Legendary G-Shock awesomeness!!
It's hard to begin a review about an item that I love so much. If you would like the history of the G-Shock brand that begins all the way back from 1983, here's the official link:[...]Now, about this specific model the DW6900-1V is a model that has been around since the early 2000's and is considered to be an entry level unit in the G-Shock family of products. Here are the official specs from the casio website:Shock Resistant200 Meter Water ResistantEL Backlight with AfterglowFlash AlertFlashes with buzzer that sounds for alarms, hourly time signal, countdown timer time-up alarm1/100 second stopwatchMeasuring capacity: 00’00”00-59’59”99 (for the first 60 minutes)1:00’00-23:59’59 (after 60 minutes)Measuring unit: 1/100 second (for the first 60 minutes)1 second (after 60 minutes)Measuring mode: Elapsed time, split time, 1st-2nd place timesCountdown timerMeasuring unit: 1 secondCountdown range: 24 hoursCountdown start time setting range: 1 second to 24 hours(1-second increments, 1-minute increments and 1-hour increments)Other: Auto-repeatMulti-function alarmHourly time signalFull auto-calendar (pre-programmed until the year 2039)12/24 hour formatsAccuracy: +/- 15 seconds per monthBattery CR2016Approx. battery life: 2 yearsModule 1289/3230I have always been the guy that never wanted to spend a ton of money on a watch. Part of the reason is because I have a job where my watch was prone to constant damage and bruising. So like many folks I would go to Walmart and pickup a 15 dollar watch every year. I was going through watches at about that rate. Until about 2 years ago I saw a UPS driver wearing a G-shock watch (not the DW6900, but a different model). He went on to tell me all about the watch and how much he loved everything about it. From the design, to how well it fits on his wrist, but the most important aspect of all which is how durable, touch, and well built the watch is.So after listening to him, I decided to purchase this G-shock and have never looked back. Everything about this watch is amazing. Simple in functions compared to more upscale G-Shocks, but for me that's a plus. I don't need to know sea levels or faces of the moon. I just need a timer for daily tasks and a Chronometer for exercise. Plus this watch has a fantastic feature that many digital watches no longer have, even the upscale time pieces: The feature is that no matter which watch mode you are in, the time is always displayed on the upper right portion of the screen. This may seem small in importance, but believe me when you get started using the watch you will wonder how you managed without the function in the first place. It makes it so convenient to not have to switch between modes just to know what time is it. I find it very strange how this function is not available on most digital watches now...The only two minor complaints that I have about this watch are: 1-) If you have small wrists you may prefer the smaller model 5600 which is the all time classic still available, and fits much better on smaller wrists. 2-) The "G" imprint on the light button is not colored... Again this is a small dislike that to others may not think it is. In my opinion Casio could have colored it red for an extra 3 cents on the cost of the watch if that...To wrap up the review, for the price of this watch there is no better watch out there. This watch will go through hell and back with you. You may not be as tough as this watch is. It is standard issue for many military and law enforcement agencies around the world. Here's a link to Google pictures of military units wearing g-shocks all over the world, thanks:[...]

The REAL "Special Forces" watch.
I have always been a big fan of G-Shock watches, since Casio already makes an incredible watch for a great price, but the G-Shocks take it to another level. I bought two G-Shocks after graduating from boot camp back in 2010. This particular one is just now getting replaced, and the other one is still going somehow. Aside from one minor change, this is exactly how I remember it being.PROSBattery life is insane, and far exceeds the estimated lifespan. I believe when I bought my first DW6900, I believe the manual said that the battery life should be about 7 years. I don't know what I did to it, but mine lasted almost 15 years. I have another model that is still going from 2010.They're rugged without compromising comfort. The straps take a bit of breaking in to get the stiffness out, but once that's done, you barely even know it's there. This is light and comfortable enough that I wear this to bed, in the shower, while swimming, basically 24/7. There's rarely a time when I'm NOT wearing this watch. These keep time with extreme precision. After about a week of wear, I have gained about .25 seconds when compared to my phone clock, since when I set the time on my watch, I made sure everything down to the second was synced up. This may result in needing to make a minor adjustment a couple times a year, but maybe not even then.I know a lot of people like the inverted, fully black display, but I prefer the standard screen that this watch has, I find it a lot easier to read quickly. I also find that when backlit, this display is far easier to read in the dark than the inverted display.CONSI believe my old DW6900 had a steel buckle, and this new one is plastic. If that's the case, it's a bit disappointing that the price of the watch has gone up a bit, but they've changed out a metal part for a plastic part. Having said that, the buckle is easy enough to change out for a steel one.VERDICTThere's a reason that, despite all these watch brands that claim they're "Special Forces rated watches", the only one I know of that is actually used by most American special forces is the G-Shock, specifically the DW6900. They trust this watch because it's easily affordable, it keeps time with precision and accuracy, it can stay on someone's wrist without irritation for weeks on end, and it can take a serious beating and keep going. My last DW6900 survived firefighting trainers, tear gas, two deployments, and so much more. I am looking forward to the adventures I'll have with this watch on my wrist!

Bargain watch, great appearance and functionality, with the Casio 'G-Shock' imprimatur
Great watch and what a bargain it is.Casio first introduced the 'G-Shock' brand with their 1983 GW-5000C model (today's Casio G Shock GW-5000-1JF is practically the same thing), famously designed by a Casio engineer around the 'triple ten' concept: 10 year battery life, water resistant to 10 bar, and survive a 10m fall. Remember the television commercials, where the Casio watch is struck by a hockey stick and slammed into the net (and keeps on ticking...)?Today, the G-Shock brand continues, with a multitude of variations and styles, all rugged and providing different combinations of digital display, chronograph type functions, water and shock resistance, and more.Frankly I purchased this simply to see if I would like wearing a watch of this style. I'm pleasantly surprised to find that I like wearing it, it's comfortable, and I like the styling. A lot.I selected this particular model because it was (at the time) the least expensive G-Shock model sold on Amazon. There are one or two others close to it in price, and then there are models that are much more expensive. All the way to several hundreds of dollars for the latest, fanciest and most limited edition models. There are people who collect these things and keep track of all things G-Shock, track the variations on web sites and blogs. It's developed into quite the product line for Casio, but what I like is that the inherent ruggedness and functionality of the watches has still been preserved. Even if the watches are now all** made in China (** there are a couple of high-end models still manufactured in Japan, but only a couple as far as I've been able to determine). This has a very legible display that shows date and time, along with the expected features of stopwatch and alarm. I haven't made use of the other features but they are not difficult to use if desired. The display can be briefly illuminated at night time by pressing the gray button just below the display. This watch does the job for me. I'm 100% satisfied. I'll probably buy another, either to get a slightly different style for some variety, or even just to have a backup in case I damage or lose this one. Or to give as gifts. The season is approaching, after all.

Nicer than expected
I thought this men’s Casio G-Shock Watch was perfect for what my son was needing it for. He had a timex for years until it recently died and it was more of a dress watch and he needs something for everyday work. He is in construction, out doors most days and was in the military so I know he uses all the other little gadgets that come with it. When I sent it to him (he lives in another state from me) he was very thankfull and said quite a few times how much he loved it and was able to use it right away. He said it was not hard to set, it is comfortable on his wrist (he has big arms and wrist he is a big man) and said it keeps time very acccuratly comparing to his phone. It is water resistant to a degree. It can get a little wet whle washing your hands and dry it right away but I wouldn’t submerge it. I don’t think sweat is going to do any harm to it. I thought it looked very nice on his wrist when he sent me a photo and the size of the face is good for his size wrist and arm, not too large or small. The length of the band for him just fit so a man any bigger may have to swap out the band but he is a big guy at 6’ and about 249. I am glad he liked this watch that I feel carries a good brand name (Casio) and has proved in the past since my husband owned one for years and never had any issues with it. The black outer face and band are very nice too.

A great daily G-Shock/Watch
This watch has everything that one could need in a daily watch.Things I like:1. It has an alarm, stop clock, and a countdown timer. I know that it may not have dual time but sometimes it's good that it doesn't have that if you do not need it. But what's great is that there are other G-Shocks that offer dual time.2. This watch looks/feels beefy but not overly beefy. It does look like it can take a couple good hits and survive.3. The price. $54 for a watch with more features and more durable than a couple thousand dollar luxury watch? Yes please!4. Set up and changing the times are pretty easy. Though I would recommend watching a Youtube video.5. Easy to mod. If you are not a fan of the color of the bezel and strap, you can go on eBay or other website and buy cheap mod parts and change the watch to match your style.Things I do not like:1. The only thing I am not a fan of are the 3 circles above the time that show the seconds. They could have removed it and made the display bigger so the numbers are bigger and/or show more information.Other than the 1 thing I do not like, it is a great daily watch for both the outdoor and even the office.

Solid Watch for $40
So I'll start with the Positive and then list the negatives.PositivesA good watch for the price. I work for a general contractor as an engineer and do some office work and some field work. I have definitely given the watch it's fair share of bumps and beatings and it is still in good shape. About as good as when I bought it other than some scratches on the plastic and screen. I have shot shotcrete, and bumped it on steel crawling up and down steel structures, caught it on rebar and tie wire and bumped it up against concrete. I've also had it submerged in water doing dishes and swimming. Durability wise it's a good watch. I bought it in late 2009 or early 2010 and I haven't had to change the battery in it yet. I also like the light. Very helpful when you work in tunnels with very little light and you are trying to do a time study. The wrist band is like a plastic/rubber material and it latches like a belt does. Which is good incase it ever got caught on some moving equipment it should rip the watch off before it drags your hand into the equipment and rips your arm off.NegativesIt is pretty thick. It catches on shirts when putting them on or taking them off. Like I said it snagged on rebar and tie wire when I was surveying and performing layout. If you're looking for a watch with a million features this one is fairly basic. It has the date and time and gives you the day of the week. Along with a few other features like stop watch, count down, single alarm.Hopefully this helps.

Great Watch!
Love the looks of this watch; rugged and simple. You could say I'm upgrading to this from a GW500A. Reason is because I bought the GW500A in 2008 and in 2010 the battery started dying on me. The thing is it's solar powered and figured I'd never have to buy batteries again. Unfortunately I was wrong and found out it used rechargeable batteries that do tend to die out. The battery was going to cost $20 and up (CTL1616). And to pay that much every two years or whenever it dies, just didn't appeal to me. I also tried non rechargeable CR1616 as a replacement but it started dying again after 4 months. So I decided to look for a non solar g shock and found this. The batteries are cheap too; under $4 (CR2016). The other G-Shocks were too expensive, didn't look as great to me and/or just had features I didn't need.Anyway onto this watch. Looks and feels great. Not too light, decent weight to it and doesn't feel cheap in my opinion. The casing definitely feels like it will do it's job protecting this thing, as most of them do I'm sure. I like the dials on top. The first two on the left represent 5 seconds (each), and the third represents every 10 seconds.Pros:-The digital layout looks nice, numbers have a nice font to them.-Just have to easily push the adjust button to adjust settings, not hold it.-Alarm buzzer with light flash is catchy (can be turned off).-Alarm buzzes for 20 seconds.-Countdown Timer. Some of these aren't really cons (to me anyway) but just a heads up for future buyers:-Strap latch and buckle are plastic. Seems durable though.-Adjust button is a little packed in there compared to the other buttons. Safety feature I suppose.-Only one alarm (a snooze feature would have been nice). Although there are different alarm types: daily, specific date, 1 month alarm, and a monthly alarm.-Year doesn't show (just day and month + day of the week) unless you're in adjust mode, but not a big issue.-No automatic EL Illuminator, but you can hold the light button for as long as you want and it stays on until you let go. Stays on for 2 seconds once let go.And last, this is actually a con to me and an annoying thing, when you're adjusting settings and you pass up a number you wanted, you can't go back. Just have to move forward until you hit that preferred number again.Overall I think it's a great watch and worth the buy. If you're looking for a simple watch with good looks and will last for years, I see no problem in getting this.UPDATE: 5/24/12It has officially been a year now and the watch is still working like it was before! Been through the usual everyday wear and tear, doused in gasoline at one point, and the battery still works great. Although, a few months into it, the beeping all together stopped. So I popped open the case and it turns out the spring was just a little bent and wouldn't make contact with the crystal. I simply just flipped it around and all was well again! Great watch!

It’s Old-School G-Shock
It’s a sturdy watch, period; it will take a beating and go to hell and back. It ain’t fancy, doesn’t have all the latest features - but it tells time, keeps the day and date, has an alarm, a stopwatch and a timer. That right there is what people need a watch for better than 95% of the time.It looks big in the pictures but is actually one of my smaller G-Shocks, very light, and the wavy strap design is great for letting air in and keeps it secure yet loose (wearing a watch too tight results in some real funk building up on your skin from sweating and sloughing old, dead skin cells). The electroluminescent backlight is perfect - highly visible and makes the face easy to read at night.Read the booklet it comes with - there’s a few little tweaks they did on this watch that some of my expensive, fancier watches don’t have, especially with the alarm and timer, like making the timer auto-repeat, making the alarm go off on a specific date of the month each month, or making an alarm also triggers the backlight, etc.Fun fact: this is sometimes called the “Mission Impossible 2” watch - Tom Cruise’s character, Ethan Hunt, is wearing a modified version of it (mostly just removed the branding and button labels) when he infiltrated the office building to steal the Chimera virus. His version triggered a tracking device - yours never will! One more thing: it’s never a good idea, even with a rugged watch like this one, to take it into a hot shower or a Jacuzzi. Heat causes the metal backing to expand and can cause water leakage. It’s waterproof to 200 meters of static pressure, yeah, but not heat-proof! For anything else involving getting wet, take it with you and have a blast - it’ll still tell you the time when you’re done.

Quite happy with this budget G-Shock.
This was a heckuva deal at $70 CAD and I couldn’t be happier with it. Your basic everyday indestructible watch. Super easy to figure out the functions. Very comfy and solidly built, much larger in body than how it feels on my wrist. Has an alarm but doesn’t have many bells and whistles. Does not come in the usual G-Shock tin though sadly. Shipped fast in a small box.

Iconic old school DW-6900
Order received in good condition. Delivery time was relatively fast. Got a very good price on Amazon prime day. Wanted to get a GW-6900, but the price for it wasn't attractive. Got this DW-6900 for less than USD35 after voucher code & free shipping across the globe. I'm happy with this classic model purchase.
