Define your individual style. With their colorful leaves, sculptural shapes, and simple care, succulents are beautiful yet forgiving plants for pots. If grown in containers, these dry-climate jewels—which include but are not limited to cacti—can be brought indoors in winter and so can thrive anywhere in the world. In this inspiring compendium, the popular author of Designing with Succulents provides everything beginners and experienced gardeners need to know to create stunning container displays of exceptionally waterwise plants. The extensive palette includes delicate sedums, frilly echeverias, cascading senecios, edgy agaves, and fat-trunked beaucarneas, to name just a few. Easy-to-follow, expert tips explain soil mixes, overwintering, propagation, and more. Review: easy and interesting - I recieved my book and have only briefly looked over it but I was very pleased. I was able to quickly look up questions I had and the author had enough information for me to use. The author gives example that a beginner like myself can use or more advanced succulent gardener could appreciate. The photos are beautiful and generous throughout the whole book. I was really happy with this purchase and would recomend it. This book insn't so much of a "how too", so if your looking for step by step, look elsewhere. The title of this book doesnt suggest it's a how too, i just want to help any buyers to know what their getting. This would be a nice gift. The ideas in this book are creative and inspiring!! AAA's all around from me. Review: Good gardening in pots with succulents book! - This is an excellent book on showcasing succulents. The photography alone is worth the price of the book. I understand the author takes the photos herself. Having said that, this isn't a how to book; it's more about setting up gardens, primarily in pots but also has some emphasis on outdoor gardens. There is a section on care and lists in the back of which succulents need sun or will survive in less light, etc. Ms. Baldwin has written many books on succulents and I'm hard pressed to decide which to buy next. I found one here at desertcart a couple day ago by her that is more about care of succulents so perhaps I'll get it next. I understand her fascination with succulents as they come in so many different shapes, sizes and even some colors such as blue. Many will bloom. They are not water hogs so they will mind their own business if one travels for a week and leaves them to their own devices. Overwatering is the worst thing one can do to a succulent or cactus. Great book.

Trust Me, Buy the Hard Copy
This is an awesome book on container gardening. Ms. Baldwin accepted the challenge of demystifying succulents and how to grow them. And she did a wonderful job! She starts off by pairing plants with various pot types and styles. From there she talks about the many types of succulents along with some companion plants to consider. At the same time, you can see colorful photos with crisp detail. If you are a visual person like me, I can't say enough good things about the importance of well-developed pictures. She talks about displaying your plants, the proper care and, lastly, she gives you some wonderful plant lists. If you are ever considering growing this family of plants, I would tell you to consider investing in the hard copy. It is money well-spent; you will get much use from this book.

Beautiful Book
I really like this book, it's so fun to look at. It has amazing pictures! It doesn't give information on care but has great pictures and has given me a lot of great ideas for how to show case my plants. If anything just buy it for the pictures. This is one of those books that would go great on a coffee table.

Another Debra Lee Baldwin masterpiece on succulents
Debra Lee Baldwin introduced the world to the vast, beautiful, entertaining and creative world of succulents with her first book, Designing With Succulents, in 2007. Using the ideal climate of San Diego, CA as her setting, she explored hundreds of gardens to showcase succulents in outdoor settings. In this second book Debra shrunk those garden design concepts to container size, enabling those who live in colder climes to enjoy miniature versions of these fabulous Mediterranean-style gardens in their homes and on their summer patios. Filled with hundreds of photos and ideas, plus all the growing tips you need to make your own succulent container gardens, this book is a gem.

Best of all cacti-succulents garden books
I have many Cacti-succulents books. but the finest yet is Debera lee Baldwin's book, Succulent Container Gardens. Her design With Succulents is excellent also. since water is problem, I have decided to convert my back garden to a south-west type garden, using her stunning three tier fountain on page 153 filled with succulents of many colors and textures in the cracked fountain that I almost gave away. This will be the focal point of the twelfth hundred square feet formally grass area. from that, I will use other photos in her book to create mini Garden in the surrounding area. In another photo I saw dymondia ground cover page 135, which can be walked on for other areas, which almost looks painted on. You see, you can design the entire using her container photos, just plant directly in the ground rather then a container. I attended her slide presentation Malibu,CA, the closest of her presentation to where I live. She is very generous with her time in answering our questions. This is the way to do a (do-it-yourself in) garden in this precarious economy. Go For It!

This book is a great buy for any succulent lover
This book is a great buy for any succulent lover. It is a great book for novice or a more experienced succulent collector. The information is excellent and the photos are very enticing. I got many ideas for plantings and design of my containers. There is good information on plant care and combinations that work well together. My book is already full of Post It's and dog eared pages. I would buy this again and plan on giving one as a gift to a fellow succulent enthusiast.

Wow! Lots of beautiful ideas here!
A great book for cactus and succulent lovers! Even my friends who don't understand English have gotten a lot of ideas just from the pictures. Full of color photos and lots of information, a great book for those who don't want to be watering every day during the long hot dry summer. Now if I could just find some of those beautiful flower pots she shows in the photos!
