Great little kit but beware of defective items
I bought this for my elderly father. This is a very nice combination set.The 12v drill is very peppy and has quite a bit of power. It is a great alternative to the larger, heavier 18v drills. And it is strong enough to handle most jobs. The saw works well for plywood and 1x3s. You cannot use it on a 2X4. It came in handy right away.Neither of these tools are going to build a house, but they are great to use for smaller jobs. They are perfect for my dad who has limited strength. The batteries won't last a very long time on a charge, but they are great for small jobs. The kit comes with two, so you can power both tools or keep one in the charger. The case is a very nice addition. It is roomy enough for the tools, accessories and other items if you choose. I previously bought just the saw for myself because I have an 18v Makita drill, but I wish now I had gotten this combination set instead. The small drill is a great size and the case a very nice bonus.Be aware, the first one we bought arrived in an unusual looking Makita case (not the classic fabric case but a shiny vinyl one that was off in color). At first I thought it was just a weird variation on the case, but when we used the tools, the batteries were next to impossible to remove from the tool. The plastic on the battery cases was oddly stiff and squeaky. I already have the saw, and so I knew this wasn't typical. I had to return it because there was no way my father could use the tools like that. The exchange item was what I originally expected, in the typical fabric case and the tools worked just fine. I don't know if the first one was an counterfeit product, a bad manufacturing run, or an outdated product that was sent the first time.

perfect size, power, and weight, for simple around the house use
Yes, there are larger battery, longer lasting, more powerful, tools, but the Makita 12-Volt max is a great balance of power, size, and weight. The drill has plenty of power for all the household duties I've attempted, and the saw makes quick work of small cuts. The battery charger works fast, and the included carrying case is nicely constructed, with plenty of space for extra things. I haven't used the holster for the drill, but everything else has held up to my use.

Small size with decent performance
I have this set as well as the matching impact driver and have used them all in remodeling my home. The circular saw makes super smooth cuts on laminate counterparts and lasts longer when used properly...the base is precisely sized to take the guess work out of cutting a straight line. The drill is surprisingly powerful and two speed settings, keyless chuck and torque settings make it convenient and mighty handy. Batteries will be batteries, if you haven't used LiIon, when they die they just stop working but recharge times are short and you will have a fresh one by the time the next one dies. If you get your hands on the impact driver you're in for a treat...quick connect hex bits make for fast switching drilling and driving with the same tool. Impact feature will snap inferior screws but that's why the make torx head screws.

DEAR Makita - I'LL PAY MORE FOR USA MADE TOOLS (Japan & Germany OK too)
Very useful drill and A M A Z I N G little saw. The saw is a beast and has cut through everything I've tried with ease. The drill is so powerful and lightweight, I rarely use my 18V anymore. My first set was recently stolen so I just bought it again. Tasks were noticeably harder without these little work horses there to help. First set - Made in Japan, top quality, four years later going strong, even the batteries, Second set - Made in China, cheaper materials, cheaper bag, drill didn't seem as strong as the first and completely died three months to the day. Now I've gotta spend more $ on something I'm already disenchanted with. I didn't take all of the stars away because I still do love the saw. I just hope it will live through it's warranty period. If I get any push back on the exchange it will be the last Makita anything I buy.

I Thought Makita Was Supposed To Be A Good Quality Brand
I bought this to upgrade from my 10.8 volt Hitachi lithium drill, and to obtain a saw as well. Wow, was I disappointed! It has nowhere near the power of my Hitachi drill, and the battery life is terrible. I used it for small jobs around the house and the batteries still ran out. Wasn't strong enough to put a 3-inch screw into redwood; I had to use the Hitachi to finish the job. Guess I'll never buy Makita again.

Wimpy saw, great drill
I've owned this for several years now and I'm finally getting around to writing a review. I bought the kit because I wanted a small circular saw that I could bring to a work piece that was already in position. I'm disappointed in the saw's power. Any binding will stall the blade, cutting is slow. Also the blade spins at a low RPM. Maybe I was expecting too much, I was expecting a miniature circular saw that cut like it's bigger cousin, just smaller. Instead I feel like the saw is a toy. It hasn't got much use since I've owned it.On the other hand I LOVE the drill that came with it, hands down out the half dozen cordless drills I own it's my favorite by far. I don't drive screws with it, there are better tools for that, but as a hand drill for cabinetry and finish work it can't be beat. The weight, balance, size, power are perfect. Plus the battery lasts a long time and charges quickly. So while I consider the saw a bust I'm happy I have the drill. After the saw failed to fulfill it's intended mission it bought a Bosch multitool which has proved much more useful and I use all the time. I can get into tight spaces with it to make those hard to reach cuts. The Makita saw still get's pulled out from time to time, but only when it's the only tool that can get the job done, if I can go to another tool first I will.

Nice set
I bought this for my husband and he loved it so much I bought one for my son-in-law. The small saw is worth it's weight in gold. It's just the thing for a small job that needs a trim or a cut without dragging out all the stuff you need for a corded tool. And it's got surprising power! Both hold a charge for quite a while and comes with 2 batteries that quick charge. Bought this specifically for the saw as we didn't need the drill but it's become a favorite for it's easy to use size. Everyone that sees the saw wants one but I've never seen it sold separately. Best little tool out there

Excellent series of tools
Since I bought these two tools I use them more than anything else in my shop. They are lightweight, easy to handle and powerful enough for most of my needs (furniture, cabinets, household renos)
