Kichler 8406NI Three Light Semi Flush Mount

This is a beautiful, well-made lamp.I purchased this lamp after returning a similar design by Artcraft that had a lipless rounded glass shade (this review model has a lip around the rim) and 3 spiked prongs (as opposed to this model's 3 rounded clips) to hold the shade in place; but the reason the returned Artcraft model was unsatisfactory was the base had a very unfinished look--bare insulation around the edge of a reflective pad on the bottom of the base, which was wider than this model's base, and the tops of the bulbs and their receptacles were all visible from not far away.This lamp has no such problem--it's beautiful from top to bottom. The design blends in elegantly with modern decor. When illuminated, it creates a pleasing effect. Although the bulb bright spots can be seen a little more distinctly through the shade than with the Artcraft lamp I returned, perhaps due to a little extra light diffusion from the (unfinished looking) reflective pad on the Artcraft's base, this Kichler lamp is in no way harsh, and has an almost space-age look to it, especially when lit.While the lamp is very well made, I did have a problem one of the three arms that hold the shade in place, the one that is spring-loaded, allowing it to be pulled out an inch or so to allow insertion of the shade (the other two arms are fixed); the spring-loaded arm would sag down about 3/16 of an inch under the weight of the shade, resulting in the shade not being level. I finally remedied the problem by pushing the arm upward so that the spring-loaded part that extends inside the base and holds the arm in place was bent downward--where it should have been to begin with but somehow became bent between the factory and me. This eliminated the play that was there previously, so that the arm was as firm as the other two fixed ones and the shade became level.

When the light fixture arrived I decided to see how the shade attached to the fixture and how easily bulbs could be changed. After struggling with the spring loaded arm for several minutes, I decided to give up before I broke the glass shade. Keep in mind, I was sitting down with the fixture and shade in my lap as I tried to get this shade attched to the fixture. I can't imagine how difficult and dangerous it would be to try this on a ladder or stool. The arm just doesn't pull out far enough to accommodate the shade. I pulled so hard on the spring loaded arm that I thought it might break. I ordered two of these so perhaps the first one was defective. No, they both were next to impossible to get the glass shade installed. Packed them up and sent them back. Ease of changing bulbs is a priority for me in a light fixture. This fixture was an epic failure in that department. If you like risky task on ladders then this light fixture is for you.

It looks great and seems to be "just the right size".I was looking for a ceiling light fixture that was pretty simple and modern. After spending hours at Home Depot and then more hours searching on Amazon I came across this fixture. It looks great and fits very well into the room, not shouting out "look at me", but if I do look I really like the design.I installed this in the dining area to replace a hanging light fixture that was so annoying to me I couldn't wait to throw it out. Popped in 3 Philips 10.5W LED light bulbs and basically got a complete lighting renovation that saves a lot of energy.

Missing mounting bracket. Made it a pain to try to find one. In the end I had to make one with a washer and some super glue.Pros:Made of heavy glass.Built solid.Beautiful design.Cons:Wires are all individual not conveniently wired together like other expensive brands.Difficult to thread the hanger bolt through the fiberglass then through the hole.

Very elegant. This light is a step-up from what you might find in Home Depot. It really is in the category of premium lighting. The install was super easy. The only hard part is getting the length of the stem right to get the washer and nut on. But it's easy and you can do it. I have this fixture over my dining table with LED bulbs, so it uses little electricity. And it looks terrific!

Classy modern light. I also got two of the one light fixtures that match this for another area. Modernized a 35-year-old house.

This light is larger than expected, but still works well in a dark hallway. The metal arms are not visible unless you are several feet away. You mostly just see the metal knobs from underneath. This fixture gives off a lot of light. Overall, we are quite pleased with our purchase.

This is the third Kichler fixture in this style I've purchased. All three have come from Amazon. Unfortunately, with this fixture there was no hardware in the box. I am missing the electrical box mounting hardware and the finish nut which secures the fixture to the mounting hardware.
