The book may be on the expensive side but wow does it more than make up for it with great information, amazing photography, and it's written in a style that feels very human, not dry and clinical.The author did some amazing work in putting this together, he deserves a bit of your money. Trust me, you'll be better off with this book in your life.

Brian Hayes is such talented writer. When I received this book as a gift I started reading at the railway chapter. Once I finished that I went to the beginning of the book and read it cover to cover. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Well written and easy to understand for anyone even remotely interested in the infrastructure around them.

If you have only one book on infrastructure, this is the one to have.It is USA centric and other countries sometimes do things differently, but not so as it is a problem.It includes lots of pictures so you an identify things as you travel around.

I wanted this book for general use. The information is great consideration the frequency the " infrastructure" get tossed around.

I had to buy this book for a class on infrastructure. Usually, when I read textbooks, I read them for the sake of the course. However, this book is the exception. My teacher told me that this book had a dedicated photographer for all the pictures. There are TONS of high quality pictures in this book. It is great not only for a student, but for anybody who is actually interested in learning about the world around them. I actually read this to learn by own will, not because my teacher required me to. I plan on keeping this book for a long time because it is really neat. A must have!
