For years, fans of Poland’s Marcin Wasilewski Trio have been asking for a live album. The group made this one “by accident”, unaware that their August 2016 performance at Jazz Middelheim in Antwerp had been recorded by the festival. On listening, they felt that it captured the soul of things rather well, “maybe because there was no awareness of playing to the microphone”. Unselfconsciously dynamic and outgoing, the trio draws an enthusiastic response from the audience. “Being out in front of an audience of 4,000 doesn’t change your playing or your skills,” Wasilewski reflects, “but with a crowd of this size you have to project more energy. You can hear that in this recording.” The trio is certainly in energetic, extroverted mode, fanning the flames of their ‘Spark of Life’ repertoire and drawing on the deep understanding Marcin Wasilewski, Slawomir Kurkiewicz and Michal Miskiewicz have established in the course of a quarter century of shared musical endeavour. Wow LIVE MWT - As a Huge MWT fan and fan ECM in general a bit disappointed
As a huge fan I have everything on album they have done back before MWT and collaborations with Stanko . A brilliant Polish jazz Trio - Marcin has that magic piano touch which make this group extra special . For me they replaced EST (sad loss of Esbjorn RIP ) as Piano Trio to go to !Strangely I was thinking like Simon Birkett below - before I saw his review! . The bass is NOT as clear as expected for ECM - surprised with Manfred Eicher's production !! My system handles a lot of bass but it is not sharp ,a bit muffled cf other recordings of MWT & ECM . Good selection of tracks , even though I love Sting cover I would not have included it here - this should showcase their own work Music 5 stars sound 3.5 - 4 stars DJEJ

Timeless Trio
Marcin Wasilewski Trio is The most lyrical and musical modern jazz trio today. I have all their albums from Simple Acoustic Trio to this one. Though these are all known pieces I thoroughly enjoy them. Bought the CD as well as the vinyl.Highest recommendation for anyone who loves music and musicianship.

Great music so why only 3 stars for the 2 LP set and 5 stars for the CD? Let me explain:
The "Marcin Wasilewski Trio" is AMAZING I first heard them with Tomasz Stanko and as a result have 3 of their studio CD's. A few months ago I noticed the trio had a new "live" recording available so I bought the CD rather than the LP, which I would have preferred, at the time it was $52.49 compared to $15 for the CD. A couple of weeks ago I noticed the price for the vinyl had dropped substantially to $29 so I decided to order it. I have a rather large LP collection and a high end system and I generally prefer vinyl to digital - 90% of the time I've found that vinyl is smoother more real and organic sounding. Unfortunately NOT in this case the vinyl was much less dynamic more compressed and was easily trounced sonically by the CD in no small way - very disappointing! It's also unusual that the vinyl edition, which is a 2 LP set, only had 3 sides of music! What would have normally been side 4 was blank? I can't understand why ECM did not spread the music out over all 4 sides and consequently would not have had to compress the sound as much as they did it basically sucked the life out of the vinyl. If you're thinking of popping for the vinyl I'd recommend NOT doing so get the CD it's sonically and dynamically much more natural sounding and less expensive - you can't loose.*PLEASE NOTE*: The LP itself had a little more surface noise than I'd have liked but it arrived on time undamaged and as advertised so no issues there.

Auch wenn bis auf Night Train to you, alle Tracks auf der Spark of Live zu hören sind(unterstützt von Joakim Milder am Tenor Saxophon), so ist dieses live Album des Trios eine Bereicherung. Die spielfreude der Musiker begeistert.Vinyl Qualität ECM typisch erstklassig.

内容は文句なし。但し音が・・・
ピアノとドラムスはECMらしい音。しかしベースが聴き取りにくいほど音量レベルが低い。バスドラの音にかき消されてるという感じ。何時ものECMらしくないバランスの悪さ。LIVEという事も関係してるのか。内容が良いだけにもったいない。アナログで出してくれるのは有り難いですが残念です。尚、D面には音は入ってません。

World Class Jazz Musicians
I admit to being a huge Marcin W. Trio fan. I love these guys! I own all of their CDs. LIVE is an excellent album. The musicianship of this CD is as good as their studio albums. They are among the best jazz musicians in the world. I wish they would tour the Midwest United States so that I could see them live.
