amazon service saved the day
Thank you amazon for expediting my order! This product was not as easy as swapping out a traditional water heater, but only because of the additional plumbing work like running new gas and water lines. Love the small footprint and the easy operation. Literally connect all the lines plug it in and hit power and boom, you're making instant hot water. This will save a lot of fighting with three kids showering at the same time every AM.

Nice when it works, which isn't often enough
Update after 3.5 years: A second failure of the plastic flame sensor window occurred. However, the replacement unit for the original water heater (see below; this unit was replaced under warranty after a year of service; the replacement unit is 2 and a half years old) has developed a cracked heat exchanger. This will necessitate ANOTHER full unit replacement. This time, the labor warranty is expired so I'll get to do this replacement myself (or at my cost if I can't do it myself, but I can in my case). How to physically get the new unit is still unclear but I suspect another few hours on hold will get that sorted.Update 2 years later: After a massive amount of frustration, I discovered the issue with reliably heating water. There is a plastic window that goes between the flame sensor and the combustion chamber. I'm not sure why it's plastic instead of glass, but that plastic burned through/discolored to the point where the flame sensor could no longer see the flame. Replacing that half-cent piece of plastic fixed the problem. That half-cent piece of plastic costs $20 from Rheem. I'm really not impressed by the engineering on this piece of the heater. I suspect that this part will continue to fail every few years for the life of the heater.I purchased this product 11 months ago to replace an aging whole-house water heater, also from Rheem. The old one lasted 12 years before it started failing. The new one made it two months and failed. Rheem sent a service tech but they couldn't find anything wrong. It then failed again about a week later and they replaced the main computer board. 9 more months went by and it failed again with the same problem (no hot water, no attempt by the water heater to start). Two more service dispatches and they decided to replace the whole unit. Only now, Rheem and their contractor are arguing about who is supposed to actually get the new unit (their contractor says I have to buy one at my expense and get reimbursed). Long story short, I haven't had hot water in over a month and I have no resolution on how it will be fixed. Rheem's phone support said that this model is significantly less reliable than their previous ones. I love whole-house water heaters, but Rheem apparently no longer knows how to make them.

So glad we bought this water heater until it quit working!
Updated after 2 years: Great tankless water heater when it worked. I’ve had the same experience as Aaron G. (Review with 1 star) dealing with Rheem customer service and local plumber getting this unit replaced. It’s evident I purchased a lemon. I’m going on 4 weeks and Rheem has yet to resolve this issue and is expecting me to resolve it with the Distributor who doesn’t want to deal with Rheem’s warranty either! I rarely leave reviews, but I had to on this one. I wouldn’t want someone else to go thru what I’m going thru right now.

Check those internal gas fittings
After test firing unit slight gas smell occurred. Checked all my lines multiple times with bubble test and sniffer. No dice. Opened the unit up and found leaks on gas 2 of the 3 fittings inside. Came from the factory with multiple marks on the gas fittings where the assembler(s) and QA had checked the fittings. All marks were aligned. Those two came from the factory a full ~1/8 turn or more loose and leaking. I am otherwise happy with the unit and it's performance.

Leaks
Do not buy this product, at least if you live in social with the water. I installed one a few years ago and it sprung a leak. I put in a water softener and in order to utilize the same piping configuration and not drop 5K on reconfigure, I bought the same model. First one I gave the benefit of the doubt due to the water. This second time though there's no excuse. It has been 8 months with good water and it's leaking all over the place. Don't do it.

Completely Unreliable
This water heater is non-functioning more than it’s working. Constant error codes and troubleshooting. Rheem customer service is helpful, but we have had so many showers ended early because the unit stopped working. Ad I have spent so many hours trying to fix everything that goes wrong. Stay away from any Rheem tankless product.

Worst purchase ever...
Installation was easy. That's the only good thing about this water heater. Repeated ignition error codes... replaced the igniter twice and the igniter module. Going back to a tank water heater... not a fan of sudden cold showers. Unfortunately, i did not purchase a warranty.
