keep working.

We had really bad hammering from our LG washer and I knew the little baby hammer arresters they sell at HD wouldn't cut it. I bought some 1/2" to 3/4" T's with a threaded 3/4" insert. Works perfect. Not even a little hammering. Silence! Only down side was, as others mentioned, the threads on these are awful. Minus 1 star. Absolutely use both Teflon tape and Plummer goo for no leaks.

Hammering has STOPPED on Washer On & Off I’ve always had a loud bang when the Washer is running. As you can see from the picture, my house is older so the connections are in the basement and somewhat rudimentary. Smaller Hammer Arresters did not stop the hammering on my washer so I tried these larger ones. Once connected and running, there is still some faint knocking while the water is running (probably a different issue) but the loud thud/bang when the water shuts off is now non-existent. I would unquestionably buy these again if needed.

Installed it on my washing machine hot and cold and on my dishwasher. I now forget sometimes I am washing as I got so use to the pipe sounds to tell me the washer is done. Banging of the water pipes is completely gone. Strong build , it seems durable as there was no metal flaking or compression while tightening it to the dishwasher line or washing machine line. Had no leaking.

Used this for my sprinkler system. I first tried a tiny version (size AA) from Home Depot, which worked a little bit, but this larger version (size B) from Sioux Chief was what I needed to fix my water hammer problem. Installed in about 10 minutes. I added a female 3/4" threaded fitting to my existing PVC system and then screwed the Arrester into the threaded PVC fitting using teflon tape.

Like others have said, the threads will likely be damaged. They really should have a plastic cover over them during manufacturing to protect them from damage as they are likely tossed in a bin before being boxed up. As it was, it leaked the first time, so I had to take it apart and file on the threads a bit to smooth them out. As for the hammering, it has helped, but not eliminated it. I still get one or two hits before it kicks in, but it is better than before. Other issue is that it says one day shipping, but it was two days for me, which seems to be an issue with a lot of Prime products any more. Tell me up front it will be two (or three) rather than suckering me into ordering it because you claim it will be next day.

When installed properly it works quite well (took 99% of the hammer away). It is quite long so consider the space.

These work incredibly well. Very simple to install.

8 5/8" (21.9cm) end to end. NOT the advertised 9.2" (23cm) When you take out length for the pipe taper, MIP adapter, internal piston, and end cap that results in an approximate 8-10% smaller air chamber. Not yet tested, but hoping there will be no other issues.
