Failed after 3 weeks.
I was using this adapter on a Mac Pro. Worked out of the box and lasted for about 3 weeks. At that point it started to cut in and out and left me without a second monitor (use it for 3D design and photo editing). I couldn't figure out what the deal was, but when I booted in my Windows 7 partition, Windows said it detected a monitor but that the adapter was faulty. Picked up a genuine Apple adapter and everything works as is.I've purchased many "generic" adapters in the past and have had a 50/50 success rate. For the price, it's not worth returning. Oh well. I suppose thats the risk that you take.I can say however the quality is noticeable between this and a genuine. In fact, this adapter with a slightly longer cord weighs 22g where the genuine adapter was 33g. I know, I know I sound like crazy person weighing adapters but I noticed it when I took the Apple one out of the box and got curious. But as I said, you get what you pay for and in this case, I got 3 weeks.

Save your money and buy the more expensive cable!
I've used these types of adapters for years and decided to try a cheaper model than the more expensive one. Don't waste your time. This product worked for 2 minutes connecting my macbook air to external monitor. My monitor then went black for 1 second and returned to normal. I unplugged the cable and put it back in thinking it did not have a good connection and instantly my screen went to its lowest resolution. I put it back in and then had a better resolution on my screen but then the screen went black. Went to Amazon to return it and seller has a no return policy. So, i'm stuck with a useless dongle i shouldn't have bought in the first place. Only recourse is to write this review and hopefully convince someone else to save their time and money.EDIT: 2 days later... wrote a letter to amazon why there was no return policy for this item and they issued a credit to my account...

Detects a signal but doesn't work with linux
I recently purchased an Acer Aspire V5-572G laptop which has a mini-display port (Acer doesn't call it that but that's what it is). I wanted to see if I could make use of the port so I decided to make a run at it by purchasing this. To my surprise the product build doesn't seem too cheap and I had no issues with the ports; it connected fine to the mini-display port side and VGA. However, I use Ubuntu 12.04 linux on this laptop and although the forums suggest that the mini-display port drivers are available on this version of Ubuntu, I was unable to get an image on my external monitor. When I looked at the display settings it actually shows I'm connected to an external monitor however it won't display anything. One of the issues could be with the resolution its choosing to use with this mini-display adapter but I was unable to change it. I was unable to test it with windows and would be interested if this is just a linux issue or an actual issue with this adapter working with the Acer Aspire V5-572G.

UPDATE: Stopped working after 10 uses..
I received this product rather fast.It looks like the apple counterpart, without the mumbo jumbo price. It is also well packaged (come on, for the price, don't expect some shining "coat of paint" packaging). It came in a sealed transparent polythene bag. I tested it immediately using my 7 year old Philips monitor and MacBook Pro, in order to make sure it is working. It worked! I was very surprised, I mean literally. I ask myself, why would apple sell the same functional thing for triple (if not quadruple) the price. I am glad I check this out on Amazon. I have gladly returned the expensive $29.00 one I purchased from the apple store initially. This Mini Displayport to VGA Cable Adapter for Apple Macbook, Macbook Pro, iMac, Macbook Air, and Mac Mini works. This is all that matters. It is just a cable, why pay more? The number of stars I gave is with reference to the cost.A happy buyer! I will update my review if the adapter starts to act up.UPDATE:I estimated that I used this adapter for no more than 10 times overall. I went to a conference in October 2013 and the adapter was dead. It wouldn't project my powerpoint presentation. It goes without saying how embarrassed I was. Just to be clear, there is no physical sign that would forewarn you of any damage, so it is completely unknown why the adapter just stopped working. Very disappointed.

Doesn't work on my TV/Monitor - but item is too cheap to bother to return.
I give this item 2 stars (and the benefit of doubt). In short, I can't tell if the adapter came DOA or if it works and my mac just doesn't want to detect the tv/monitor it is connected to. I do have other TVs/monitors I can try to hook up to it to see if it actually works - but it's not worththe hassle because it doesn't work on the monitor I need it to work on. The item was less than $5 so I'm just going to order something better (and a little more) to replace it. (Not worth the hassle of trying to return.)The item comes directly from China so the delivery date allows for the item to be delivered within a few decades (lol) but it came in about 2 weeks (which is better than expected).

Rubbish adapter. I do not receommend for use with a Dell XPS Laptop.
I purchased this cable for my Dell XPS 15 L502X which only has a Minidisplay port. The computer is running Windows 7. The purpose of the cable was to be able to connect my computer to overhead projectors or to other monitors when I want to be able to make presentation.I have tried using the cable to connect to several different displays using a VGA cable and have been very disappointed with the results. The use of the adaptor has resulted in images which are either streaked and contain a lot of noise or no image at all. These results are consistent across every monitor that I have tried. Alternatively, when I have borrowed a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort or a HDMI cable, I can connect to the same monitors and the images are razor sharp. Therefore, I have concluded that it is not the computer or the monitor, but the adapter which is causing the problem.I would absolutely recommend against purchasing this Cables 99 adapter.
