Had to bend it to get it into the frame however once in it fit exactly as it should have. It does keep everything in one place however once in it will take you a bit to get it out if you want to add stuff to your boat again later.It is not waterproof and if you have some water in the hull it will soak it up seep into whatever you put in the compartment. I'd recommend you put stuff in a ziplock or other waterproof container in the hatch. color matched my wifes view on the kayak so much I had to replace all the bungies with Orange ones.
