Clinical Practice Manual for Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine

High-yield case-based clincal pearls, excellent book
This is an excellent, clinically-focused guide to pulmonary and intensive care medicine. Covers all the basics with abundant high-quality illustrative figures and cases. Great for the intended audience of house-staff, med students, NP/PA, ICU RNs, RTs firming up their ICU knowledge. The author describes this as a readable description of all the things he wishes he knew when he was a younger doctor, and I think that theme shines through. The pearls that he describes come from experience, and are very practical/actionable to your practice. Does not dwell excessively on critical-care literature and evidenced-based medicine in critical care, which is not to say that it is not evidence based. Instead of debating subtitles of trial design and controversies in critical care, this book focuses on simpler questions of what do do with the patient in front of you. The gist of this book is the answer to the question: "If I had 20 years of experience in the ICU, how would I approach this common problem".I enjoyed:case based presentation with wonderful figuresthe best focused ICU chest radiology review I have foundsmall form-factor (lab coat pocket sized) for quick referenceenjoyed it equally to Marin's classic "the ICU book". Landsberg's work is much superior to the Washington manual of critical care and various other critical care guides on the market. would strongly recommend to ICU health care team members and students.

Get the Kindle e-Book!
Ok, yes - the content of this book is excellent. It is practical and far less dry than similar works, and if you were thinking to spend a few bucks on a book (I often buy books so I can feel like I'm learning without really reading) for God's sake's buy this instead of another useless Ventilator Book. However, be forewarned - the best parts of it are in the flow diagrams and figures - all in super teeny tiny font. So - unless you have superpeepers and since its 2019 (no one carries around pocket books anyway and you are likely shopping for this on your phone or tablet) allow me to encourage you to get the kindle-e-version. It's cheaper and you can easily doubletap and expand the figures/text to actually read them. If you are a Fellowship/Residency Director and wanna leave a copy in the call room (next to the computer with UptoDate on it) - fine, otherwise, be awesome and buy the e-book today. Did I mention it's a good book? Yes - it's a good book - Asaf Presente MD PhD PCCM ;)The 25th Review!

The perfect pocket textbook for clinicians of all stages
Extremely valuable for both pulmonologists and intensivists of all stages (from trainees to experienced physicians). I am a junior faculty member and since receiving this book one week ago, I have used it almost every day. The chapters focus on nearly all major pulmonary and critical care topics, and are very easy to read and comprehensive. In fact, I have found this book easier to read and understand than nearly all other PCCM resources available.Aspects that I love so far (after my first week of owning this book):- Bulleted insights and information mixed in with algorithmic approaches to various topics- A conversational tone which makes the reader feel as if they are on rounds with a master clinician- The book is small enough in size to easy carry in your bag or in a large coat pocket.- The pictures really hit home certain key concepts5/5 stars and HIGHLY recommend to all physicians looking for a good resource on pulmonary and critical care medicine!

Fantastic ICU and Pulmonary Pocket Book
Overall great book for interns, residents, fellows, and faculty.- Each subject is a quick but comprehensive read, his book covers etiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment.- Easy to follow algorithms.- Expertconsult.com has great high res pictures in his book (very helpful in the ILD/DPLD chapter).- Small and light, easy to carry with you on on the wards/ICU/clinic.- Debunks tons of medical myths.- Has tons of very relevant and commonly seen cases in the book.- Sections are easy to learn, then teach back to interns/residents.- Really helps take care of the patient in front you - without getting bogged down in trial details/design, etcThanks Dr. Landsberg!

Great book
Great succinct info for a newly starting out inpatient pulmonary nurse practitioner. But oddly it does have a bunch of typos in it (mostly punctuation and spelling errors)

Excellent, high-yield, must-have book for any practitioner in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine
Practical, extremely high-yield, and appropriate/relevant for a wide audience - from med students to attending physicians, from NP/PAs to RTs. Great presentation of topics with bulleted points, algorithms, and imaging and clinical cases that drive home the intended teaching points. Clearly written by a master clinician with an engaging style and overflowing with teaching pearls, I found reading this manual to be very unique from other textbooks and literature in the field. The size of the book, which fits easily into your coat pocket, reemphasizes that this manual is extremely usable and is intended to be applicable to your day-to-day practice. Well done.

Kinda ok
More a pamphlet than a book. Less content than I imagined. Misuse of units(mg/kg when expressing vent setting instead of the standard ml/kg) is a confidence buster. TV for tidal volume instead of the standard Vt. Unnecessarily small font sometimes, when there is plenty of blank space. Lazy layout crew at the publisher. Still, an obvious clinical expert

great review for current COVID crisis
I am mostly an oncologist now but volunteered to manage the COVID ward. This book is great concise review of the key details of managing ARDS as well as managing a ventilated patient. Recommend to anyone getting pressed into critical care or inpatient duty this isn't normally practicing in these areas. Last time I was working in an ICU was 7 years ago, but with this book ventilator management is just like riding a bike!

Precious handbook for the clinician
A must-have for pulmonologists , cardiologists and (why not) thoracic surgeons. A different approach beyond the known description of disease presentation in most of textbooks and handbooks.. An excellent development of clinical thinking.
