Extremely disappointed..
Extremely disappointed.....this was a 50th Anniversary Edition and yet it did not include the beautiful 4-color illustrations of each shell that highlighted each section and became a book I cherished 50 years ago. I wanted to present a copy to each of 3 granddaughters........BUT NOT THIS EDITION.I AM RETURNING THEM. And will look for a used copy of the original edition. THE FACT THAT THE COLOR ILLUSTRATIONS WEREINTEGRAL TO THE CHRM OF THIS LITTLE BOOKLET......their illumination from this important Anniversary Edition should have been mentioned.

An EXCELLENT READ for ALL AGES--A WONDERFUL GIFT!
This is a FANTASTIC BOOK for ALL women of any age, but especially mothers and wives!! This book allows today's women to understand we are NOT alone and can actually relate to a long line of fellow mothers and wives (women of the 50's to the present), who have also struggled to maintain an open channel of spiritual and emotional guidance, while managing their personal relationships, home life, and careers!! The author is a breath of fresh air and a wonderful artist, as she paints an outlet through the visual gifts from the sea, that help to remind us to take time for ourselves and to remember how important WE are to the BIG picture! An EXCELLENT READ for ALL AGES!! A wonderful gift for a beautiful woman, a devoted mother, a daughter getting ready to cross over into the REAL world, or someone who is simply trying to find their way in this crazy, hectic world!!!

Beautifully written and rhythmic without being poetic
Cute book. Not what I was expecting and not something I'd have normally picked up to read. That being said ... something that I may read over and over again. Beautifully written and rhythmic without being poetic.Interesting how so much of it still resonates today ... 60 years later. And how much of it needs to be taught and reminded to girls and women of all ages. A book that transcends time."each cycle of the tide is valid, each cycle of the wave is valid, each cycle of a relationship is valid""She must learn not to depend on another, not to feel she must prove her strength by competing with another ... She must find the true center alone. She just become whole."

Anne Morrow Lindbergh's Gift
I first read 'Gift from the Sea' decades ago when I was in my 20's and loved it then. However, I just completed it again and identified so much more with Anne Morrow Lindbergh's life insights as she spends time alone in a small cottage on Captiva Island Florida. Like the author I am now at a time in my life where I have been married for a long time and my child is grown and I can appreciate her questioning the value of relationships, obligations and how we spend our time on too many things that do not align with our search for meaning in our lives. Mrs. Lindbergh wrote this book in 1955 but it is just as relevant today, even more so as we are inundated with the distractions of technology and social media infringing on the privacy of our lives and solitude becomes a rare and valuable commodity. Anne Lindbergh's gift is showing us a way back to ourselves, a breath of fresh air offering space within the busyness of our lives.

this is one of the most powerful and important books I have ever read and I recommend it to everyone
Use of the word 'love' as a # 5 rating does not fit my philosophical use of the word. I hope no regrets here. As for the book by Anne, this is one of the most powerful and important books I have ever read and I recommend it to everyone. I used this wonderful lady's writings in my profession over some 60 years and cherish what she writes for us all. To anyone, regardless of age, sex, race, education, etc. I heartily and totally recommend reading.

Highly recommend to any woman needing some balance
Let me start off by saying I'm a 16 y/o girl. I LOVED the book and really feel that this should be a more popular and more talked about. The things discussed are definitely mature (not in an inappropriate way). Some of the main topics of discussion are: balancing a household, maintaining a marital relationship, and middle age. As a teen I obviously could not relate to these things, this is a book for "older women" persay. But that does not mean young girls like me shouldn't read it, along with those lessons it also had lessons in relationships, friendships, feminism and over just important life lessons and well thought out ideas.

As relevant today as it was over 40 to 60 years ago
Even though this book was written in another space and time, the premise is still relevant and applicable today. Her thoughts and introspection regarding our inner search and relationships continues to ring true. Perhaps, even more today, women need to find within themselves the doors to inner enlightenment and close out the overwhelming noise of social media and the media in general. We need to find and embrace our inner acceptance and not be distracted by or driven by "influencers" pushing their own agenda of right, wrong and popularity. A book well worth the short time it takes to read and well worth reading more than once. Depending upon our personal place in our life, each reading will unlock different levels of relevance and understanding.

Timeless work of female wisdom
This is one of the wisest, most timeless books I have ever read. Every woman (especially mothers) should have their own copy to come back to at the right times to reflect and enjoy.
