Barely useful, DO NOT USE FOR TEST PREP!
Besides the fact that this is a printed version of the spam CPC exam prep book that's posted all over the internet, this hardly qualifies as a "test prep" material. For context: I have completed an online, self-paced medical terminology course and a CPC/physician coding course in the past 4 months. I was looking for practice exams for time management preparation (with the hopes that I might catch any of my problem areas while grading the exam.) This is one of very few resources with 150 questions that actually address the right proportion of each area being tested for the CPC.I'll say, for the positive, it's not full of typos and is properly formatted for printing. It's clearly being printed as-needed when ordered, though. It also has a sort of useful medical terminology review at the beginning, but this is not being taught or tested...just a list like an index that you could find for free online. As I mentioned, it also has the right number of each type of question. This is pretty much where the positives end.The regulatory/compliance section (deemed Coding Concepts) is not useful. It has a single HIPAA question and the rest are CPT guideline questions that should be in their respective sections.I have been testing 90-98% on other practice exams (50-60 question mini tests) and I managed an 85% on this. Only 2 of the wrong answers were actually wrong. Like, I misread something and got it wrong. The other 21 wrong answers were a result of poorly written questions. Here's the major issues with these:-Almost all of the scenarios don't ask for who/where you are coding. There's a number of scenarios that have multiple providers and it doesn't ask you to code for one, the other, or both. It seems to assume that all multi-physician scenarios are group practices billing them under a single tax ID. I wish I'd known this at the beginning.-Most of the op. note scenarios lack proper and complete notation. It will be a description of a surgical procedure, like they copy-pasted from a procedural reference, and never use terms to describe the procedure. Then, in the rationales, they're like "Well duh it was a _____ that was described." For the CPC exam, you do not get to have procedure references...just a CPT. While you need a solid anatomy, pathology, and medical terminology understanding, you are not expected to have the memorized intimate knowledge of surgeries. A few questions were so complex, I couldn't follow what was being done and the rationales did nothing to help explain it.-In the same vein as above, you won't need to code in a vacuum. You'll always have complete procedure notes, or the ability to query for more information. Working from really vague and incomplete notes means that you cannot logically exclude some of the similar code answers and then the rationale doesn't explain how to narrow it down.-Finally, there's a few questions that are downright tricks. For example, one question gives you treatment area in square centimeters, when the bandaging is done in square inches....and the rationale DOES NOT MENTION THIS. I get that this particular case is one of paying closer attention (which now I will do) but at least make it clear in the answer key. And you can't use a calculator at the exam...so...this wouldn't be on the CPC exam.TL;DR: Save your money for another resource. I highly recommend CCO[dot]us (Certification Coaching Org) for their Blitz and practice exam. They have great resources and the practice test is quite challenging, which is better prep than this useless and overpriced book.

2018 and 2019 duplicate book
I bought the 2018 version and decided to buy the 2019 version for more study questions. They are the exact same questions in both book. Very disappointed!

Good Value
I am taking the CPC exam in June 2019 and by far I am getting more answers right the second time I purchased it.
