Unsolved Case Files | Ashcroft, Harmony - Cold Case Murder Mystery Game - Can You Solve The Crime? Who Killed Harmony? For Ages 14 and up

We enjoy our game night playing detectives. These games are easy to understand and a lot of fun.

I don’t normally write reviews, but I just finished “solving this case” and am so satisfied with it, I had to let others know. I ordered this awhile back and once I received it my initial reaction was impressed. It came in an evidence bag all sealed up and looking like actual crime evidence (besides the obvious back explaining the game and barcode etc.) Opening it up there is a case folder filed with all sorts of evidence. From photos of the victim and location, autopsy report, person of interest files filled with witness testimonies, and interrogation, a map of crime possible suspects locations etc. Right away I will say this is not what I initially expected it to be, which is great! I had originally thought it wasn’t going to actually solving a case with evidence but more of a “escape room “ game where you had to find a hidden image like I-Spy or do a puzzle or math problem to figure out the next clue. But I was pleasantly surprised to find out I was wrong. I had gone through all the evidence and at first sat there and thought “ok what the heck do I do now?!” You had to really look at EVERYTHING and piece together clues and statements to find out everything. Advice is only focus on one objective at a time. Your first objective is written on the inside of the case file. Don’t worry about anything else until you get that solved. For me personally once I figured out the first objective I was able to solve the others one pretty much back to back. Though it might be because I had an early suspicion that I kept in my mind and certain ideas I kept thinking “had to be involved “. All and all it took me only a few hours and that was mostly me just going through all the paper work. But I will say it was so much fun and so satisfying to see when I was correct after verifying each objective! The only complaints I have is not being able to play it all over again! (Though I do plan on having my fiancé and a family member try out on their own too if I can keep from gushing about how I solved the case lol) Also another note. When I had tried to go to the url link indicated on the folder to verify my first objective, it wouldn’t work. If you go to the unsolved case files website, click on your case file and scroll all the way down to “answers” link and click that, then you can click on whichever objective you are trying to verify (don’t worry there are no spoilers in the answers if you go in order) Would definitely recommend to any true crime or mystery fan.

Very good case! I have done 3 or 4 of the Unsolved Case Files now, they are really fun. I have always done them with a group, but this one I solved on my own! I will continue to do more cases. I highly recommend these to anyone who loves murder mystery style stuff.

This was my first game like this I’ve ever purchased and didn’t know what to expect for difficulty. I thought it was very easy; I played by myself and solved all the objectives in about an hour and 15 minutes. I wished it was more difficult so I got more play time for the money. Having said that though, I did really enjoy solving it. Not sure if I will buy more since it was over so quick and it’s not exactly something you can play again so it feels a bit expensive to the value you get from it.

Cute date night idea for something different! It’s detailed and entertaining. I solved it fairly quickly within the first 5 minutes or so. I am a murder mystery fanatic and pay close attention to details and statements. It’s not difficult if you are good with memory. We still played the game all the way because it was fun! It was a good price for a date night in. We set up a charcuterie board with ours. Everything was printed well and clear. The only bad thing is it’s kind of a one time deal.

I LOVE this game! I have played a lot of other brands - Hunt a Killer, Murder Mystery in a Box, Dispatch by Breakout, Sleuth Kings and the Deadbolt Society and this one is a top favorite! First of all, and for some people this will be a negative but for me it's a positive...there are NO ciphers or puzzles! I am SO bad at ciphers and every single murder mystery experience game seems to include them. It takes me out of the game because in real murder investigations you are not going to be deciphering morse code or something like that, you will just have to rely on the documents and evidence in front of you. This is great because it's packed full of documents and it has an easy to follow format. You complete the first objective, go online to click the two pieces of evidence you used to reach the objective, and then if you're right you open the next envelope and repeat (there are three, plus a bonus one). There are also hints if you need them. Some murder mystery boxes offer NO clues which is really frustrating because sometimes you just get stuck but don't want the entire answer to the game. It's also high quality - nice looking documents, lots of photos (yes they look like stock photos, but it's fine), and plenty of red herrings and twists and turns. The only negative thing is there are quite a few typos and grammatical errors. I guess you could technically blame the "transcribers" doing the cases in-game, but that's a little weak. Also, the witness statements - the witnesses speak in a very formal way, not in a way that normal people talk, which is a little jarring. ("I witnessed the butler enter the premises at 8:40pm and that's when the incident occurred." no one talks like that!) but it's overall a very good game and there was a lot of thought put into it. My recommendation is to TAKE YOUR TIME, there is no rush. Read and re-read and look at everything carefully. I played by myself but you could play with as many people as you want! I would say this is very family friendly...there is no cursing or graphic images or anything. I would like to play the rest of the cases and highly recommend!

I am writing this review more of the quality of the package than anything else. The three things to solve were pretty good, although I did get the first one within minutes. My wife and I veg in front of the TV way too much so this was fine for two hours. The mystery is t so hard it takes hours of searching online for stuff. Not at all everything to solve the crime is in front of you. We really like this feature. We tried other subscription ones but they were nuts. This much better. It was fun, top quality materials, and overall impressive set. My only negative is the way to make sure you are right, you have to verify two pieces of evidence used, but sometimes there are three pieces. Person of Interest and witness statements have similar info. Anyway, it is a really good kit at a fantastic price. I hope this review was helpful!

I was really excited to solve this case with my significant other. We were very much impressed on how much detail went into this game/case when we first opened it and looked at all the materials included. If you are reading this then the first thing I will mention to anyone who is into true crime shows, and or cold case shows, or anything related to that nature, this cold case game will not take you more than an hour to solve. I'm not a detective but one of my all time favorite TV shows is "Mindhunter" and a TV special on Richard Kuklinski, who was the Iceman killer. (Before reading this next sentence it's a personal spoiler ) What I mean by this is the fact that I've gained enough knowedge to form a timeline in my head after just viewing some pictures and the only piece of paperwork/evidence I was looking for is someone who was extremely close to Harmony, perhaps a childhood friend, maybe they have known each other for decades, perhaps jealousy. When I read through this one piece of evidence that was provided I solved this case within 10 minutes of start. So let me stop right here, because knowingly my girlfriend got mad at me for being cocky and that is not what I'm trying to sound like. I simply want to say that if someone is looking for a challenging cold case this is not one of those, this is perfect for a family setting, getting the kids involved or maybe getting just getting your close friends together for a fun game night. I still give this game a 10/10 for creativity. On an average person who doesn't know anything or too little about cold case or true crime, this will be a bit challenging and fun.
