Basic Math & Pre-Algebra Workbook For Dummies

workbook only, please!
I bought the bundle of Basic Math and Pre-Algebra For Dummies plus the workbook. I started out trying to use them both but very quickly disregarded the book and worked only with the workbook. I figured I would reference the main book if I had any problems but ended up never using it at all. I have yet to receive my copy of Algebra for Dummies so I can't say that it doesn't pick up were this one leaves off, but I'm a little disappointed to see it's not by the same author.Update 2014:When I bought this book, it was because I was about to take a non-credit (as in, not actually college level) math class at the local community college and I wanted to catch up as I hadn't taken a math class since 8th grade and hadn't done well in one since 6th. I figured math wasn't really for me, and I was more of a creative type (or something). Obviously, I wasn't planning on taking any more math classes than I absolutely had to but this book gave me such a nice start that I got almost addicted to solving math problems. It set me up perfectly for that class, and the class after that, and the class after that, and ... I decided to keep taking math classes up through differential equations at the community college and now I'm at a university studying computer engineering. I recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with math - even at somewhat higher levels. It's not a waste of time to start from the beginning and figure out where the little holes in your education are, the holes that have been letting the newer things fall through and out your head and make you think you hate math. You don't hate it, I promise. If you can read, you can do math.Update 2016:My son goes to a Sudbury school where the students do not have mandatory classes. One of his high school aged classmates asked me if I could help her with math so I bought another copy of this workbook for her. She had a terrible time in school and never did well in math before she was taken out of public school in middle school. She hadn't done any math for a few years but wanted to brush up since she's old enough to take some classes at the local community college and a few years from graduating high school. Working 1-2 hours a week with me and then on her own time, she got through this book and into intermediate algebra in about 2.5 months. I'm really proud of her!As for me, I'm two classes away from graduating with my bachelors degree. (Yes, I'm a slow poke, but I have to work and take care of a child at the same time!) One of my last two classes is a math class. I sure wish there was a For Dummies book for this one!

Good Refresher
I bought this book because the last time I took a math class was in 1978. I am continuing on in my schooling and the college is adamant that I need to take a remedial class if I can't pass their test. Yikes! This workbook has definitely rung some bells and it's actually kind of fun...like doing crossword puzzles. I still haven't taken the math test for school, but I know this has definitely helped to jog my memory regarding the basic math rules.

After always struggling with math, and not being able to pass the lpn entrance exam, i purchased this book. IT WAS AMAZING! I LEARNED MORE FROM THIS BOOK THEN 4 YRS OF HIGH SCHOOL MATH! i would recommend any potential nursing student to buy this book to refresh their basic math skills. i also found it helpful to buy another book called review guide for lpn/lvn entrance exam also on amazon. it has test questjons that are great!

Workbook for refreshing your math skills
Easy to read and comprehend basic math terminology. Fun way to refresh your basic math skills. I would highly recommend this book for anyone looking to overcome their fear of math. I needed it for just those reasons. I will purchase the companion book at some point, but for what I needed it for, the other book wasn't necessary at this time. I have always dreaded having to do math even in it's most basic form. This book makes me feel more like a smarty instead of a dummy when it comes to math problems. The price isn't prohibitive either.

Easy To Follow Guide For Simple Math
I bought this for my husband who needed to test for a position that would require simple math problems. He has been out of school for 30 yrs and wanted a review. He found that it was a great, simple to follow review of basic math skills. It was delivered quick and worth every penny!

VERY BASIC
I got this book to review over some basics before I went onto the Algebra I book. I took my last college math class, 3 years ago and I am preparing for chemistry in the Fall. I really felt this book was very simple and you can breeze through this book with no problem. I worked on this over 3 days, I went through every chapter and re-worked the problems I got wrong. It wont take long to go through, and you dont even have to dedicate that much time to it either. I am glad I went through it, but it was a lot more basic than what I was thinking it was going to be.I did find several mistakes throughout the book, which is a hassle when your not sure if you go the problem right. Also the fractions are very small in the book, they really should up the font size for them.

Basic Math and Pre-Algebra Workbook for Dummies
`Basic Maths and Pre-Algebra Workbook for Dummies' is the accompanying workbook to the main dummies textbook of the same name. It is in a slightly larger format than the main book and is printed on much inferior paper, but the information inside is great. In some respects you don't need the main book to get the most from this workbook. Each chapter introduces the key concepts, shows you how to do the equations, then proceeds to provide some problems for you to solve, before giving the answers at the end of the chapter. You can get a great deal from this book alone and the main `Basic Maths and Pre-Algebra for Dummies' book only provides the same information but fleshes it out and goes into greater depth. If you're goal is to brush up on existing skills then you can quite easily buy this book on it's own. If it's to gain a fuller knowledge of math or if you're starting from scratch, then using both books is probably the better option. This follows the typical `dummies' format, and if you have read any other of the dummies book you'll know what to expect. There is the slightly tongue in cheek text delivery, clear icons and obligatory part of tens at the back. As I noted on my review for the main book, I worked my way through this, accompanied with the main book that goes with it, and my math skills increased incredibly. I realised I knew a lot of this information from school, but this book gave me the confidence to use it and it refreshed my memory about how certain equations are done. This is a good book to get some math practise and a great place to turn if you want to beat those maths demons.Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.

Basic Math and Pre-Algebra Workbook
It had been a long time since I had studied algebra and I was looking for a book to take me back to basics; this book was exactly what I was looking for. I do feel this book is more for "brushing up" your knowledge rather than starting from scratch.
