Has helped me battle gum disease
I highly recommend this toothpaste to keep gum disease under control. This isn't very scientific, but here's my experience. I first tried this 6+ years ago because I wanted to try a healthier toothpaste without fluoride and the probiotics appealed to me and the reviews were good. I had positive dental cleanings while using it and I stopped having the sinus inflammation that Colgate Total had been giving me. It was a big success. I used it for a couple of years. It was often out of stock and hard to get and after a couple of years, I decided it was too expensive. I tried a different fluoride-free "healthy" toothpaste. My dental cleanings went slowly downhill over the 2-3 year period that I used the other toothpaste, until I had to have a tooth extracted because of gum disease. That was a huge wake-up call!I immediately went back to using this toothpaste again and my dental visits are much better. The gun disease has receded. The dentist even told me I don't need to have cleanings as often (they had increased my cleanings to every 3 months after the extraction!). I highly recommend this toothpaste and I'm giving it a review even though I don't like sharing personal info publicly in hopes it will help with sales and the company will stay in business and continue selling it, because my gums sure do appreciate it and I want to be able to keep using it.

Wonderful Alternative to Fluoride and Chemical Ridden Toothpaste
Although I have had this toothpaste for only about a week, I can honestly say that I LOVE it. I am delighted to have a toothpaste without fluoride and other harmful chemicals. Additionally, WITH probiotics--HOW GREAT. I began using oral probiotics in late fall. Thus far, I have made it through this particularly terrible cold and flu season without so much as a ticklish throat. NOW, to have the power of oral probiotics in an all natural toothpaste is incredible!Performance-wise, this toothpaste is great. The taste is pleasant without being overpowering. My teeth feel clean in the same way that they feel clean with traditional toothpastes. Although I don't use much, the toothpaste activates nicely in my mouth. I will be continuing to purchase this.

My Dentist couldn’t believe the improvement
My Naturopath recommended this for me and the results have been amazing. After 8 months and two Dentist cleanings my Dentist is floored by how much better my teeth are. Less inflammation, less plaque than when I was using Flouride toothpaste. My teeth and gums are happy, my dentist is happy for me and it tastes great!!

Sickly Sweet Taste
I purchased this for the probiotic, but wish they would keep the Stevia out. The previous probiotic toothpaste I used did not have sweetener and it was just fine. PerioBiotic is somewhat sickly sweet and doesn't feel fresh.

My favorite toothpaste
Everyone seems to have an agenda against bacteria. Everywhere you look, there are products for your mouth promising to kill all the bacteria in it. This doesn't make sense to me. Bacteria are everywhere; even if I am able to kill 100% of the bacteria in my mouth, the next time I open my mouth I will introduce new bacteria, and there's no guarantee they will be beneficial to my dental health.Enter this toothpaste. It contains bacteria that is good for your mouth. That means you can promote healthy mouth flora that will be able to control all the bad bacteria that try to worm their way in there. People take probiotics in pill and food form (think: yogurt with active cultures) to promote good gut flora. This is that concept in toothpaste form.I love this toothpaste. My breath stays fresh for a long time; in fact, when I'm grooming in the morning, I sometimes can't even tell whether I've brushed my teeth or not. That's definitely an improvement over my previous mild morning breath.I wish Amazon would include more details about products like this one. Just because I'm that kind of girl, I typed up the list of ingredients, for you:INGREDIENTS: Water, calcium carbonate, calcium glycerophosphate, glycerin, xylitol, sodium bicarbonate, spearmint oil (Mentha viridis), carrageenan, maltodextrin, Dental-Lac(tm) (Lactobacillus paracasei), potassium sorbate, yucca (Y. filamentosa) powder, stevia leaf extract (Eupatorium rebaudianum bertoni), zinc chloride.I like that there are no obviously nasty ingredients listed, although I knock a star off for some of the ingredients included (not to mention the high price!). Ingredients in my old toothpaste that I did not like include sodium lauryl sulfate, artificial coloring, and sodium fluoride, among other questionable ones. The ingredients in this probiotic toothpaste that I wonder about are glycerin (some people say that's bad for your teeth) and xylitol (isn't that supposed to kill bacteria? I don't want to kill the good bacteria I just put on my teeth). There are some other questionable ingredients that I just haven't done any research on. Overall, this toothpaste is a big improvement over my old kind. Even if I didn't notice an improvement in my breath, I would still like it just for the missing nasty ingredients. Here, let me do you another favor Amazon didn't and include the instructions on the back of the tube:SUGGESTED USE: Apply PerioBiotic(tm) toothpaste onto a soft bristle toothbrush. Brush thoroughly after meals for at least 1 minute. Spit out the excess solution, and for maximum benefits do not rinse to allow longer contact of the natural ingredients to the teeth and gums. The remaining solution is not harmful if swallowed as it does not contain fluoride. Brush 2 to 3 times per day or as directed by your health care professional.I have also tried the watermelon (Designs For Health - PerioBiotic Toothpaste Watermelon Flavor - 90ml) and the fennel (Designs For Health - PerioBiotic Toothpaste (Fennel flavor)) flavored, and spearmint is my favorite. My 5-year-old daughter says the other two flavors make her thirsty, but the spearmint doesn't. My husband loves the fennel because it tastes like black licorice. My 2-year-old son hates any toothpaste, but the watermelon seems the most tolerable to him because its flavoring is very mild.My husband says he hasn't noticed a big improvement in his breath, but if you ask me, that's because he rinses after brushing. As you can see in the "Suggested Use" above, for best results you shouldn't rinse. I actually love that you don't have to rinse because it is hard to get little kids to rinse properly. One other tip if you're looking to improve your dental health: sleep with your mouth closed. Saliva is good for your teeth, and breathing through your mouth dries out your mouth. When someone invents a probiotic deodorant, I'll be the first one to try it. Let me know if you hear anything.
