Great Book!

Hands down the best book I have read on the topic. From setting up your home network to tips on creating complex passwords, this book has it covered. In the past I have found computer books intimidating and filled with “geek speak." Thankfully, the author kept the technical terminology at a level where your basic level user, like myself, was able to understand the majority of what I read. As an added bonus, my husband who actually is computer savvy (unlike myself) was also able to pick up some useful new pointers. Bottom line: I appreciate the bite size chapters and have found them easy to reference back to and feel like I have a better understanding of what I can do to secure my home network. Good read.

Good Book- Can be Utilized as a "Source" to Make "Cyber-Security" Issues REAL For ALL US

A short review here. I looked through this book quite some time ago, as having beyond absurd issues with ALL things electronic, in my Region of the United States of Lower Alabama- specifically the Eastern Shore for LA residents. This includes not only computers, internet, but even ordered "electronics" delivered via mail off the internet as well whole host “OTHER” infrastructure issues/problems. Many ISP providers this area claim "not" enough "bandwidth" available in LA due to "massive" influx of people and no "infrastructure" to support this "massive" growth.... kind of a reverse "they will come" and then we will "build-improve," etc... scenario, that never seems to occur except to very "limited" extent and apparently- as appears, “on surface” only in areas those whom can "afford it"/ "influence it" reside!Unfortunately, to this day I and others "supposedly" still have major issues this regard.....!!!! I realized that this issue as well as others well above and beyond my skill set, via reading and/or perusing books such as these. I personally found this book useful in fact it discuses a very "real" and potent threat- "cyber-security" - not only to the average US citizen but the US at large and makes it real.....! Sadly, read article internet, while back, and cannot remember enough to cite, but apparently "reporters" have found the "corruption" of all sorts electronic devices are being utilized to "retaliate" against people and literally "drive them crazy!" So, to whom does the average US Citizen turn to when"such" activity is suspected- local, state, Federal authorities???? I have found all of these "authorities' to be "severely lacking"- even thought some supposedly, perhaps, trained in Hoover AL, Federal Cyber-Security Law-enforcement training center, to deal with issues this nature locally!Bottom-line: This book is "good" as can be utilized as a "source" to make "cyber-security" issues REAL to those whom may claim no knowledge!

Great for the beginners and the more seasoned

This book gave me a great understanding of ways that I can protect my home from cyber attacks on a basic level. There are many great points in this book that my family and I had overlooked. The reading did not create a sense of paranoia. It strengthen my knowledge and resolve to remain vigilant against this very serious threat. I suggest everyone pick this up and read it as a family.

Worth Every Penny

Cybersecurity, even for the home computer user, is a vast area, and the author has done us all a tremendous service by surveying the various possibilities for improving our security. He leans heavily toward Windows computers, so Apple users may need to dig deeper in some areas. However, many of his comments will apply to all (such as wireless security, password managers, and web browsers). He repeatedly emphasizes implementing security in layers, and he provides several suggestions for each layer. This book would probably be worthwhile even if you made only one of his suggested improvements in your security.

Would have been 5 but...

Really surprised that the author claims to be a security expert but fails to mention Microsofts free Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit (EMET). Very few mitagation strategies should exclude using this tool. Otherwise, not a bad little book as a primer only to security. One big plus is the web addresses of all tools mentioned.

A very useful book and easy to read

I found this book very easy to read and very useful. I really like the bonus of a long list of free resources found in the appendix.
