This is the first auto pet feeder we have bought so can not compare against others.The feeder was purchased to ensure food was available for our cat if we ever have to leave her on her own for a day or so and were unable to arrange feeder cover at short notice. Our cat has access to the house and water and we wanted to be sure food was available as well even if we were delayed returning when out.The Andrew James Automatic Pet Feeder is robust and providing you read the instructions through carefully before trying to set it up the first time very easy to set up. The units motor makes quite a bit of noise during delivery which takes about a minute with the food rattling into the tray before your recorded message then plays three times over, the message is good enough to fool our cat that we are calling her to feed, suggest you record the usual message you use to call your cat when food id put out. ( Initially the cat was quite put out by the noise of the dispenser but has gradually started to be less bothered).Our cat only eats a small amount of dried food a day if wet food is available so we have set the unit to deliver one quarter cup feed just once a day.So far we have been impressed with the unit - time will tell how effective and reliable it is but we are going to leave it running 365 days a year for one feed a day.

Very handy product. I got it after seeing my sister's cat use it. It is a bit fiddly to set up and feels like you're defusing a bomb when you've got one minute to set the clocks etc. Once it's done it's fine! If your cat is away for a few days, to save you having to reset it just take the food out of the container so nothing comes out. It's easier than removing the battery or adjusting buttons!

This has been a God send as I know my cats are being fed even when I’m not there at the usual feeding times. It’s easy to programme with multi options for times and feeding amounts. The only down side is the noise it makes as it did scare the cats at first but now they seem used to it.

DO NOT BUYThese were great when we first bought them, we were able to go out in the evening and know the cats would be fed, or go away for a weekend and have someone check them once a day. But on multiple occasions we found that we'd come home, and one or other of the feeders would be displaying "ERR" on the screen, and wouldn't have dispensed any food, and our poor cats were hungry.The last straw was when we came home from a week away in January (before all the coronavirus stuff). We had a lady coming in once a day to play with the cats and do the litter trays, with the automatic feeders both set to feed the cats. We figured that even if one of them failed, the other would still work, and they got a midday meal from the lady when she came on her daily visit.We came home to find both feeders displaying "ERR", and two extremely hungry cats. The feeders stopped working in the middle of the week. Our cats went without their main meals for 2 days because they stopped working. Thank goodness we have the cat lady giving them a meal at lunchtime otherwise things might have been worst.Portion control is non-existent, it doesn't change no matter what you set it to. When the battery runs out, or you have to reset it because of one of the regular "ERR" messages, you have to reset the whole schedule. There's no way of knowing if it had dispensed food or not. The so-called sensor it has to tell if the food tray still has food in it also doesn't work.All in all, useless. DO NOT BUY.

Really useful. Avoids having to ask neighbours to come in and feed our cat when we are away.Timer is a little awkward to set up at first but once you have got the knack it is fine.We use it everyday .

I did keep and use it as needed it to work but not brilliant for larger dog (kibble).The message comes after the food is dispensed which is odd.Take ages for the portion to drop and instructions not great.Sturdy design and holds a good amount of food

I FIND THAT IT DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY AND I AM FED UP WITH TRYING TO PROGRAMME IT TO GET THE CORRECT FOOD SIZES, WENT AWAY FOR A WEEK AND WHEN WE GOT BACK OUR CAT WAS VERY HUNGRY, WE DARE NOT LEAVE HIM ALONE AGAIN. YOU CAN`T RELY ON THIS FEEDER. I WANT TO SEND IT BACK AND BUY A DIFFERENT ONE.

......but you need to read the instructions twice before starting and perhaps like me follow one of the many tutorials on youtube, the company one is the best. After just a week in use I find it faultless.
