Product Description To support the educational needs of the child this tablet offers world class learning software based on the child's dreams, school curriculum and subject. However, we have not forgotten that fun, discovery and a hands-on approach always make learning more effective with children. In 2005 at the MIT Media Lab a project was launched to provide a modern education to every child in the world through a connected laptop computer. Today One Laptop per Child has distributed 2.5 million laptops to children in 60 countries. This tradition and expertise has guided the development of this tablet which provides an educational device for the child and a modern tablet for the whole family to enjoy. .com

Lots of content, good battery life, seems reasonably sturdy
We bought this tablet for my 2 year old son (who was 18 months at the time), in order to keep him occupied and away from our phones and tablets when we go on trips. So far, I've been quite impressed by this. For the price (which was MUCH MUCH cheaper at the time we purchased it), it is very responsive, comes with loads of content, and the battery life is pretty good, too. If we have Wi-Fi connectivity, we often will let him watch educational videos on YouTube, or show him the limited number of Little Pim videos it comes with if we don't.We keep it in his toy bag with his other toys we take out on trips, and it probably has gotten banged around a little, but it doesn't show any signs of trouble from it, so it seems sturdy enough for our little guy, anyway. We're very pleased with it, but I'm shocked that it's gone up in price so much since we got it. If it ever breaks, I'm not sure what we'll end up doing. The content should keep our son busy for years to come, if it lasts that long. It's very well thought out, with lots of different activities. It's got something to keep any kid who's in pre-K to around 4th or 5th grade busy and interested for quite some time. All in all, it's a great little device, and I'm glad that the OLPC project has gone more toward this system of leveraging existing cheap hardware, rather than designing laptops themselves as they used to. I have an XO-1 laptop from the original fundraiser, and this is leaps and bounds ahead of it, and for a fraction of the cost. (Of course, it's also many years later, so that's to be expected, but the usability is just so much better designed, and more interactive.)If you can get one cheap, pick it up!

Cheap and cheap
Not very expensive. You get what you pay for. This will remind you of the bad old tablets of yesteryear. Eyeball-threatening screen resolution, slow responses, clunky interface and really terrible charging time.On the plus side, it's cheap and comes with a bumper. You're more likely to break the charging port plugging it in for your kid than she is throwing it around. It also is preloaded with a lot of software. The software is, quite frankly, not that well tailored to development -- look for a Fuhu Nabi for that -- but there's quite a lot of options and is sorted into good categories. Also, while some have criticized the battery life, I've found it great. Admittedly I leave the Wifi off. But when it does come time to charge, THAT takes forever.

XO 7-Inch Kids Tablet XO-880 (8GB)
XO 7-Inch Kids Tablet XO-880 (8GB) I got this tablet to give to my granddaughter who is 2 years old. She sees her older siblings using their tablets and always wants to play on theirs. I really love this tablet because it is a great size for her. It is not too small or big so she can easily hold and maneuver it. This tablet has educational apps already installed on this tablet but also has the capability to connect to wifi and download other apps. I also like that it has parental control. There is a forward and rear facing camera. It seems to be tough enough to handle a rugged two year old. The tablet doesn’t weigh to much either. My granddaughter seems to enjoy this and is able to navigate very well on it. This tablet is useful to anyone of any age as it has the capability of any tablet I have ever owned. Highly recommend this product especially as a starter table.

Hook to buy name brand software and content - Not a usefull learning tool for kids, especially not in poor areas: All bluff
You can get any tablet. The software for kids is mostly tied to expensive services or online stores. It's a hook to use name brand software, even if purportedly it is supposed to be designed to give poor kids access to information and learning software. A standard tablet that you can cram with free educational software will do much better. Just add a rubber cover to protect it. Manufacturing poor, even for the price. Cumbersome procedures for teachers and grown ups to have total control over what kids can see to an extent it renders the whole thing useless. For people fearfull of what kits can learn when left alone, this I suppose is a means, but is so complicated to set up it requires a tech wiz. For people who really want to set kids free to learn with educational software, books and materials available for free on the Internet, this is NOT the way to go. They could at least have loaded a series of free books readily available on it. Those "available" require registering to buy in an online shop with a credit card. Ridiculous. I work in Mexico and in poor areas the tablet should of course be a funcional learning tool even without Internet access.

They USED to be really good
Our daughter loved the original model, and so did we. She broke them fairly often, one by dropping, one by getting wet, and a couple of others by running the battery dead too often, but at $50 each, it wasn't that big a deal. Now they're $120, which is more than some pretty fancy tablets made for the adult market, and barely different from the old ones. She's had her latest for 32 days, and the battery life has already dropped by almost half, and they're not replaceable. We won't be buying these anymore, they're just too expensive for what you get.
