The Girl who dies - and lives
Originally introduced by Junji Ito in a running series of sorts and later collected in twice (the latest is in the Museum of Terror books), Tomie has been one of those great reading pleasures. She's the girl you want to have, love to have, and feel with all of your body. She's horrible to you, though, and she makes you want to do horrid things. The worrst has been when someone has opted to turn her to pulp and keep going because, well, she comes back. She kept coming back and kept coming back, too, and that made a great set-up for movies along the same lines. The difference here is that some of them are great and some are not. That's why you really want a set like this to keep you going in the right direction. In this you get Tomie, Tomie: Another Face, Tomie: Replay, Tomie: Rebirth, and Tomie: Forbidden Fruit. Some of these are really, reall good and some of them are not-so-great but all of them have one key to them. They all have a girl in them that doesn't seem to live a long life, and the mystery of this girl deepens. In the first Tomie you really get a great picture of what is going on, with the first set of "victims" being seen in glimpses. This HAS to be my favorite because some horrible stuff happens here and some interesting movie notions come out on the screen.I personally liked all of it together but do not like it seperated because tie-ins come in a lot. also, you can follow the graphic depictions of the book Tomie as you go through the stories, making it come to life more. As a WHOLE, I give this 5 stars because of value and because of what is here. If you need to know about the individual components, each is available here and you can check them all out. A lot changes through each and, honestly, each has to be treated so seperately that reviewing it all waters down the over-all theme you are working with.

Five movies all same plot :(
Ok so as far as Japanese horror goes for this series of movies there really isn't much in the way of horror. For any who are not familiar with Tomie it's about a beautiful young girl who all the guys who come in contact with her immediately fall in love and become obsessed with Tomie. So obsessed that if they can't have her they kill her. When she dies she resurrects and the same people fall in love with her when they see her and just repeats the cycle over again. It's pretty much the exact same plot over and over again, nothing really changes at all. Tomie "Another Face" seems like it was made for a T.V. series that didn't seem to go anywhere with the plot at all. If you're looking for scare factor I do not recommend this at all. Tomie Rebirth had a couple scenes that could possibly make you jump but really no scare factor. On top of all this the five movies that you get with this collection isn't infact the "complete" collection. There are two more called "Tomie the Beginning" and "Tomie's Revenge" and they're impossible to find unless you want to go to a convention and buy them at a rediculous high price or order them off of EBay to look for these. Tomie the Beginning actually explains how Tomie is able to ressurect herself but is really just more or less the exact same plot and takes place just before the first Tomie movie. I gave this 2 stars only because the first one was really the only good one and the rest is like de ja vu. I've only watched these once and will probably not watch these again or if I do it'll probably be only the first one.

Tomie Lives!!!
Very good demon story. It is VERY slow paced, but I enjoy "the build up" as well. Many sequels ensure much pleasure.

Tomie, the demon who hunts men
This collection tells the story of Tomie, a demon in the form of a human female. She has an nearly irresistible power over men, damning them to Hell either by killing her or by killing for her. And when she is dead, she comes back again, to prey on more men.Watching the entire collection fills in a lot of gaps left by any one film. The most mysterious is the first, Tomie, which leaves many questiona as to her purpose and desires unanswered. The second film, which appears to have been originally made for Japanese TV, Tomie: Another Look, is a trilogy of stories that shows the different ways Tomie has power over men, and answers some of the questions raised in the first. In Tomie: Replay, the true sequel to Tomie, a six year-old girl is rushed to hospital with a distended abdomen. During surgery, they discover the head of Tomie gestating inside the child. Removed, it grows into a full woman, while the hospital workers present to see the event disppear mysteriously. In this one we learn more about how Tomie can affect her victims through infection as well as through her wiles. In Tomie: Rebirth, Tomie returns to her usual form, multiplying through possession and being killed. In Tomie: Forbidden Fruit, Tomie takes a lesbian turn, the first real sign that she has power over women as well as men. When you see the first Tomie, your response is likely to be "HUH?" But if you stick with the series, it does start to make sense. Which is reasonable, seeing as the movies are drawn from a much larger storehouse of horror comics by Junji Ito. Some people love Tomie, and some hate the movies, but this collection gives the whole tale a chance to be told, and you can make up your mind from there.

Before you buy, a bit of research is needed
A genre of it's own. Sub-titled, not dubbed... which takes away the surprise effect. Not really horrific. J-Horror may not be for everyone. Slasher fans will dislike this one. Very slow-pacedm there is an Artsy feel to the product. Let remind evryone that Tomie is major player in the J-horror world, but for some reason, it did not do anything for me.At 28$, it is a great deal, but do a bit of research before buying. The Tomie adventures are available on several multi-disk packages.
