This is a really nice foam roller set. The outer foam roller is made of a firm type of foam, but it still has a little give to it. The outer foam roller is wrapped tightly around a PVC pipe, which gives the whole roller a nice, very firm core - which is great when trying to apply firm pressure to certain muscle groups in your back. So, this outer roller has a firm inner core and a semi-firm foam exterior, which is still soft, has some give to it, and feels really nice to roll your back on. The varied texture of the outer foam roller, which includes areas with multiple lumps as well as areas with elevated, thickened lines, allows you to massage your tight muscles with whichever texture is going to best meet your needs. Believe me, certain textures on this outer roller really help to soothe my sore back muscles more so than other textures. My favorite part about this outer roller, aside from the firm texture, is the sturdy PVC pipe holding this roller in position at all times! Love this feature!The inner foam roller fits snuggly into the outer foam roller. It has more give, and there is no PVC pipe to give it consistent structure. I find that this foam roller is less helpful on my back, as it collapses too much for me, but it works wonders on my neck. When I lay on the ground with this under my neck, I can feel my neck curling into it's more natural position - I have abnormally straight vertebral alignment on rads, so I have lost the natural curve to my neck. My straight neck vertebrae causes chronic neck pain, and I am always searching for products that can help re-establish my natural neck curve. This product is great for me in that respect. I also tried using this under my neck while sleeping in my bed - I don't think that worked as well for me - I think it became a little too uncomfortable in that position after a while. However, I still think the inner foam roller is helpful as neck support as I lie on the ground. I am very glad to have this foam roller. As a final note, the inner roller fits very well into the outer roller, and both inner and outer foam layers are flush when the inner roller has been completely placed within the outer roller. The entire product stores away very nicely if you don't use it everyday.I am very happy that I purchased this product, and I have already converted a few friends to this foam roller. I see myself using this very often, especially after being hunched over while gardening all day. This 2 in 1 foam roller is just what I was looking for! I use it after I run to massage the muscles in my legs, my calves, knees, and thighs. The results are better than stretching after a run. I don't feel like my muscles are right and knitted anymore and they are not sore either. I walk away feeling great. The outer core of this roller is very firm and great for that deep massage when you need it.
