Well made
I was at a Best Buy recently where Samsung has a manned section of the store. I have a Samsung phone that's scheduled to be replaced in a few months so I took a look at the S7-Edge. The store wasn't busy so I chatted with the Samsung rep for awhile and tried on the Samsung VR headset. Very cool and not bad for $99 although I could have gotten them for free if I upgraded now which would cost me more than waiting a few months. In order to curb my impatience and play around with VR I bought this cardboard kit. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much; come on - it's cardboard! But, for the price, the product proved me wrong. Some notes:1. Assembly. I watched the video that another reviewer posted here on Amazon. The seller referenced the video in one of the two (so far) emails he sent me (one when I placed the order and a second when it shipped). It went together OK but I did have some problems keeping the sticky end to stay put. I wound up using a glue stick - problem solved.2. I downloaded the Google Cardboard app from the Play Store and synced my Galaxy S5 to the viewer when asked by the app (just aim your phone at the QR code).3. My S5 didn't fit well into the viewer with the case which is a real pain in the neck to remove. That resulted in the top of the viewer not closing properly so I had to hold it closed with my hand.4. I wear glasses and I had to take them off to use the viewer because they wouldn't fit inside the "box". My eyesight isn't awful so it wasn't a big deal but if you have poor vision this may be an issue. Note - I'm a guy with a wide head so it's possible you may fit.5. The demo you see after you sync your phone with the viewer is lame. The images are a big clunky and will remind you of old video games.6. I've downloaded a few free "games" from Play Store and they're fun. Although the roller coaster is also clunky and very 1980's I'll admit that I got sucked into it a bit and while it wasn't like actually being in a roller coaster I did get some of the sensation.Overall I'm happy with the purchase and the quality of the viewer. Mine came with the optional elastic strap at no extra cost. I don't knjow if that was a mistake or if they've changed the packaging. I'm going to continue to play with these and will update this review if I come across anything (good or bad) of interest.

Cardboard box filled with nothing but broken dreams due to bad product design.
It's a functioning cardboard VR kit, but by functioning I mean that it accomplishes the bare minimum of being a useful product. When I first tried to use it I saw and experienced some very design flaws that seemed to me very obvious and clear lack of proper judgment and foresight by whoever designed the unit.Upon first putting it on, I saw the small hole where the nose was supposed to be inserted was way too small for my nose. Now I do not have a particularly large nose and it seems that it will be too small for anyone with a normal sized hole. It left me wondering whether they had designed this unit for the face of a normal human being or a very small elf. This may seem like a small thing but it's a very important one when considering the fact that how pleasant your experience will be with this unit will largely depend on how comfortable it will be able to rest on your face when you're moving about and effectively blinded from the outside world.Another problem with the unit was how well my phone was able to be placed inside. Now I used the Nexus 6P with this unit, a particularly large phone that is comparable in size with the IPhone 6S for all those not familiar with it. So naturally the ends did stick out when strapped into the unit. This was however not the problem. The main issue arose when I tried to used the straps at the top to secure my phone. Upon pressing the velcro down, the pressure from being sandwiched between two pieces of cardboard caused the power button on the sides of my phone to be pressed down. Needless to say, my phone would eventually be unintentionally turned off each time I tried to secure it into place. In addition to using a pair of scissors to reshape the nose hole, I also had to cut away at the top of the unit near the velcro so that when I secured the phone the power buttons would not be inadvertently pressed. Finally, the unit comes with a very large stretchable velcro used to secure it around your head during use. There is one stretchable soft and two small abrasive portions that need to be affixed to the unit using an adhesive on their backs. The adhesive however is much too weak to maintain a proper hold around your head and within 5 seconds of trying it on, it immediately came right off as one of the small velcro patches lost its hold on the unit. I ended up having to use to use a hot glue gun in order to maintain the small patches in place.I don't know much about Google Cardboard but I do believe that Google doesn't actually make them and instead licenses their creation to companies such as D-scope to sell to you, similar to how a restaurant franchise licences the creation of new location to private owners. The problem with this instance, however, is that whoever designed the specifics of this unit did not take all this into account and it makes me wonder if after designing it they even tested it to look for the flaws which I noticed within 5 minutes of using the product. All in all, I wouldn't recommend that anyone buy this product and would instead suggest that you find another manufacturer that can design a better user experience. If, however, you don't care about any of this then I can tell you that other than the flaws that I just listed, this product does indeed work as intended.
