GBC Paper Shredder, Jam Free, 22 Sheet Capacity, Strip-Cut, 10-20 Users, DS22-19 (1758595)

We are pleased with the operation of this shredder; it is quiet, high capacity and we like the way the trash bag fits in and is held by the interior frame and hooks. We also like the retracted guide for shredding CDs, credit cards, etc. and the pocket inside the door for the instruction book and lubrication sheets. One downside is that the descriptive writeup for the shredder on Amazon describes this model as Selfoil, meaning that it would have a reservoir for shredder oil and would lubricate itself as needed. It does not; if you scroll down much further in the descriptive info there is a table of various Swingline shredder models that indicate that it is not. I didn't look that far initially, and ordered the shredder oil as well (later returned). I emailed Swingline to ask how frequently the lubrication should be done using the recommended oil, and they even said it was Selfoil initially! When I replied that the reservoir and indicator light they referred to did not in fact exist on this machine, they corrected and recommended lubrication sheets prior to each long shredding session.

I have used this for 4 and a half years. We shred about 15 to 25 pages a day plus a couple of CDs a week. The good is it still shreds nice thin strips reliably. The bad: auto start stopped working after about a year, oil is expensive, very difficult to take the thing apart to adequately oil the shredder blades. Also during the past couple of months it has started make a load squeaking sound when it operates. I have completely disassembled the unit and oiled everything I could see but it is still making the squeaking sound.I don't have much hope for buying a better shredder when I have to replace this one. It seems like no-one wants to market a shredder that is easily user serviceable.

When we received this machine, I followed all the directions for setup. I bought oil paper to put through once in a while, but still squeaks with that. Now the machine will take a piece of paper and then stop and go in reverse by itself. We empty the bin many times to make sure that it doesn't think it is full. There isn't any kind of warning light that is on with ONE page going through. Next step may be calling the company to see what may be wrong.Not very happy with the product, but not going to spend the money again for this brand again.

Good shredder but it is NOT jam free. It will jam, I think employees are to blame but not positive. A recommendation, if something jams and you can reverse it, reverse it all the way out and put half back in. No reverse then forward, may work a few times but using that method you can bind paper in there so tight it practically turns into wood. At least my employee did. Removal of jam was insane.

This is our third machine. We love it. It does a great job andtakes lots of pages at one time.Will recommend and will purchase again.
