Virtually identical in many respects to the GT-2000 V4s; a bit narrower, overall a great shoe so far!
I have been running with Asics shoes for 25 years. I have tried many brands, and keep coming back to Asics for the most consistent fit that has left me relatively injury free (no small feat for a 6'2" 200 pound runner in my mid 40s!). I have battled a few injuries, and rest (along with come Cortisone shots) have done the trick when combined with good new shoes. So I'm coming from the GT-2000 series, version 4. My toes have always tended to wear little holes in the sides of the shoes, so I've gone to a 2E size and that has worked well. Sometimes it felt like the toe box was too big, but maybe my foot is just a little wierd. After going through 5 pairs of GT-2000 V4s, apparently Asics no longer has any of my size remaining, so I have to step up to something newer (rant: I wish they would just stick with one design for many years, but I won't get off on that tangent). I could not find any shoes online that fit that were under $120, so I decided to try out the GT-1000 series V6 which happens to be available for me (11.5 2E). I have used GT-1000s in the past with great success, but got hooked on the excellent GT-2000s. By the way, I DO sometimes get or discounted items to review, but I absolutely had ZERO discount on these. After unboxing and seeing the bottom of the shoe I immediately thought it looked REALLY familiar. Sure enough, when compared next to my GT-2000 V4s, the bottom is virtually identical. As in they did a copy / paste when doing the design. Not a problem as I LOVE the design, but you probably aren't getting anything groundbreakingly new. After more comparison, I realized that despite the sizes being identical on paper, the toe box is at least 1/4" narrower on my new GT-1000s versus my old shoes. So beware; you probably should consider going up a size width if you are used to running with Asics. The actual fit and function is excellent. Honestly it feels VERY similar to the GT-2000s, but maybe is an ounce or two lighter. There is a "stability" insert in heal so it still works well for me (I have some mild pronation issues). It cushions well and feels great. The upper part of the shoe feels like they shed some of the support that was built into the GT-2000s, but so far that has not bothered me (in fact I prefer the new feel; feels like I am almost just running in socks that have soles). The only question I have is whether these will hold up; I have had good luck overall with the brand, so I assume I will get 6 months or so of use from them (500+ miles). But if not you can be sure I will provide an update to my review.Bottom line, these are similar to the GT-2000s (just a bit narrower, but has a VERY similar bottom sole; see photos for old versus new). For the price, so far I think I have managed to still find great shoes for under $100. Not cheap, but I would not consider going to any "lesser" level of shoe if you are a serious runner and want to avoid injuries. Thanks for reading - now step away from the computer and go run some miles!

A Good Comfortable Shoe
I am a marathoner and enjoy the fit and comfort of a good running shoe over pretty much any other sort of shoe. This shoe I purchased specifically to wear to work. They don't call attention to themselves, they are quite comfortable and offer good support for all the walking I do. After 18 years of training for, and running marathons, my feet have gotten wider. So, that means a 4E width usually results in cozy happy feet. However, this shoe's 4E width is more like a 2E. The shoe is narrower with less room in the toe box than I am used to. Still comfortable, but narrower. This is a trend that I have noticed in other running shoes that I have tried on. Newer model shoes tend to be narrower than shoes from just a couple of years ago. I can't even put my foot in a regular D width anymore. Thank goodness for ASICS running shoes and a 4E width. Bottom line: A good comfortable shoe that does what it needs to do.

NARROW compared to v5
If you have bunions stick with the version 5 4E, they are the best shoes I have ever found for accommodating a wide toe box while still cupping the ankle. ASICS Men's Gt-1000 5 Running Shoe, Black/Onyx/Black, 9.5 4E US Speaking only for the 4E, these are far more narrow than the version 5 I linked above. I would suspect the D and 2E will also run narrow, so I would recommend people with normal feet start with 2E or 4E and see if they need something more narrow. For people with bunions, look for something with a wider toe box or the version 5 GT-1000 which are basically the best shoes ever. These run the same length as version 5, but about a half size larger than version 4 and earlier (which is to say these run on-size, those ran small).I am very impressed with the design of the ankle padding. It closes around the ankle like trail running shoes, but is soft enough for everyday wear. So if you're interested in outdoor sports these might be a great option.

Much larger and bad fit.
I owned two pairs of the GT-1000 4 shoes before this. These shoes were size 11.5(2E). They fit like a dream and I was happy I finally found a larger size width in a plain black shoe. My toes still felt only SLIGHTLY cramped in them so that's why I decided to bump it up to the 11.5(4E) GT-1000 6. I was hoping these shoes of the same exact style albeit newer would be similar to the past pair. Unfortunately I found it was different. Also note I tried size 11(4E) GT-1000 6 which were too small. I also tried MULTIPLE 11.5(4E) GT-1000 6.The GT-1000 6 shoes do not fit anywhere as well as the GT-1000 4 did. These new shoes seem to be even LONGER than the last pair of shoes I owned with almost .75~ Inches or more in front of my toes compared to .5~ inches in the GT-1000 4. I unfortunately wore them only around the house as a testing phase. Every pair of the GT-1000 6 I tried on squeaked like crazy at the heel and even though I kept the THIRD pair I tried it wasn't until about 4-6 miles in the heel started squeaking as well (By this point they showed some usage and I didn't feel right returning it even though I should have). On top of the squeaky heel you can also feel the movement under neath your heel. This is very annoying. The shoes don't fit anywhere as snug around the ankles as the GT-1000 4 did although my ankles aren't popping out of them there is much more movement. I also experienced foot pain at the beginning of use with these shoes (mile 4-6). The extra toe width is appreciated but overall this shoe is not good for me and varies wildly from previous models. As far as I know the larger width's only effect the toe box and not the ankle fit.Would make sure you thoroughly test these out if you owned previous models of this same shoe.

Good shoes, but faulty heel cup design.
The shoes are quite comfortable but the heel cup caused blisters on the back of my foot for the first few weeks. It still causes some discomfort with extended use (e.g. jogging or long walks) but it is bearable after the break-in.
