Great bang for buck with good (wired) downstream kit...
Sept 2020:, Original Review: To start with I was sceptical, but curious - it arrived, seems modest but well built, plugged it into my USB C port on my android phone, plugged in a set of standard £30 earbuds...... and the difference was negligible to be honest. However, I then switched over to a decent pair of monitor grade headphones - and oh wow, the difference was noticeable to say the least - much punchier, crisper sound streaming Spotify (very noticeable on the track OHMSS by Propellerheads). I also tried it on my laptop using a usb/ usb-c adapter - interestingly Windows identified it as a 32bit 384KHz HD chip so looks like they definitely crammed some good stuff into the tiny package - however, the difference was less noticeable on the laptop, probably because it has a Realtek DAC already built in, so the differential is marginal in the latter case. Overall, as a tidy and cheap little upgrade to a standard smartphone DAC, I think it's legitimate - but as I found you'll need good quality wired headphones/ earbuds downstream of it to get the full benefit. I trust it goes without saying that it makes no difference to Bluetooth wireless earbuds as it is a wired headphone upgrade only. 4 stars as longevity remains to be seen.Update Dec 2021 - still going, although the USB-C plug seems to have worn somewhat. I was going to replace these with something perceived to be better - Helm Bolt - but when the latter arrived, performance was spotty and amplification boost, and indeed generally sonic performance, was not (imho) as good as I could get out of the Soditer - so back the Bolt has gone and I'll be getting another one of these in due course.Overall the Soditer is a great buy for the money.

Far exceeded my expectations!
I wouldn’t say I am an audiophile, but I do love music. For music I really want to listen to, I have an Audio Technica record deck paired with a NAD amplifier and DALI speakers. For commuting to work, I have a pair of Sennheiser Bluetooth noise cancelling headphones. For listening to music without disturbing others I have a set of Philips Fidelio High Definition headphones.I just bought a new Huawei P30 Pro smartphone and it follows the Apple trend of doing away with the 3.5mm headphone socket – and this of course is a bit problematic if I want to listen to high quality music. Bluetooth is convenient for commuting, but it really cannot compete with the audio quality of a wired set of headphones. Modern advanced audio codecs such as APTX help, but even they cannot reproduce the experience of a High Resolution FLAC recording played through a good set of wired headphones.I set out looking for some kind of adapter and found this one. I’ve never heard of this make, and didn’t even realise that this kind of adapter would need its own built in DAC – but the good reviews and a price that was quite a bit higher than the obviously cheap alternatives made me take the chance.I can always tell when I love a new audio product that I have just purchased as I disappear into a world of playing my FLAC collection, genre hoping, and basically fall into a musical trance for a couple of hours! That is exactly what happened when I went to try out this product.Connected to my Philips Fidelio HD headphones, FLACS just come to life! I was really very astonishingly surprised! Playing some of my favourite Hi Res FLACS from artists as diverse as Fleetwood Mac, London Grammar, Black Honey, Wolf Alice, Clean Bandit, Chvrches, Grimes, to name a just a few, this little adapter/DAC just coped with everything I threw at it with flying colours! The Philips Fidelio HD open-back headphones have an incredibly spacious sound with every instrument and vocal having space in the enormous sound stage, and this DAC gave them all the pinpoint accuracy that these headphones can make the most of.I should also point out that these come in a lovely metal box, complete with a travel pouch and the overall presentation is first class.A really top-quality product that by far exceed my expectations!

Sound quality is phenomenal, but...
In short: The sound quality from this thing is phenomenal. But not on my phone. The build quality was a major let down for me.The longer version: I purchased this as I had spent a bit more time than I should have done researching USB-C DACs. And as far as all of the reviews went on all the USB-C DACs (Side note: from this point on, I am going to shorten this to dongle) that were available from Amazon, this one shined the brightest to me. I even went as far as researching the chip. Which to my surprise is made by Realtek. Which is a company I know very well, and so will many of you out there. It's highly likely that the built-in audio chip on your laptop/computer was made by realtek. So it's a familiar, and reputable brand. That's definitely a plus point for me! So I purchased this 'dongle' thinking it would make a great companion for my Galaxy S9+ and my SERIOUSLY High-Res Sony Headphones.Upon recieving the dongle (the next day after ordering; Thank you Amazon Prime!) I was surprised to see how well packed, and presented the dongle was. It came in a tin, with suede effect foam holding it in place. Additionally a little carrying pouch which allowed me to put the dongle in my headphones case with out causing damage to my headphones or the dongle itself. Super! So like a kid at Christmas, I could not wait to get stuck right in... I plugged the dongle into my phone, and plugged my headphones into the dongle, and went straight for my FLAC player, and started listening to everything I had '.FLAC' wise. I even had a tamper with the equalisers and different sound effect options available; that includes the built-in Adapt sound setting. Initially I was impressed, but it all stopped there. I then unplugged the dongle from both my phone and headphones, and then plugged my headphones directly into my phone. To which I noticed a slight volume difference. But no difference in sound. I thought this couldn't be. I was stunned.Later on in the day, I decided to test the dongle on my laptop as that has a few USB-C ports. Now I'll say at this point, my laptops audio is tuned by Bang & Olufsen (a serious audio equipment manufacturer) and ironically its audio chip is Realtek. Maybe this will make for an interesting comparison? Oh boy, it did! After tinkering with my audio settings, I managed to send the sound through the dongle. Setting the playback quality to the max (Studio Quality, 32bit 384KHz) It's true, it really is that High Res! At this point I thought it'd only be fair to play the same FLAC files I initially had on my phone. And damn, wasn't I blown away. This thing is dope! I was seriously impressed by the sound quality from this thing. I would have happily kept this thing just for use with my laptop. But I didn't want it for that, I wanted it for my phone, for listening at work. But then back to the sound quality, it was crystal clear, with perfect amplification. So the next day came, and I had noticed that my Laptop at work also had USB-C ports, so I thought, actually I can make this work. I'll just load my FLACs onto my USB stick and listen to the music through that on my work laptop. With everything set up, I pulled my headphones out from my bag, and put them on my head ready to listen to my seriously high quality music. I retrieved the dongle from my headphones case to see that the casing had become very lose from jack side. Asking myself; did this seriously just fall apart in my hand? how much worse will this get? Now I'm not someone that is bothered too much by these things, but this was almost £30, and it's not even been 24 hours of ownership. So with great disappointment, I had returned the dongle for a refund. I'm just gutted that the sound quality this thing produced while plugged into my laptop(s), isn't the same when plugged in to my phone. It doesn't make sense. The chip shouldn't perform any differently regardless of which device it's plugged into, should it?Do I recommend this; absolutely yes. But I have a feeling it's only going to sound it's best whilst it's plugged into a computer rather than a phone. I may have been unlucky on the build quality front. But for me, under 24 hours of use and the casing coming apart, doesn't leave me with great confidence.(Sorry for any grammatical errors, I typed this entire review on my mobile device. It got a bit fiddly!)
