I have always thought this lass has one of the most delectable voices around her only problem is the material can be a little week , without Alf this would sink without trace .Worth buying just for her singing I think so

Larynx and pharynx exercises
Alison Moyet has probably a better voice than any other current 'popular' female singer. I've got all her albums and have seen her in concert. Unfortunately, I wasn't paying attention to my music catalogue and went and ordered this when I had it already. I'll put the second one in a charity shop. It's dire.Whereas an album like "Raindancing" had lots of songs with strong melodies, this one sounds like a set of vocal cord exercises. No doubt some of the notes stretch her adductor muscles nicely, but they just grate on my eardrums, I'm afraid. Pretentious and tuneless.

A welcome return
One of the great voices in British pop music of the Eighties returns after a seemingly endless pause.I haven't read any reviews yet, but I suspect "Hometime" will be refered to as "adult pop", with a dubious undertone. A friend of mine recently said that if that is the case, he instantly knows that he's going to like the record. I had to think of this when I first listened to "Hometime". The song material doesn't take more risks than Moyet ever took since Yazoo-times, but since she's much too late for the Eighties revival anyway, I guess being Alison Moyet and releasing a record in 2002 is a risk in itself. The two songs written by Carlton McCarthy rely on easily accessible big drama, while the rest demands repeated listenings. Some electronic elements are featured in the production style, and they are by no means hip in any way, but why should they? The last two songs are delivered in French (stylishly without any accent, if anyone cares). All in all, the songwriting is worthy of Alison Moyet's voice, and she's still a good singer. Time will show if the record is more than a footnote, and in the meantime old and possible new fans can enjoy an entertaining time.

Schade.

Sunday afternoon album
The CD is easy listening. Perfect to play on Sunday mornings when greeting the day. It's quintessential Moyet - deep and resonating. Songs are slow, but a nice change from her more popular tunes that have a more upbeat, pop sound.

A hidden gem in the USA
This really is a masterpiece. Lush, gorgeously rendered. One of the most amazing voices shows her chops as a top notch songstress in this exquisite recording. A hidden gem in the (I believe, mostly unaware) USA.
