Lasted 7 years now and needs replacing
I have had my mattress now for 7 years in a months time and thought as it is now on its way out and I need a new one I could write a review about my experience of it.My birthday is in April and my mum asked me as she always does what I wanted, there was no hesitation "a new mattress please" I asked, mine is sagging in the middle and uncomfortable now to sleep on and sit on as I can feel the bed box of the divan beneath me.Going back 7 years, Mother asked me as she always did, what would I like for my upcoming birthday in April, at the time my husband and I were sleeping on an old sprung mattress we had, had since we got married 20 odd years before which poked and prodded you with the ends of the springs often leaving dents in the skin! It was very uncomfortable and even had holes in it where the springs ends poked through. I asked for a new mattress, I shared it with hubby but didn't mind after all we both slept on it.I found this one and liked the sound of it, I wanted memory foam because of my arthritis and had heaard it helped support the joints better and also preferred a foam one to a sprung mattress, this one was reasonable at the time and I picked it.It arrived 2 days after my birthday, it was in a strong plastic bag 4 ft 6 tall and rolled up in a tight bundle, we opened it on our bed and left it for about 18 of the 24 hours it recommended. With a house full of kids and no spare room we had to sleep on it that night, it seemed fine like it had bulked back to its usual size and indeed it was.Best nights sleep of my life (well one of them)Husband said he felt like he was going to fall out of bed all night and after a week decided he didn't like it at all, he complained it sloped down towards the floor and felt like he would end up on the rug each night, we started looking for a new sprung mattress this time.I loved this one and didn't want to change it , I had to find a way of making it feel secure for hubby at night so came up with an idea of putting the bed up on blocks of wood his side to slope the bed down towads my side as I was against the wall. It worked, Hubby was happy, I was happy, although more than once i woke up jammed against the wall, with him jammed against me as he had rolled down towards me during the night.Fast forward to September of the same year (2013) Hubby dropped the bomb shell, said he was having an affair and was leaving. He walked out of my life that night and never came back. (there is a point to this waffle I swear)I got very depressed and down and spent 2 years not leaving my bedroom apart from certain trips out with my son and for meals etc I started crocheting again to make myself feel better and found making blankets and baby clothes made me feel human again and made so many I started selling them at craft fairs. I would sit on the bed during the day with my crochet, in the centre of the mattress, my new place to lie now I had the bed to myself (star fish, star fish, snow angel!!) Bang in the centre of the bed, all 4ft 6 double bed to myself, bliss!!One day as well quite by accident I found out why hubby felt like he was falling out of bed all the time, the side of each of the divan boxes (there are 2) is broken and the top, a hard dense cardboard is sagging down to the side where he slept and as he was heavier than I am he would lie on these parts and roll towards the floor, so it wasn't the mattress not supporting him, it was the bed all along. Since hes left I have filled up the dips with, pillows and cushions under the mattress to hold it up, I dont sleep on that side anyway and being in the middle dont notice it at all. all is good, OK waffle over back to the mattress...It has 3 zones, the top where your head lies, the denser middle where the weight of your body lies and the foot end where.....well yeah, you guessed it.....your feet lie. Due to the memory foam layer and the 3 zones its not supposed to be turned and topped and tailed like I did with the sprung one we had used for 20 odd years. I did however top and tail the mattress every year. With me sat in the middle of the bed all day for 2 years and sleeping in the middle all night, the middle started to get pretty thin and this past year or so I started to notice as I got out of bed there was a dip in the middle. If ever my daughters came to stay, (Christmas etc as by 2015 they had moved out of the family home into their own) my youngest would sleep in with me, they usually stayed 3 nights at most so we managed. 3 Christmases ago we woke up on Christmas morning staring at one another pressed forehead to forehead and my daughter said "mum, your mattress is dreadful, its time you got a new one" (well she said something else but I cant repeat it here) "plus you are so used to having the bed to yourself you keep smacking me every time you turn over and no offence I'd rather sleep on the floor tonight" She did, haha!! She shared the single air bed with her sister and it developed a puncture in the night and they woke up on the floor boxing day morning with a deflated mattress beneath them! That is a whole nother story...Back to this mattress..As I am writing this review I am sat in the middle of the bed (as usual!) with 3 old pillows and several old cushions between the mattress and the divan to try and fill up the dip!, its lumpy and bumpy and its getting harder and harder to fluff them up each week when I make the bed as they are getting pretty flat themselves....time I had a new mattress. Both sides are fine however, they are comfortable to sit on, unlike the middle dip and feels like it did when it was new....mainly because I just sleep bang slap in the middle all the time and due to the dip you cant sit or lay on the sides without waking up having rolled into the dip. If you sit there with another person, you both end up in said dip, It is definitely not very comfortable anymore! In conclusion. This is a very comfortable mattress, the memory foam is great for supporting my joints, the foam mattress below the memory foam is very supportive and indeed comfortable, I think mine got uncomfortable due to the 2 years I spent sat on it in the same place day and night and wore it out faster, I should really have got a new one 2 years ago when this was 5 years old. I think it would have lasted a good 8 years though had I not taken to my bed for 2 years after he left. The 3 zones are a good idea but you cant really turn this to allow even wear making it last longer and the memory foam layer stopped you turning it over too. I think my next mattress will be a standard sprung one with a memory foam mattress topper to allow for the turning and topping and tailing of the new mattress to make sure it wears evenly so I wont be buying another one of these however I am glad I did as I have loved it its just as I have mentioned above being able to turn and top and tail it for a more even wear.I really need a new bed too but that will have to wait a bit, so I will have to put up with the cushions and old pillows patching up those bits for a little longer.

Very comfortable but with 1 minor issue
Bought this as I have 2 damaged discs in my back and my previous mattress had been uncomfortable from day 1. This is a lot firmer than my old one which really helps with my back and it IS supremely comfortable to sleep on. The minor issue - the smell...Despite having used it for a couple of weeks now there is still a slight whiff about it, with the heat being so bad this week I opened my loft hatch to try and keep the temperature down up there but closed the bedroom door as I didn't want any creepy crawlies finding their way into the bedroom. When I came home and opened the bedroom door the smell nearly knocked me out, a very strong pungent chemical smell that was really overpowering, I am thinking that it can't be good breathing that in all night, thankfully I haven't noticed so far as I sleep with the bedroom window open but come the winter? Hmmm, I will have to wait and see on that one. Just be aware that this does have a strong odour that apparently, doesn't go away...

Great matteress... but plan for off gassing
It was easy to unpack and i find it really comfortable. The only issue was off gassing, which youd get with any memory foam matteress thats been in storage, and is a part of the manufacturing process. It took about 4 weeks for mine to stop giving off a chemical spell, but as i was away for most of those weeks, it wasnt a huge issue. Ideally leave in a room you can have the window open in for a while

Great comfy mattress that replaced same brand after seven years
Got European double to replace same brand one I got seven years ago. It smells a bit chemical initially but the smell will go and it’s a great memory foam mattress for a reasonable price. It’s comfy and doesn’t sag in the middle like a famous Swedish brand one. Would definitely buy again if I’m going to replace any other mattresses in the house. It has a cover you can take off and wash but I prefer to use extra mattress cover instead.

Comfortable, but dubious build quality. Terrible follow on service from amazon.
A copy of the complaints email sent to Amazon.co.uk regarding this product, by way of review of the product and associated follow on service:We received these items in July and August last year and related to the purchase of two "Silentnight 7-Zone Memory Foam Mattress, Double" items. One was ordered by myself, and the other by my partner. They were remarkably comfortable, if a bit warm, and the squishy memory foam activity proved both supportive and medium-firm comforting. For background. These mattresses have been treated well and regularly rotated, one slept on regularly and one in a spare bedroom, which has been slept on probably under 20 times. One mattress is on a bed with slats (narrow gaps between) and one on a flat base. Both mattresses have developed (or came with) similar faults whereby the foam layer has started to tear in the middle of the bed, creating gaps in the mattresses along the side and leading worsening sleep as the mattress support shifts, and the dreaded "roll together" experienced in much older mattresses started (don't get me wrong, we like to cuddle on occasion, but by choice rather than by force of gravity). This issue has been developing for a series of weeks, but today was the first chance I've had off from work and study to find a reasonable amount of time to try to arrange a return/replacement.Following the general returns practice I used the "call me back" returns route at 08:46 this morning (which I have to commend as an excellent feature for reducing initial customer stress). I was connected to your Philippines customer service centre and explained the above issue to one of your customer service colleagues. I summarized how the two mattresses had been ordered from different accounts and that one of the account holders, my partner needed to leave for work soon, so I would greatly appreciate resolving any security access and returns issues required for handling the product she ordered up front, or as early a priority as possible that she might leave as soon as permissible. The customer service representative then assured me that I would be able to do this with her login details and that she would not need to stay around. At his lead we went through processing the first return on my account, after some difficulty establishing the requirement for a weekend replacement delivery and confirming that although he had set the original delivery date for tomorrow, Friday 11th June, this would be corrected to the Saturday (12th) instead. This has yet to update on my account, but I have faith that this will iron out. He then started the process for the second account, and was halfway through before the realisation that I would have to run down the road in my dressing gown to catch up with Vikki, as it turns out we did need to get her to answer security questions after all - neither of the involved parties, or any witnesses to this, were particularly impressed.Following confirmation of the two replacement items being sent out, I enquired as to whether Amazon would be providing any sort of apology or compensation for the inconvenience, sleep disruption, and hassle caused by the process - as both products developed similar faults through vastly different usage patterns, and equal levels of non-misuse, we could only conclude that the item's perceivable value was lessened and little confidence currently exists in a similar fault not developing before another 10/11 month window has elapsed. At this point the service rep attempted to convince me that he had processed the return for us as a goodwill gesture, and that Amazon had no obligation to do anything or responsibility for the product (a direct amazon sale, non-marketplace item) after the 30 day customer returns period had expired. This was in spite of my insistence that a mattress that starts to disintegrate before a single year has elapsed is clearly not fit for purpose, and that as the seller Amazon are clearly responsible for the sale. Mattresses usually last between 5-10 years I hasten to add. After explaining that I appreciated that he might not have that much power to issue any goodwill credit to the account and that his team leader might be better equipped to handle such an issue, I was treated to a 5 to 10 minute wait before being greeted with some initial hostility by his manager. I did not get the first service representative's name, but the manager identified herself as "R B".R started by again trying to convince me that amazon's responsibility for the product ended after the 30 day period, and that outside of the "goodwill" gesture of processing the replacement, there was little else they were prepared to do. At the mention of a material apology (by which I mean consideration for the abovementioned inconvenience) she became irate and asked me if I had read the customer returns policy, before challenging me to consider whether any business would ever make a profit if it gave apology credits to customers following complaints about poor products. At my response of "yes, because customer loyalty is more important than any one given sale", she became more disagreeable and difficult to communicate with. I tried to explain that I had always perceived amazon's customer service to be of strong quality in the past, indeed I had often used amazon over other competing services (such as the now extinct play.com) in the past for this reason, and that apologies by way of something more than "we're sorry, here's a replacement" had always been part and parcel (pun intended) with that. R's response to this was that I should be grateful for any such credits I or my friends and family had received in the past, but that there was no chance of any such apology coming for this item, and that I could either take the replacement items or a refund (and presumably find something else more comforting than her customer service techniques to sleep on).The purpose of this complaint is threefold:One, to draw attention to a product that may well cause future returns issues for Amazon, for which the build quality may wish to be investigatedTwo, to request some kind of more effective apology than "here's two new suspect mattresses which we're only giving you as a favour"Three, to highlight potential inconsistencies in customer service quality between various different service branches. Previous complaints that I or my family have dealt with have generally been handled in the UK before, and whilst I don't want to start citing nationalism as a reason to complain itself (it might well be that Rea was having a difficult day prior to my call), I cannot help but feel that the way this request was processed was quite poorly managed from the outset. The poor coordination regarding the initial return (resulting in horrified neighbors and a few stones in my feet), and the obtuse and belligerent attitude of the customer service manager are something I have not previously experienced with Amazon's customer service, and not something I am keen to go through again. The repeated citing of the 30 day policy also felt like an exceedingly deceptive ploy on their part to try to pass the buck to the manufacturer. As I'm sure you are aware (and as mentioned above) a mattress falling apart after one year is clearly not fit for purpose, and should be returnable as a statutory consumer right.I was upset by the way this return has been handled, and as current am seriously considering the value of using amazon for similar high value purchases in the future. A quick review of mine and my partners accounts will show that we are frequent amazon customers and make purchases of high and low value through your services. In addition my family includes regular prime subscribers and similar high volume users.I hope that this email will be handled with more seriousness and integrity than the phone call I suffered, and trust that you will make contact with me imminently to further discuss any queries and/or reconciliatory action.Yours in moderate disgruntlement,P
