StilGut® Couverture, Genuine Leather Case for Apple iPad Air with Smart-Cover Function, Black

I've been on a long hunt to essentially replicate the two piece Smart Cover case for my original iPad 2, and it has been very frustrating. With that iPad I used an Apple real leather Smart Cover with another vendor's soft gel back cover. It worked perfectly for my needs for three years. I assumed it wouldn't be difficult to get a similar solution for my brand new iPad Air but that was a wrong assumption. I really wanted genuine leather, and I found that many cases that say "leather" mean PU leather, which is a polyurethane coated leather derivative. Be aware of what you are buying, if it matters to you.Apple no longer makes a real leather Smart Cover, only a Smart Case that covers the back as well, but it is $79.99 and it doesn't feel as much like real leather as I wanted. I thought I could do better. I wanted sleep/wake function with the cover, I wanted the back protected with something that would keep the iPad from slipping on a desk or other surface, and I wanted to be able to easily use the iPad in the lower propped up typing position, as I use the virtual screen keyboard about 95% of the time. When I travel and have to do a great deal of writing I take a separate Bluetooth keyboard with me. And I wanted the case to be red, preferably.This ended up being the the last case I bought. It is bright red, it is beautifully crafted, and it securely holds the iPad Air without covering any of the edges of the iPad Air's screen, what I call the "frame" around the screen.This case has a fairly stiff back cover that grips the iPad Air quite securely. The entire iPad is covered in red leather, and the case is lined in black suede or suede like fabric with the StilGut name woven or stamped in. All buttons and ports are open and useable. The red color is beautiful, and exactly the red color I sought. It also comes with a two year warranty, and feels better made than the Apple Smart Case, at the same price. My only quibble is that I would have preferred to have had smooth textured calfskin or similar, not the textured leather this case is made with. But it seems I couldn't have everything I wished, and this beautiful case came the closest.I've found that many cases do count on the iPad being secured by the case itself using pieces of leather or faux leather to cover the frame, showing only the screen. But that type of frame prevents my thumbs from easily reaching the virtual spacebar and prevents me from typing effectively.The StilGut company is a new one to me, but is apparently a highly regarded German firm, long established. I feel very confident that should any issue arise during the two year warranty period they will stand behind their product. Their website shows many products for tablets and phones in many colors and styles.These are the iPad Air cases I tried, bought, and returned. This is my second ipad cover from stilgut. This one came broken. the plastic part of these cover is very brittle. you need to improve the cuality of the plastic, the leather part is top notch.

I'm a three-year iPad owner who just bought a new iPad Air and needed a new leather cover, preferably in purple. I've had two other leather covers on my original (2nd gen) iPad, so I know what I want and don't want when shopping for a new cover.I spent quite a bit ($70-ish) on my first cover, and not so much ($12) on my second one. The difference was striking. While both were leather, the first one wore very well, and only wore out when one of the plastic corners holding the machine broke after 2 1/2 years of heavy use. The second one's leather started peeling away from the material underneath within a few weeks, but since the cost was so low I wasn't surprised and just lived with it until I replaced the iPad.But given all this, I knew I wanted to spend more and get the quality this time. When I saw the StilGut cover, this sounded like just what I was looking for.It arrived yesterday, and although I can't speak yet to the wear and tear, it seems to be exactly what I wanted -- a high-quality leather case with full coverage of front and back, a multi-positional (high and low) stand, and a reliable magnetic cover. (With my inexpensive second case, the cover didn't consistently put the iPad to sleep, so sometimes I'd pull it out later only to find the battery depleted.The case fits the iPad Air perfectly, the cover is weighted and firmly puts the machine to sleep, and the design is ultra-trim so the whole unit with case is only about half the thickness of my old one.I've definitely learned that it's worth it to spend more to get the quality and functionality I want, especially with my multi-times-daily use. Kudos to StilGut -- It's a lovely product.

Hmmm. Ordered and received, but:The leather is a very rough grain, not smooth like in the photo.The cover has four panels, not three like in the photo.The finishing was sloppy, with tatters of "leather" caught in the stitching on back of the cover. In fact, it looks like plastic film caught in the stitching, and the film wraps around from the front...There is a plethora of German words and phrases all over the packaging. Yet there is a obscure note on the back that this product is made in the "PRC." People's Republic of China.I can't recommend this case. The quality simply is not there and I think the marketing is deceptive.

The StilGut case fits my device perfectly. The cutouts for the buttons/speakers/mic are accurately placed. The case wraps around the edges and provides protection for the corners. The closure is a magnetic. The ipad turns off automatically when you shut the front flap. Esthetically, the case is gorgeous. The stitching is even and the textured leather is easy to hold. The leather smells wonderful!I chose this product because it appeared to be good quality, but cost considerably less than the one sold by Apple.Red leather case = Red letter day for me!Update 08Dec14 The case has protected my device during a two dropping incidents. It has a couple of pretty good dings on it, but the iPad is fine, which is the point of the case. I carry and use the tablet all the time and, except as mentioned, the case still looks great. I continue to be pleased with my purchase.The price has gone up since I bought it.

Nice looking leather, but the covering flap is not firm, so it slides around, making it feel like it could pop out of the plastic frame that holds it in. I probably won't keep it long.

We already had one for the ipad, which we have had around 18 months and still looks like new, so when my partner bought the new ipad air it was a simple choice. Great quality.

Excellent product

Prodotto molto buono per proteggere iPad Air. E' una custodia elegante che costa meno rispetto ai prodotti originali Apple, ma resta ugualmente un prodotto di fascia superiore.Nasconde un po' le linee e il design del tablet. Caratteristica molto importante per me: è ben studiata per non rovinare i bordi dell'iPad.Nei primi giorni sembrava molto rigida, con l'uso quotidiano la pelle si è ammorbidita. Il meccanismo di blocco automatico funziona correttamente ed è possibile tenere il tablet in orizzontale inclinato piegando "a triangolo" il copri-display.

Nachdem ich diese Hülle zwei Tage genutzt habe, schicke ich sie nach reiflicher Überlegung wieder zurück. Die Hölle ist mit 275 g einfach zu schwer (gewogen auf meiner Küchenwaage). Zusammen mit meinem iPad müsste ich somit 750 g in der Hand halten. Dieses hohe Gewicht ist einfach nicht praxisgerecht. Aus diesem Grunde werde ich mir doch wieder das original Apple Smart Case bestellen.Die Hölle hat mir ansonsten sehr gut gefallen. Das Nappaleder und die Nähte waren sehr schön verarbeitet. Das einzige was mich gestört hat, waren die etwas klebrigen Ränder an denen das Leder wohl zusätzlich verklebt ist.

Im Vertrauen auf die gute Erfahrung mit der Hülle für mein iPad 1 von Anfang 2011 habe ich Ende Januar 2014 diese Stilgut Hülle für das iPad Air bestellt.Leider bin ich enttäuscht. Das angeblich "feinste Leder" duftet so gar nicht nach Leder. Das Teil riecht, nein stinkt schon fast nach etwas künstlichem. Wirklich edel und dem stolzen Preis angemessen wirkt leider nur die Verpackung.Die Funktionalität macht einen guten Eindruck. Die Aussparungen für die Knöpfe und die Kamera passen, die Ecken und Kanten des iPads Air werden umfaßt und sind damit geschützt.Aufgrund des dem hohen Preis unangemessen schlechten Wohlfühlfaktors würde ich mir dieses Teil nicht mehr bestellen.
