The Drummer's Bible: How to Play Every Drum Style from Afro-Cuban to Zydeco

This book is quite simple. It has brief explanations of various drum styles and then proceeds to provide very clear notation for the styles as well as providing audio samples of them. It's no-nonsense and exactly what I was looking for. To the authors, thank you for putting the work into this book and audio samples -- it's fantastic.On the Kindle version:I gambled and got the Kindle version of this book and was very, very pleasantly surprised that not only was the text of the book generally well-rendered, but that the audio samples from the physical CDs were included in the Kindle book, embedded into the relevant sections. If easy access to the audio samples are important to you, the Kindle version may be the best version to get.

I had recently gotten into making electronic music, I know a bit about music, but I don't play drums and don't particularly plan on learning anytime soon. I was however interested in drumbeats, and had been running into a wall understanding some dance and world music which is heavily percussion based. So I read a few books, most were either too superficial (written for 10 year olds just starting with music) or too in-depth (I really didn't want to know quite so much about salsa) but this book is just perfect for inspiration and ideas on percussion. It explores a style in a page or two, has a representative beat or two and accompanying mp3 so you can check what it sounds like. Really great stuff. Nothing else like it. Every producer and electronic musician on earth should own a copy. It's probably good for drummers, too.Incidentally, the kindle version is great even if the figures could stand to be a bit more higher definition some times. With the "included CD" if you contact the authors they'll send you the mp3 files. Apparently there was some snafu or something with that, They were really friendly about it. Seriously just e-mail them, they're over at the book website with contact info drummersbible.com or something like that.Highly Recommended. $11 for this is ridiculously cheap.

I love it

This was an item I purchased for my son so this is kind of a third party review LOL. The book gives a lot of useful information and has really helped my son in his pursuit of percussion perfection. It's easy to understand and even gives drills and such to practice.

The best book for drummers that are wanting to learn a variety of drum styles. I was hooked when I was able to get the audio part of the book, within the book. I had checked this book out in the library, it came with a cd as a referance guide, and wanted to add it to my collection of drum books I practice with. However, my sister bought it through Amazon books, and it was wonderful. I was able to place my Kindle tablet on my music stand In front of my drum's and not have to run back and forth to my DVD player, to listen to the corisponding chapter CD. Excellent book. No it doesn't have every possible variation or nuance for every style of music. But it does provide basic patterns and an understanding of what traditional instruments the drum set is covering or duplicating. A must have for a working drummer wanting to expand their musical understanding and versatility. Some of the styles I ignored since I hadn't even heard of them in 40+ years of playing. But many of them I carefully practiced and refined the patterns I had been playing for a more authentic feel and sound. A very useful resource to have on hand.

Really happy that I got this. It's fairly comprehensive, it's full of grooves and well-written background information on them (much more than is included in The Survival Guide for the Modern Drummer), and I have all kinds of interesting new beats/grooves to learn about and challenge myself with. I was so pleased with it, I also bought the Kindle version so that I can easily take it with me wherever I go. Great book!

As a Drum teacher, I am always looking for method to add to my collection and also based on my needs for certain students but also for myself as reference. I liked a lot this method because it cover a variety of rhythm (a lot more than usual), well written, including audio samples.
