simplehuman Slim Kitchen Step Trash Can, 45 Liter, Brushed Stainless Steel with Plastic Lid

I wanted a slim, oval or rectangular shaped garbage can for my kitchen. I wanted a step on pedal and I wanted something that didn't have one of those terribly annoying inner plastic rings that you have to try to fit the bag around and then put into the can. This definitely fit the bill! It's the perfect size, step on works great and seems to be pretty sturdy. The standard costco 13 gallon bags (with the drawstring) fit perfectly around the top without any fuss! It's 1 gallon smaller than the bags and most cans of its type, but we don't really notice. We've only had for about 2 weeks, but it seems to be very sturdy. I wish I didn't have to pay $70 for this garbage can (never thought I'd spend that much on a container to hold garbage!), but for this size, shape and feature, it was really my only option. All the other slim models were the "automatic" kind which we didn't want. I would recommend! Hopefully it will last a very long time for the price, only time will tell.

I can't believe I spent this much on a trashcan. I felt a bit silly. However, I had to find a slim can that had a lid (I don't like those automatic open/close features--they are forever needing battery changes). We recently downsized and our new kitchen is about 10' X 8'. I have no under-counter space that's big enough to house any type of "real" trashcan. Que the simplehuman 45 litre slim step. This trashcan takes up very little space and when the lid's closed, there is absolutely no odor that escapes it (e.g., used kitty litter & real "garbage"). I love the fact that the liners tuck neatly under the lip of the lid, which makes the kitchen look very buttoned up. I am truly impressed with this brand and its design. I even bought the liners after using the samples that came with the can. They're expensive but they're very tough and well constructed so we actually save time and money since we use a lot fewer than we used to. This is a wonderful trashcan that's worth its weight in gold!

My 13 gallon sensor trash receptacle of 5 years is showing signs of malfunction. The lid won't close fully, sensor delay, etc. I thought of investing another motion sensor but I don't want to go through "lid not closing" problem again. I know nothing lasts forever, but I do want it to last longer.. Step Trash Can comes close second to being "touchless". Time and usage will tell.Pro:1. Anti-fingerprint magnet body2. Matte finish lid.3. Came with sample trash liners4. Lid fully opens (and stays open) at a 90° angle (can be a CON). Great if you need it to stay open.5. Wide opening6. Slim. Excellent for tight spaces.Con:1. Lid stays open if stepped on the pedal fully. You will have to manually close the lid by lightly tugging it to close.2. Pedal is slightly difficult to operate if one wants the lid to open halfway.3. Because of its narrow sleek design, throwing trash needs a methodical approach. For instance, when discarding the contents from a plate/chopping board, you will need to be on its side to be able to discard everything inside the bin and not accidentally landing or spilling outside the bin.The CON really isn't a big deal. Just something new to adapt.

I like the sleekness and the soft close lid, I also like the smudge proof stainless steel and black lid. I like the can holds more than our previous can and in a tighter space.The bags that come with the can stay on the edge of the can and don’t fall in, however, trying to save money by purchasing generic 13 gallon bags I find they fall in every time. I will need to fine either a larger bag or see if an elastic made for trash bags will keep it in place.

Previously I purchased a stainless trashcan from Walmart. Since it was $20 to $30 less, I figured I was being financially savvy and that the quality couldn't be that different. I was completely wrong. This trash can is worth every dollar. I feel weird taking the time to write a review of a trashcan, but I swear, this one is worth it. Every detail is well thought out.The slow close on the lid means that trashcan has a quiet and smooth operation. If you get it back from the wall about 2 inches, it won't bang into anything while you are using it. It has a slip proof coating on the bottom, so it doesn't slip around when you are pushing the step lever and slide back into the wall making those trashcan wall markings. Place it where you want it, and it will stay there through the use.Getting the the trash out of the sub par can I brought before this one was a sure test of brute strength. Trash in would create a vacuum and it was horrible to change the bag. BUT NOT WITH THIS CAN!! There is a hole on the side that lets air in, so pulling out full bags is super easy and quick and you don't risk ripping the handles off your bags.Speaking of bags, it comes with a sample of the N simplehuman liners, but honestly, Hefty force flex work better, hold more, and are far cheaper than their special bags. While you can get auto ship through simplehuman, you can also get auto ship trashbags here on Amazon, so it isn't worth the price increase. Your quality name brand standard tall 13 gallon bags will work perfectly in this can. Another bonus is that you can actually put 10 or so empty bags in the bottom of this can and make the bag changes even faster rather than fishing under the cabinet to get the new bags.This is a fabulous trash can. If you are thinking about getting another can because this one is pricey, don't. Get this can now. Don't be like me and have to then come back and get this one later. Save your money. Get this trashcan.
