Even Mom likes it!
I didn't think I would get into these stories as much as my 12 year old son did, but I was proven wrong! I was totally immersed in the story and the action, even though I have (had) no interest in martial arts, sword fighting, war stories etc. The stories are so well written and the plot is engaging, so even you don't have a secret desire to be a ninja or samurai you will enjoy the story and the character development etc. My son and his classmates gobbled this series up - Great for the reluctant reader who may not have found his/her genre yet.

My childhood
This book was in many ways formative in my growing up, and while sometimes it may lean on the simpler side of storytelling, it is absolutely one of the most beautiful pieces of literature I’ve ever read.

Book 3 of 9: Young Samurai
'The Way of the Dragon'Author, Chris Bradford, is a true believer in 'practising what you preach'. For this award-winning ‘Young Samurai’ series of books, he trained in Samurai swordsmanship, karate, ninjutsu and earned his black belt in Zen Kyu Shin Taijutsu. These are the 9 books, in order: (1) The Way of the Warrior (2) The Way of the Sword (3) The Way of the Dragon (4) The Ring of Earth (5) The Ring of Water (6) The Ring of Fire (7) The Ring of Wind (8) The Ring of Sky (9) The Return of the WarriorThe Way of the Warrior The Way of the SwordThe Way of the DragonThe Ring of EarthThe Ring of WaterThe Ring of FireThe Ring of WindThe Ring of SkyThe Return of the Warrior

Lacking that something to make it stand out
I started reading the series because I found the first one on my I-pad. It was Ok so I bought the rest but in each case the hero made mistakes, often the same ones and this led to a story that floated around Japan with the same characters fighting each other and the same outcome. No one got dead from among the bad guys. Then the series brought the main character to England. Oh boy! Did it go downhill in a rush. I read about thirty pages and had to put it down. It was dreadful. My recommendation is to read the ones based in Japan if you want to but then stop. My apologies to the author.

War
Excellent book. My 9 year old who has a taste for reading loves this series. This is the most brutal book so far. There is a war coming. Loyalties will be tested, betrayals revealed people will die. How will the young Samuri handle fighting experienced, merciless and blood thirsty warriors. Some will make the ultimate sacrifice, however even the survivors will be forever changed.Jack also learns the origin of one of his arch enemies, and a man who hired him to get the Rutter in the first place. However with this knowledge it just makes his enemies want to kill him all the more. This book has huge changes not just for Jack, or the Young Samuri, but the whole of Japan as well. I think Chris Bradford, managed to perfectly capture the brutality of war but the essence of the Samuri as well. An all round great book.
