Q: Can you pitch this tent as a hole or do you have to put the inner up first then the outer?

Yes you can, it's all attached as 1, there is no footprint so I purchased separately. There is good room too for accessories, and room to leave shoes in the vestibule.

Q: does this come with a footprint?

No it doesn’t I had to buy mine separately for £30

Q: In reality, is this big enough for 2 adults with rucksacks etc or would we need to upsize to the Helm 3??

I've used this tent mostly solo this year & it's spacious but have spent a couple of nights in the highlands last month with my partner & dog. I'm 5' 10 87kg & partner 5' 8 80kg With medium sized dog 13kg. 2x trekology beds and left a rucksack in each vestibule. Cosy but enough room for a decent nights sleep and minimal condensation.
