Flawless and simple to install

Neither the older USB56KEM3 nor the newer USB56KEMH will work with Windows 8.1, period. Do not believe any assurances to the contrary, not from StarTech nor from Microsoft's compatibility website. The problem is the FXST30.dll file in Microsoft's Scan and Fax program included in Windows 8.1. For computer experts, there is a very complicated way of using the driver with the same name from Windows 7 in Windows 8.1; it is not for the faint-hearted as a mistake might render your computer inoperable. So, you can either return the modem or wait until Microsoft fixes its FXST30.dll driver in 8.1 (fix not available as of 4/12/14) or get fax software other than what Microsoft includes in Windows 8.1. I am amazed that neither StarTech nor Amazon warns about this problem. Customers will waste countless hours in absolutely futile efforts to get the modem to work in Windows 8.1. You can, however, use the modem with all previous versions of Windows.

Confirmed. This fax modem works with Mac OS X 10.11.2 (El Capitan) -- UNLIKE the $11 "Importer 520" ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0037ATHF4 )Plugged it in, and the modem was recognized.Go into printers and fax in system settings, click the "+" to add a new printer; it showed up in the list. I added it.After that, the "Fax PDF" option showed up in the "PDF" dropdown in the print dialog box...First fax (5 pages) worked flawlessly.Next fax (3 pages, different destination) failed twice, presumably because of bad handshaking. (first attempt never connected; second attempt never "finished" the 3rd page).Giving it 4 stars because I'm not 100% sure the failures were due to recipient's fax machine, or this modem.

This is a POS. Hardware does not work. Software does not work. Save your money and your time. Don't buy this product.

Gave me a fax modem in a laptop that had none. Works perfect with Windows 10.

I purchased this for a purpose and it has performed that purpose. Is it terrific or not terrific it does what I needed.

There are no driver for Windows 8 & 8.1 on CDEven on Home page, there are drivers up to Windows 7 only!

Working great with the fax program provided with Microsoft Office. No complaints!

Startech USB56KEMH is promoted on their website and several times directly by technical advisers as being Windows 10 compliant. When I received and after much communication with Startech it turns out not to be compliant and I can't be sure if an updated driver will ever be available.Not of much use.

La mejor elección para el que necesite un Modem USB y tenga un portátil o tablet. Es muy rápido y funcional.

Having trolled the internet for a relatively inexpensive fax/modem to be used for the one purpose of being able to send/receive facsimiles on my all-in-one desktop PC I was becoming certain that I wouldn't find a product that was compatible with Windows 8.1I then came across this unit which was slightly more than I wanted to pay but according to most of the reviews would work. I was therefore extremely pleased to discover that it installed automatically with no issues whatsoever. It also has, unlike some of the cheaper units on offer, a fully serviced website for ongoing technical support. Thoroughly recommended.

Non capisco le recensioni negative per questo prodotto; in Window7 si installa automaticamente appena inserito nella presa Usb, se si è connessi ad Internet scarica automaticamente i driver da Window Update senza nessun intervento da parte dell'utente ed è immediatamente disponibile. Subito dopo ho provato ad inviare un Fax piuttosto oneroso in fatto di pagine e immagini e l'invio è stato perfetto e alla massima velocità possibile (14.400 baud)! Testato anche su Windows 8.1 su un tablet Acer Transformer e tutto è andato liscio. Prodotto da consigliare.
