Great Coffee Maker
Normally I wouldn't sit down and write a review for anything since I own and operate 3 companies and just don`t have much free time, but after reading some of the negative reviews that made Krups sound like it was responsible for the start of Armageddon I felt I needed to say something in the interest of honesty.I was looking for a coffee maker that was not only built well, but that could also produce the high temperature water necessary not for a GOOD cup of coffee, but rather for a GREAT cup, so on June 1st of 2010 I bought the Krups KM8105.The label on the bottom of the machine says it operates at 1400 watts. Not enough to power a small city, but certainly enough to get the job done right. As a matter of fact, Starbucks and Peets use machines that operate at high power levels like this..The machine itself is built like a tank. All metal, and all solid construction. Granted, stainless steel will get finger prints, but so will stainless refrigerators, dishwashers, microwaves, etc. I really like the very large drawer that slides out to accept ground coffee. It's right in front and makes the process of putting coffee in very easy. The water tank in removable, but since my other machine didn't have a removable tank I found that just pouring water into the back was not big deal. Some people may say that they can't get to it because it sits under their cabinet, but it shouldn't be under your cabinet when making coffee because of the steam that any coffee maker produces. The heat and moisture would quickly ruin your cabinet, so pull it out and pour it in.Because of the aforementioned 1400 watt power, the KM8105 machine makes coffee at an extremely fast rate, not a cut the corners rate, just a fast rate. And oh what a cup of coffee it makes. I have filtered water at my sink but I still use the 8105 machines built in water filter since water is a key component to great coffee.I can't speak to the purported problems with the carafe since mine came with what I assume is the new design. No drips, no spills No problems. Well OK there is one thing I don't like about the carafe (Krups take note), the lid is not removable so washing the carafe can be a bit awkward. The timer that allows one to set a pre-desired time for starting the brewing is really something every coffee maker should have (that's a hint to Bunn coffee makers). There's nothing like waking up all dreary eyed and being able to grab the pot and immediately pour a cup of java. Programming the KM 8105 was simple, although in the interest of honesty, this machine is similar to my previous Krups when it comes to setting it up. But I can't imagine ANYONE not being able to figure it out. And there is always the 800 number that one can call for assistance. The warming plate keeps the coffee nicely hot too!The digital readout on the KM8105 is extremely easy to read, and the back lights blue glow is rather cool looking.I really can't say enough good about this coffee maker. Does it cost more than other brands, or even other Krups machines? Yes? Does a Mercedes or BMW cost more than a Ford or Chevy? Of course. Quality comes at a price. How bad do you want really great coffee?? Besides it's a lot cheaper than a daily trip to a coffee house for an expensive cup of their coffee. Finally, to all the negative reviews that you may read..........either:1. They work for other coffee maker companies and wish to try and sabotage Krups (I neither work for Krups or any supplier of Krups)Or2. They have an uncontrolled need to wring their hands and whine at the moon. Their high pitched whining was probably bringing dogs to their front doors.Just my humble opinions. Enough said!!!

BUYER BEWARE!!!!! YOU ARE THE PRODUCT TESTER!!!!
KRUPS KM8105, 12-Cup Die-Cast Programmable Coffeemaker I just got off the phone from KRUPS service center and I feel compelled to write a review regarding this awful aggravating experience. First off "Stacy" the person who answered the phone had a bad attitude from the get go. "What is the product number?" I respond "where do I locate that?" she takes a deep breath as if I am totally daft and states it is on the bottom of the unit. The letters are so small and my eyesight is having difficulty reading which only aggravates Stacy more. Too make a long story short I had already figured out the problem before calling. The unit has a removable water holding tank that leaks at the connection which causes the water to drain out of the system. Obviously a defective unit. This is Stacy's response: I am told I need to fax or email the proof of purchase and wait for a label and then wait as much as 4 weeks once they receive the unit to get a new or refurbished unit back to me. I stated this was unacceptable, what is the reason for buying one of the most expensive units out on the market if this is the service. She stated I should have read the warranty! Well for those of you who are as nevi as I am, I had purchased CUISINART coffee brewing system the past 3 times I purchased a coffeemaker and they send you a unit immediately and you send back the defective model once you receive the new unit in a box that they send you with a return packing label. I bought a coffee pot because I drink coffee everyday! I can't wait 5 weeks for them to trouble shoot what should have been product tested. If you take the time to read this review I hope you think twice when purchasing any product from KRUPS they have terrible product testing which is apparent in the faulty coffee pot and now in the unit itself that clearly has a seating problem with the water tank and the unit. I am waiting for a call back from Stacy's supervisor and I hope I am wrong about this company and I just got a terrible representative who clearly hates her job and could care less what I think. I also stated I would write a review and she said go aheadI requested a supervisor to call me back and received the same response, (only on a politer note) they would send me a label and send me back the unit in hopefully 4 -5 weeks but no guarantee, his name was Tom. I highly doubt that there is only one Shirley or Tom in the service department so accountability is not likely with KRUPS items.

Excellent Coffee Maker!
Update March 2015:This coffee pot has held up fairly well, but not without drama. First off, the carafe issue did pop up. I contacted Krups and they replaced it with no hassle. Finally, last year, the seals around the reservoir spring did give way. No more removing the reservoir to fill; you have to seat it empty and use something else to refill it--much like most other more inexpensive coffee makers out there. These are annoyances, not show-stoppers. I'm removing a star (4 from 5), but the pot still produces a great cup of coffee. In the end, that's what it's for.****original review******This coffee maker was purchased over the holiday season from Amazon. I was hesitant to pull the trigger on this one due to all of the negative reviews, but Gopher Man's assessment really helped put those into perspective. The carafe problems haven't been an issue for me. It pours just fine. As far as criticism that the machine is loud- opinions vary, but I don't notice it at all.The machine is well built and full of really intuitive features. The slide-out drawer for the grounds and filter, pull-out water reservoir, and built-in water filter are all great. The controls are ridiculously easy to figure out. My only critique would be that a separate control for the warming plate would be nice-like on the Cuisinart machines. Nice, but hardly essential and almost nit-picky.The best feature of the machine, however, is the coffee it produces. The included scoop and the ability to count is all you need; the pot takes care of the rest.Overall, I'm thrilled with this coffee maker. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants a great cup of coffee at home.
