It works as a shadow color, and because it's not a black, it doesn't kill your local color. It's not really a brown, it's a combination of three pigments. You still have to use care or brighter colors turn muddy, but it's WONDERFUL for most applications in shadow. Also, it granulates if you want it to. Yummy! You can use it alone for cloud shadows or other neutral color objects.
