Cute, warm, but not THAT warm
I'll re-rate these socks after testing for wearability. They have stiff competition: my 30-below socks from VCS are now about 10-20 years old and my last pair is starting to wear out (the original maker from 20 years ago I sadly don't know, but the last three pair were Wigwam 40 below, sold here in Amazon also). Vermont Country Store is out of them. So, I came here. These (red) socks are nice but they don't look like they'll last. Trick: wash the wool socks in hot water so they will shrink (which means, you buy a size or two larger than you need, in the first place). This toughens them. Dry in the dryer, high cotton heat. Similar effect to how you make boiled wool, which is nearly indestructible. The wool becomes felt-like.That's what I did to my Wigwams, which after 10 years of constant winter wear, might finally be wearing through at the heel (well, the one remaining pair is still good). The socks become very rough, so maybe use fabric softener if you want them soft. Or, just care for them in the usual, nicer way. And either way, they will pill. If that bothers you, use a 3M's heavy-duty scrub sponge's scrub side to swat away the pills. Or, use a velcro hair roller, a Lola plastic scratchy sponge, or a Pumie (very lightly). If all you want is cushy socks, these fit the bill. Nice feel, look great. Whether they'd stay up on a man's leg, I don't know. Since I always buy sizes two bigger, they stay up on this female. They don't really work in -30 below weather, nothing does (you need neoprene or sock liners or several pair of socks in that weather). But they are good when the weather is just below freezing, and they are a great alternative to slipper socks.

Warm, inexpensive and dry fast
These socks are great for what I need. Winters can be chilly in the NC mountains and these have become my everything socks. I use them for working outside, running errands around town and even in my house that I don't heat to save some dough :-/ My only complaint is that they aren't 100% merino wool. Instead they are 1/4 nylon. This will make them dry faster, but wool retains 80% of its warmth even when it is soaking wet, so I don't find this necessary. I am partial to natural fibers. In any case, the socks are thick, warm, VERY fairly priced and the little bit of nylon makes them good for intense activity in cold weather. Overall I'm happy with the purchase.

Soft Warm Socks
These 30 below XLR socks are so soft and thick there is no way you could get blisters in them. They are probably too thick to wear with your normal size boots. I bought them big and I wear them inside the house because the floors are very very cold. The calf sometimes slides a bit (keep in mind I bought a size big) but the heel stays put and the sole doesnt bunch up. But thats in the house. I have no idea how these socks do outdoors. These are NOT knee high unless you are very short. If that is what you are looking for, you need to find a different style. They keep their shape and size in the wash. I would buy these again.

Keep your feet warm!
These are the warmest wool blend socks I have ever had!!!! I love them. During this past winter my feet were never cold. They wear well, and wash and dry in the machine just fine. To keep the leg from stretching out I do not roll them, I fold them.

great for walking in the cold- note color
these socks are THICK and fuzzy on the inside. I found they made a huge difference when walking long distances in New York City, as in my feet hurt less than they did in dress socks, when wearing the same shoes! They are so thick that they're not the most breathable sock, they're best for when it's actually really cold- being inside when wearing them I found my feet sweating a little bit.it's important to note that not all the colors come in a 2 pack. I got the navy color which does.

Great socks for cold climate and labor intensive jobs.
Got these for my husband. He works outside and in cold climate frequently. (Iowa, below zero and windy in winters). He says they are very warm and he especially likes that they do not slip around in his work boots and that the wicking is great because it keeps his feet dry even though he's sweating while he's working. They are true to size. Also he says a lot of socks get looser as you wear them more and these do not do that, which he really likes.Would definitely purchase again and recommend.

worked in -40!
My sister moved to great falls Montana, and I got her these as a gift. Good thing I did! It got down to -40 a couple of times, and was consistently -20's. She said these socks were a lifesaver! Kept her feet warm. Period. Awesome socks!

I love these socks
I love these socks. They are better than I had wanted them to be. I am contemplating getting more just because I like them so much. I thought they would be too tight on me, but they are not. They fit perfectly.
