Excellent speed boost, well worth it
I had to do a bit of research to find out what the fastest possible cable connection would be for my Mac. I have a late 2011 iMac, which means either USB2 or thunderbolt. Once I learned the thunderbolt was going to be the fastest option, I had to find a thunderbolt (1 not 2) SSD drive. This transcend drive seemed to be popular and reported good speeds. It also just so happens that in the black friday sale, this item went on sale 33% off, which was a huge savings. I was going to settle for the 512gig one but since it was so reduced, I got the 1 gig. It was a great deal.Setup was easy, just plug it in with thunderbolt cable. Then I basically cloned my main OS X boot drive to it using a free tool - carbon copy cloner I think, set it as the boot drive, and rebooted. The boot up time was immensely faster. It now gets to the login screen in like 5-10 seconds, and fully booted to the desktop in another 5-10 seconds. This is compared to up to a couple of minutes previously. Write and read speeds are very good in the 300-400 range. Now, I didn't know what to expect in terms of how much this would speedup my computer, since its a file storage device not a computing device, but I was pleasantly surprised. For example, you might not think it would speed up internet browsing but it sure does.... safari is able to download and store files much faster. It's able to update caches and retrieve history and all that much faster. Apps also load and open almost instantly. At first it feels like you're cheating, as though all the apps are loaded from memory or something instead of from disk. Everything just opens so fast. Anything to do with files is way faster. e.g. opening a Finder window and going to my applications folder, it used to take several seconds to assemble all the icons etc and actually finish updating the display, now it seems almost instantaneous. I also use some larger software which takes a long time to load and it now loads very quickly. I did not realize, overall, just how much the hard drive was holding back the performance. If you have an older iMac, this is definitely a huge upgrade on performance for you.Occasionally I've been getting some temporary 'freezes' where the mouse cursor spins and things seem inoperable, as though *perhaps* the SSD is stuck or waiting to retrieve data or something... then it unsticks. I'm not sure if that's SSD related but it only started happening since the upgrade. Hopefully it won't be something that happens more frequently.Once installed and I was happy with the reliability and performance, I decided to wipe most of my original boot drive and turn it into a time machine backup. Since it's inside the computer and always 'on' it makes it a natural choice for creating backups of the SSD. You know, just in case.Overall very happy with this, I recommend it. I would not go with the USB option, it's much slower.

Speedy, but faster on usb 3 than thunderbolt
I recently bought a Mac Mini to replace my aging MacBook Pro and bought this external drive to supplement the limited solid state drive space in the Mini. I already had a 256GB solid state internal drive that I placed in a usb 3 enclosure to use for storing photos but thought that the thunderbolt drive would be faster than the usb 3 drive I cobbled together. I was both right and wrong. The drive looks quite nice, feels solid when held in my hand and was already formatted with OS X. I plugged it in using the included thunderbolt cable and did some testing. It was much faster than my older usb 3 solid state drive but did not approach what I thought should be its speed based on the thunderbolt standards. Out of curiosity I loaded up the (free) Black Magic speed test and did some testing of all of my external drives as well as the internal ssd in my Mini and the results surprised me. All speeds are in MB/s using the 5GB stress setting in Black Magic. See below the data for an more detailed explanation as to what these speeds represent.Device Read Speed/ Write SpeedInternal ssd: 715/734usb 3 ssd: 267/ 240Transcend 1: 419/299Transcend 2: 384/299usb 3 drive: 69/66Internal ssd is the built-in ssd in the Mac Miniusb 3 ssd is an internal ssd placed into a usb 3 enclosureTranscend 1 is this Transcend drive connected using the usb 3 connectionTranscend 2 is this Transcend drive connected using the thunderbolt connectionusb 3 drive is a new physical usb 3 drive (as compared to an ssd)There are several very surprising results, at least to me:The usb 3 connection on the Transcend drive is noticeably faster than the thunderbolt connection for writing and about the same for reading. The read speed for both is faster than the write speed (that is to be expected) but the write speed for the Mini's internal ssd is faster than the read speed (and that was not what I expected). This drive is much faster than the sold state drive I placed into a usb 3 enclosure. This drive is very much faster than my physical 1TB drive. So, while I think this is a very good solid state drive and I am happy with it, I currently am using it with usb 3 and not thunderbolt. What I have not done is compare is compare the speeds of this commercial drive with another 256GB commercial sold state drive. It may be that this drive is over-priced but, without a second sold state drive to use for comparison, I can not judge that. And I should also mention that this drive does not run hot as others have noted. Perhaps it is because it is used only to hold photos and thus only in use when I am editing photos, but I have not at any time seen this drive heat up.

So far so good...
Bought this drive for my 2015 Retina MacBook Pro to install Box Sync on an external drive. Since I received it only yesterday, I can't speak for the durability of the product. The packaging was nicer than expected - all items neatly packaged with the drive on top. The cables look like they will work in a pinch, but I doubt they will hold up to the abuse of being tossed into my laptop bag. I purchased an Apple Thunderbolt 2 cable for this reason.I primarily purchased this drive as it has the option of a Thunderbolt or USB connection. My MacBook has 2 USB 3.0 ports & 2 Thunderbolt 2 ports, but I use 3 different external solid state drives for 3 different functions. One is dedicated for Time Machine & other backups, one is formatted in exFAT so it can hold files from Mac & Windows (I run OS X El Capitan & Windows 10 in Parallels), and this third drive for Box Sync. Like other reviewers I too noticed the drive getting rather warm sitting on my leg with my laptop in my lap, but I am taking the manufacturer's word for it that the exterior material magnifies the "warm feeling" the drive gives off and it runs at similar temps as similar external drives. So far I am happy with the purchase - it will take a few weeks before I will know if the drive meets my needs or not.Regarding pricing - it does seem a little overpriced when compared to other external SSD - like the Samsung T3, or SanDisk Extreme 500 series, etc. I felt like I was paying a premium more for the convenience of having a Thunderbolt or USB option than for the actual drive features and abilities. It will be irrelevant in a few years anyway as the newer USB 3.1 technologies and the like start hitting the market at consumer-friendly pricing.

Works well as an external SSD for iMac
I was initially a bit sceptical about purchasing this drive but it seemed to offer an easier solution than installing an internal SSD in my iMac which looked way to difficult for me. I have been running it as my main drive now for just under two weeks (running High Sierra) and I can confirm that it does the job well. Using benchmark figures it is around 5 times faster than the internal hard drive (which I now use for backups).I purchased the 250GB version (I see the price on Amazon has since gone up!) and there is plenty of room there for the operating system and application files.Installation of the new operating system wasn't quite as painfree as I was expecting with the computer apppearing to hang for an inordinate amount of time before continuing on its merry way. I also had a few problems with kernel panics once installed but it turned out these were not the fault of the drive itself, rather the second Thunderbolt lead that I use to drive an external monitor. I have since replaced this with a new lead.Just a few things to note;I use Thunderbolt to drive this and have formatted it with the new Apple File System (APFS) and it works fine. Please note however, that if you wish to use USB 3 AND the new APFS then the computer will take an absolute age to boot up and in some cases even longer than with the standard hard drive. This is a known issue apparently (according to the forums) and has to do with some kind of incompatibility between non-Apple SSD drives, USB 3 and APFS. So if you are planning to use USB 3 then format the disk in Apple Extended since doing so will speed up the boot times immensely. The disk also appears slightly faster on USB 3 than it does on Thunderbolt for some reason, although ultimately there is not that much in it and I wanted to use Thunderbolt anyway. As I said above performance is great now, no more waiting for applications to load and the stupid spinning beachball.Unlike some other customers I have not had problems with the disk appearing to overheat, the drive appears to run run fairly cool, or at least just warm to the touch. I used a tiny litle bit of Velcro (not too much because you will block air from circulating around the drive) and affixed it to the rear stand of the iMac. It looks neat and keeps the drive out of the way.The drive spins down and turns off with the power settings enabled but this was a matter of trial and error ultimately. However, the dodgy Thunderbolt lead to my external monitor kept the drive alive for some reason until I was able to replace it.If you are worried about disk longevity and fragmentation this disk also supports the TRIM function although you have to enable it via Terminal. But it appears to operate, according to my system logs anyway. However, TRIM is only supported via Thunderbolt not over USB.Thats about it really. Would I buy this again, definitely yes. Does it speed up the iMac, yes absolutely.

L'ho ricevuto in perfetto orario e funziona molto bene
